I don't understand how people can be so wrong these days? You want to fly a Bird of Prey of all things on your Starfleet Captain?? Let me guess, because the Federation sees alien species as prey to be hunted, right?
I have a nice, beaten to death suggestion - roll a KDF char. and enjoy Birds of Prey.
It's just lovely how one episode of canon can trump a whole franchise worth of canon. So Sisko used a JHAS for 1 episode and that episode >>>> all the other ones that he commanded a Defiant?
Also, Gul Dukat at the time being was a pirate and not a member of the Cardassian fleet. He was expelled because he revealed having a half-Bajoran daughter. So he can fly whatever the heck he wants to, just like Mudd or Cyrano Jones.
And Worf was a Starfleet Officer.
If Starfleet wanted their crews in Birds of Prey, they would make Birds of Prey. In STO you're not playing as a pirate or an outcast, you're playing as a member of Starfleet.
What you're looking for is a priate/civilian faction in STO and should start asking Cryptic for such a thing, instead of wanting to make a complete joke of the factions in STO.
First of all who the hell are you to tell me what I should ask?? I'll ask what i want, even if its a BoP for my fed captain! Why? Just cuz i like the design/look of it. And that "roll a KDF" its old. I just dont like the faction, simple as that, even if I did tried a kdf wich now is only used for doffing.
And so what many things only apeared in just 1 episode? Its a game in the end, INSPIRED by the Star Trek Universe. Many things (ships, races etc) that are in the game only apeared once in the show but devs still added them since they have to work with/from something.
And to the topic, everybody seems to forget that the war did begin with the undine infiltrators and all of that, but it continued and stayed in the prezent form just cuz the klingons decided to revert to the old ways, to the barbaric state of "Must fight, must do war" lol.
In the lore from the academy is mentioned this, that the president of the federation did send a peace offering wich klingons refuse for the above reason, not cuz of undine or ancient claims
Feds flying iconic KDF vessels?!!! Well the game just chased the money grab down the pisser.
It makes more canon sense for Feds to be flying captured KDF ships, and KDF to be flying captured Fed ships, then it does for either Faction to be flying D'kora, Timeships, etc.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
It makes more canon sense for Feds to be flying captured KDF ships, and KDF to be flying captured Fed ships, then it does for either Faction to be flying D'kora, Timeships, etc.
Actually it makes no sense what so ever for iether faction to be flying ships outside thier own iconics ones.
Alien ships, captured ships and the like have all been used only for special storylines and such within the IP. We've never seen iehter faction keep thier oppositions vessels as permanent additions to thier own armadas. It has always been temporary.
Its bad enough the Alien vessels abound in STO and exist as lockbox or Cstore money grabs but to go the unholy step.further and allow the feds to fly KDF vessels as a matter of fact or to allow Klingons to do likewise is a fracking joke that just makes the game that mch less appealing and a mckery of the IP.

Well, you and I just differ. Just as with the alien ships I can choose to ignore them if I'm not interested in flying them - just as I can choose to ignore 250 year old ships all over the place being at T5, and having T5.5 Fleet versions.
My immersion is based on my own perceptions of the game. Not what Cryptic needs to do to stay financially viable.

The Klingons see honor in victory, Starfleet is not prepared to do what must be done, hit the Klingons full force and occupy the Klingon homeworld, then peace can happen on federation terms.
Jm'pok is a loose cannon and a threat to the quadrant, remove him and have friendlier government installed.
It makes more canon sense for Feds to be flying captured KDF ships, and KDF to be flying captured Fed ships, then it does for either Faction to be flying D'kora, Timeships, etc.
Thats exactly what i was thinking man. And works to infiltrate behind enemy lines too.
Since i saw a few pages back a real life comparation, with the cold war but still.., i remembered actually this was used in 2nd World War, where sometims captured german and russian tanks where used by the oposite sides.
First of all who the hell are you to tell me what I should ask?? I'll ask what i want, even if its a BoP for my fed captain! Why? Just cuz i like the design/look of it. And that "roll a KDF" its old. Heh go ahead, ask for pink dragons to ride if you want to. That would make about sense as what you're asking. Some of us actually do care about the state of the game and the direction it going, shocking I know.
You have a mission as a Fed. where you get to fly a B'rel. There's your mission, INSPIRED by the one mission Kirk went on with a B'rel in the Trek universe.
Actually it makes no sense what so ever for iether faction to be flying ships outside thier own iconics ones.

QFT! It really feels like a joke having all the alien ships within the respectable fleets of Starfleet, the Klingon Defense Force and the new Republic now, something that would never happen in the IP.
But, Starfleet officers in B'rels and Warbirds, KDF Captains in Galaxy class ships, when there are perfectly fine Klingon and Romulan factions......lol yeah, you nailed it Roach, a mockery of the franchise.
They may just go an call the game Cryptic Starships Online, because that really would be the last unholy step of removing Star Trek from this game.
But, Starfleet officers in B'rels and Warbirds, KDF Captains in Galaxy class ships, when there are perfectly fine Klingon and Romulan factions......lol yeah, you nailed it Roach, a mockery of the franchise.
The game is already a mockery of the franchise. No one's here because STO is remotely canon. A Klingon flying a Defiant is no-more unrealistic then a Klingon flying a Korath, D'kora, or Jem Bug; and the same for Feds.
There should be 2 factions for pvp. What needs change is the way species are grouped.People should be allowed to play whatever race they want and pick their own faction.Lets say you are a gorn and you are not an idiot ...you can pick which side you want to fight ...they already did this with romulans.
as for "but there will be naked orion feds" ....well ,everyone wears whatever clothes they want .I see no reason why orions or gorns cant wear fed clothes or vice versa. This not only be more realistic but it would also make the entire problem the devs have when they block kdf using fed uniforms or feds wearing kdf uniforms. Same with ships.

I'm inclined to agree and think that ironically it would be MORE realistic for KDF to be flying captured Fed ships and vice versa than it would for them to be flying Galors, Timeships and Recluses.
You seem to be forgetting that this is just a generic space sim with Star Trek elements however which explains why we get these new alien ships and not anything that has ever appeared on screen in lockboxes nowadays.

They did that with the Romulans because it was the only way they could squeeze in the extra faction everyone was demanding into the existing game engine.
If you follow your idea to it's logical conclusion, you might as well not bother with factions at all.
The game is already a mockery of the franchise. No one's here because STO is remotely canon. A Klingon flying a Defiant is no-more unrealistic then a Klingon flying a Korath, D'kora, or Jem Bug; and the same for Feds.
It has been said many times before, but here it goes again for what it's worth: There is a certain limit to the immersion breaking.
I'm also not a fan on the whole "kick it while it's on the ground" approach.
They did that with the Romulans because it was the only way they could squeeze in the extra faction everyone was demanding into the existing game engine.

yet if you pay you can play a klingon as fed by buying that specie from c store. Also noticed that I said "PvP reasons".
Now now now.... I KNOW It sounds RIDICULOUS>.. But listen here.... how I think it will benefit the game:
PvE Queues Will Be Easier To Use, Being All Cross Factional
Teaming Is Not Restricted Faction Wise
PvP Still Is Available, It Would Be Friendly Simulations
Free Travel to All Systems In Other Faction's Territory
QUICK NOTES:
KDF And FED Will NOT Be Able TO Buy The Other Faction's Ships
ROM Has No Change In This
Faction-Specific Missions AREN'T Share-able, But The Opposing Faction Can Still JOIN Them On The Missions
Ill Think of more later... but what do YOU think?
PVE queues aren't cross factional already? IF that is so, how come I end up in PvE's with my fed aligned rom along site KDF in PvEs as it is?
It has been said many times before, but here it goes again for what it's worth: There is a certain limit to the immersion breaking.
That limit is different for each person - there is no 1 defined limit for everyone. For some people that limit was TOS Connies at launch in a 25th century game. For others it was a Jem Bug in a Lockbox. For you it might be KDF using Fed ships. So be it them. I'll miss you around here.
This and This and my Favorite were good use of the Klingons, making them the mustache twirling villain again is going backwards, not forwards, where all Trek should go.
^ This.
Personally, the relationship was far more interesting when the two factions were (often tense) allies. There is little interesting story to be had in a continuing generic space 'war'. A varying relationship is part of the deeper, interesting story that Star Trek is about.
I don't see it happening. Cryptic has made it clear that this is a Red vs Blue game. However...I do want cross faction PVE queues for everything. It's pretty ridiculous on the KDF side right now. Well, at least I have trouble over there. The only queues I get quickly are the ones that are already cross faction.
That limit is different for each person - there is no 1 defined limit for everyone. For some people that limit was TOS Connies at launch in a 25th century game. For others it was a Jem Bug in a Lockbox. For you it might be KDF using Fed ships. So be it them. I'll miss you around here.
Ofcourse, each indivudual has his/hers own limits as to what is game or immersion breaking, assuming that they have certain limit which would be game/immersion breaking for them.
For me, the reason I'm here is Star Trek first and foremost and I'd like to have that even in the itsy-bitsy little amount. If I can't have even that in a game called Star Trek Online, then to hell with it. We're still just discussing assumptions though, knowing that our devs. often say a lot, but that doesn't neccessarily have to happen. I'm still hoping reason will overwhealm greed.
The thing is - why do we have to jump from one thing to another that breaks people's will to play the game, instead of making stuff which unifies all the player's interests so we can keep the playerbase and expand further in a logical manner within the IP?
And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there like a huge player outcry regarding this same issue just couple of months ago? Didn't the devs. retcon their Romulan T5 idea due to that? Wasn't that an indicator as to what the playerbase wants?
It was 89 not to long after Ronald Reagan left office.
Wait a minute, you first said the fall of the Soviet Union was in 98/99. That was wrong. Several people told you as much and I reiterated it with EXACT dates. Now you're telling me the collapse was 2 years prior to when it was actually formalized?
Are you on crack? Seriously, where are you getting your false information from cause I'd really like to read this sight and get some more LOL moments from it.
Russia may not be your best friend but you do have trade relations with them. The only time they aren't your favour that of the western world is when miltary action is needed eg Syria. When it come to trade or space they sure aren't as of right now the US is dependant on them for getting to the ISS.
Irrelevant information. Good business and trade get thrown out the window if governments want to be at odds with each other or even hate one another. In 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union had a non-aggression treaty in and agreed to divide up Poland. And what happened 5yrs later?
The Chinese are our biggest trade partner, yet they intentionally devalue the Yen and militarily would be all too willing to test us if it came down to them enforcing their claim over Taiwan.
The Egyptian military was set to get F-16s and Abrams tanks from us, yet their deposed president had nothing but contempt for us.
I could go on, but the point is pretty clear - trade, small moments of mutual cooperation or temporary alliances don't matter if governments who are at odds with each other wish to remain in that state.
So much for having an open mind
Look in the mirror. You are totally close-minded to known and recorded HISTORY. If you can't even get KNOWN dates correct AND compound that with even more incorrect info, plus a disregard for aspects of human history which nullify your examples, then your credibility as a conveyor of information comes into question.
I dont agree with instigating a peace treaty, for the reasons already listed
However something I hope Cryptic will do, and apologies if anyone has already suggested this.
A persistant, moving front line. Create a new sector block in which FED & KDF fight for system control, both in space and on the ground. Make it a fleet level event (thats right 20 players on each side)
If you win both the space and ground fights you gain control of that system for 24 hours, and some kind of bonus. For example, if you capture a planet with high deuterium deposits the costs of making fleet warp cores is reduced for 24hrs for that faction.
I'm sure someone can word it better than this but I hope my point gets across. If anyone played the first Guild Wars, specifically Factions - That sort of idea!

to be honest the kind of PVP action BSGO has/HAD is what really STO PVP needs to get it going , give the PVPers a real WAR and a goal and PVP will flurish .
no more sitting in ques waiting for them to pop, you want to battle Fly to the warzone take the base, resources, or what ever from the other side , kick them out of your own yard . what ever . form alliances with other fleets on your side, form up and kick TRIBBLE .

Some are cross-faction, some aren't. The Fleetmark-only missions aren't cross-faction because they're based on a faction-specific starbase. Some of the other PvE queue missions aren't cross-faction.
