So... it's been a while since I've seen the price of zen get this low. We're almost to the point that two rich dilithium claims would buy a lockbox key.
As far as I can remember, it was always at an average 100. Except when there is either a lot of dil in the market (CE event for example), or a release of something important on the Cstore (vesta ship, kumari).
The crash was some month ago, when it was at 70-80, which was very low. 150 as it was during CE event was very high, and I sold all my zen, to buy it back later.
As I have always said it needs to be locked at a fixed rate
I'm pretty sure half the market are speculators like myself. A fixed rate would deter many buying a selling. If the market rate was fixed the supply from both ends would suffer.
There was plenty of zen to be purchased in those days. I snagged 1k zen at 111. Which is fine for now (I wanted a romulan console so I just bought the zen). I am expecting the price to fall more. A lot of players now have at least on level 50 romulan and dil is wanted to fit the ships.
I know from my experience that my dil production went down while I concentrated on leveling. Now I'm going to pull in around 28k to 34k a day for zen store gear and ship equipment. Looking at this there's probably been a big drop in dil production and an increased use of dil sinks for most players. There's also a lot of returning players which will step up the demand for dil on the market, especially those that haven't played for a long time as they have a lot of new gear to buy.
The zen will probably drop for the next month and start to settle down. However, it's going to be a good time to trade on the dil exchange. There are trade profits (or losses) to be made.

There are 3 sides in this discussion. Those who want more dil for their zen, those that want more zen for their dil and sollvax who is always operating on a different tangent from the other two sides.
I think the dil exchange works well, so well that it functions unlike other f2p games. The exchange certainly pays for the game.
In a paid subscription game they'll sell you the expansion and then charge $15 per month. Via the exchange on this game they use my in-game activities to yield substantially more than a paid subscription game. They've even gotten money out of me for the starter pack and a one month subscription while I level my characters. On top of the zen I'm purchasing with dil.
Sollvax doesn't like that even though it pays for the server.
Its not really crashed yet. As the other said it got down to 85. Personally I saw it at 87. When I could log on. However I noticed it was under 120 over the weekend. Hovering around the 118-116 mark.
This is good news for me. Cause I will be coming back again to buy more. I bought 2 ships a costume, and other goodies off the last time it was low. I still need ships, and other stuff. So this is good news for me.

The reason the dilithium prices went up in the first place was because of a exploit in the foundry that was never supposed to be used which allowed people to get over 3 million dilithium in 2-3 days by chaining the foundry missions.
So people flooded the market which caused inflation. eg more dilithium on the market the less it's worth. Thankfully things are going back to normal.
Also prices are also going down now due to the repeat of starbase construction missions as well.

It also went up slightly due to Crystalline Entity dilithium entering the market, but it was a much smaller supply than the exploit dilithium.
Back when this was first implemented, in both STO and CO, the average was 150.
Sometimes a little higher, sometimes a little lower, but never far from that.
Now, the value of zen has plummetted to around 111 (last time I looked).
For people like me, who pay real world money to obtain a lot of zen for projects consuming massive amounts of Dilithium (not counting the gear requistion projects for Rep and the Starbase vendors), it's like being cheated.
I bought some small amounts a few days ago and I felt I was being cheated!
At a rough estimate, I was spending 2-3 times as much as I should.
It's actually getting to the point where I'm just not bothering to buy it, since the return on my dollar value investment is laughable.

So were you buying dilitium when it was down at 85 before LoR?
I couldnt give two poops less about the people who treat it like a stock exchange.. go to a real stock exchange to get your kicks.
I'm not going anywhere. If the dilithium exchange angers you there's no requirement to participate in it. If you need zen then buy it, if you need dil farm it.
Over the next month the rep system dil sinks are going to kick in a lot with all the new characters, and having 3 rep systems to work on. A lot of dil is going to be absorbed.
Even 90 is a better return than what Cryptic would give you. A Reputation respec token is 300 Zen or 20,000 dilithium.
Now if you divide one by the other you get 1 Zen = 67 Dilithium. I would hazard a guess as that is how much Cryptic would like Zen to be sold for in game.
Also if you feel cheated about a player driven economy then...lol. You need to anticipate market trends a bit more, done right you don't even have to grind dilithium or Zen, just be smart and keep up to date on what new features are coming.

Zen bought off the exchange should be lastingly bound to account

I'll be happy when it's back to low 80s.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

If one sentence could sum up this entire forum, here it is.
And you are wrong, as you have always been.

Yeah. I remember that... was lucky enough to buy it at that rate.
Now I am waiting for it to drop again around 90-100 to buy plenty more stuff.

I would not be upset if it was fixed at 150/1

A set 150/1 ratio sounds good. As long as it can always rise.

I have 8000 zen left - holding 5000 for the Scimitar 3 pack - the extra might go back to the market.
