As previously stated, how the game controls on console is the big obstacle. Ground mode might work, but good lord, have fun trying to work out space combat and have it work as fluidly as keyboard and mouse.

Sorry but Sympathy doesn't work on the interwebz, you can try a duckface but those rarely work. Love how you go from angry and against to normal and neutral then you try to have people be sympathetic. I have a low opinion of console players because they are rather technical ignorant and often make hilarious comments about their "superior hardware" (last console war was hilarious, especially when the Wii technically won) when new consoles are in the wake of PC hardware, the difference is open/closed hardware profile and other things that ... well enough of that. Wii Won how? it had the worst graphics, crappy gameplay ect.
Developing a game for consoles means the input have to be controller and in STO that doesnt work, you might say they can make Mouse and Keyboard required but at that point I ask if want to drop $400 for a game then you can very well get a desktop PC for it, also how many MMO been successful on the consoles? You can easily hook a wireless/USB keyboard and mouse up to a PS3/4, every MMO on PS3 is successful so far, and its to benefit console gamers more
Other questions arise as well, certification, servers, subscriptions ... all this matters, to me this reeks of wanting to play all game in one machine and at this point I will point out its not a console that is good for that (in fact they are the worst due to exclusives, good luck with playing Halo in the PS4 or Uncharted in the XBox One) but the PC since multiplaform games go to the PC. Yeah because its not expensive to upgrade your pC every 2 years.
That leads me to ask ... are PC gamers elitists or rather they are fully aware of the advantages and disadvantages of consoles and know quite well that the PC offers the best advantages.
I mean before we had Plug-and-Play in the PS2 era, now ... install game, install patch, create account ... heck PC games are LESS complicated that console games these days ... just install and play, no "log-in", install game, check for patch online and all that. Sorry but any PC game with online requires you to have an online game account, Origin, Steam ect.

The rest is irrelevant, you really have no idea what is required to create a console game, I give you a small hint ... this would not be free, not only on the resources to create a port but also they would be REQUIRED to buy a Developers Kit and then there is licensing fees.
If PWE is already doing it for one game they can for others.

PC's and consoles are different things, why are they continually compared? Yes PC's have superior capabilities, more diverse gaming genres /styles and an active community with mods and server play and what-not.
Consoles are convenient and user friendly, no need to update hardware or deal with bugs, controls are simple and in the cases of the Wii (and perhaps the Kinect) more innovative, and games are more casual friendly (which could be deemed good or bad, and probably a debate on its own).
Now that's out of the way, back to the thread.
In the case of STO I would have to say no. I do agree that the controls would be a nightmare to map onto a standard console controller and I certainly agree that Cryptic/PW/whoever should focus on getting it working properly on this format before even attempting another.
This comes up way too often here, but perhaps for once Eve might have a solution.
Ground combat needs help, so like Eve and Dust, why not have a ground combat focused STO game for consoles? Imagine a re-skinned black light retribution with Star Trek assets, weapons, characters and locations. Then throw in some cool PC STO connectivity, perhaps one of your boffs can fight alongside you? Or another Boff can give you mission briefings from the bridge of your PC STO ship?
Meanwhile leave PC STO ground as is or strip it out completely, then have a space focused PC game and a ground focused Console game - each working off the strengths of the format they are on.
