The only way I can see JJverse stuff getting into the game is in a lockbox. But I wouldn't be opposed to it.
As for a general T5 Connie, I'm perfectly happy with that. But just one variant is all we need, and it should be slightly inferior to the 25th century designs.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
If it were somehow possible or allowed, my guess is that they would have introduced Fleet versions and Refits of the Miranda, Constitution and NX a long, long time ago. Any canon ship that could be made into an endgame-version is just too much money to pass up.
Amazing to see the unadulterated HATRED of the tier 5 Connie advocates. Well, gee sorry we want what we want! But, having said that--I'd be MORE than happy with the Exeter as a Tier 5 Fleet ship. And BTW, eventually if enough people complain or advocate it CAN and WILL happen! Those of you that don't agree, well, businesses that DON'T listen to thier customers eventually go out of business. Gaming is littered with MMORPGs that didn't listen to customers. My two pennies...
Though I have not said anything hurtful or mean to anyone, last tier 5 connie thread I posted in I was insulted or well he tried to insult me, by one of you *advocates* so don't go playing the martyr.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
I have to say that the "age" is not a valid argument against having a T5 constitution.
We already have a grand total of six Tier 5 22nd century starships.
The Andorian ship and its variants, the D'kyr, the T'varo warbird and the Somraw Raptor.
ALL of them are 22nd century ship designs that were first seen in "Enterprise" and thus much older than the Constitution.
And of contemporary ships to the Connie we have a T5 K'tinga, B'rel and Excelsior as well.
As far as I can see a precedent for a T5 constitution and even a T5 NX class ship has already been set.
And all of those examples are of Alien ships which have different histories and different aesthetics. Not every alien ship needs to be changed over the centuries. If a race finds a good ship design, then use it.
Humans are never satisfied with a design. We have to keep on changing the look of things or we are not happy. The alien ships from the 22nd Century have a more durable design compared to Starfleet vessels from the 22nd Century so they can make a Tier 5 version of 22nd Century alien ships while it is far more difficult if not impossible to make a Tier 5 version of 22nd Century Starfleet ships.
This T5 Connie thing is really getting to the stage where I think those for it, are a suffering a bit of OCD!!!
It has been stated REPEATEDLY that the decision is not Cryptics or PWE's, so why do you continue to flood the forums with it??? I doubt the devs even read these threads anymore!
I you want the God damn ship SOOOO bad, take it up with CBS, they are the ONLY ones who can give it to you:P
Actually. I think that this will happen some day. And those who so faithfully praise the so-and-so said NO response will be depressed for months. Time will tell.
(/\) Exploring Star Trek Online Since July 2008 (/\)
Here's a compromise, the JJ Abrams Enterprise is much larger than the original Constitution.
Create a Tier 5 Vessel in the size and style of the JJA one but with enough changes to not completely rip it off. It could even include variants that resemble the older styles of Constitution.
Say in its description that it is a new class which pays homage to the original without being just a mere refit/retrofit.
You could then call it something like the Constitution X Class, Constitution Legacy Cruiser or the Constitution Dreadnought.
Ugh, I don't think anything is uglier than the JJ-Trek ships... sorry but the proportions are just all out of whack...
I think a T5 retrofit Constitution class would make them a TRIBBLE-ton of money... it's inevitable one will come it's just a matter of when.
And for all the folks who say "it wouldn't make sense" with all the other "out of place" ships in the game... well let's just say that ship has already sailed.
The problem I have with all these refits and retrofits (being the most casual Trek fan of all of you, probably) is that every time you promote one of these low-tier ships up to T5 rank you demean/cheapen/reduce to irrelevance the ships that are already there.
If anybody can fly anything at top tier and fit all the latest whiz-bang tech to whatever they want, why even bother building new ship types at all? A Sovereign is and must always be better armed/armored than its predecessors, otherwise why did you sink all the time and effort into designing it?
This game handwaves the progression of technological development in the military away with references to 'new modular construction methods' or whatever, so sure, it's apparently viable to just build an old hull type and put all new internals and armaments on her. Evidently this makes those ships just as potent as the newest ships designed from the ground up to be better than those old ones.
This system removes the concept of obsolescence, which is the entire reason why we have the tier system in the first place. So just build a new version of an old ship and you're good to go - the guy sitting in the ship 200 years newer than yours has no advantages whatsoever. Again - why bother even designing new hulls? Develop all the internal stuff and with this line of reasoning you could have a fleet made entirely of wtfpwnface Constitutions and never really need to build anything else.
Aircraft design, tank design, warship design, it all improves in generations. The stuff that comes later so thoroughly outclasses what came before that you phase the old stuff out and move on.
FWIW battleships are also a completely obsolete weapons system (as has been correctly pointed out) as of the end of World War 2. The way you fight naval wars has changed completely and that's a big part of why old gear can't compete and gets scrapped. However in Trek we just line up in neat little rows and take turns firing at each other like we're in the Napoleonics so aside from 'it needs more phasers' I don't know what anybody's actually improving upon. Hell, Starfleet has no problem having Mirandas spearhead an attack on an overwhelmingly superior foe so I guess I should stop trying to bring real-world facts and logic into this.
Bottom line - Cryptic could either adhere to The Way Things Ought To Be or make a tidy profit by selling retrofits. They're a business, they want your money, so TRIBBLE it, make a T5 retrofit version of every ship that ever appeared on screen and make them all be exactly as powerful as one another, just with different skins. I'll take an Apollo Command Module with 10 consoles and 4 weapon slots fore and aft, please. Maybe then they'll have enough money for server upgrades.
Well as others have stated, what about a JJ Supersized Connie?
In JJ Trek the excuse for the bigger Enterprise is from Starfleet pooping their pants from scanning Nero's ship. They figured they had to go big or stay home. So they Galaxy sized it.
So if Starfeet can over react then, shouldnt they continue to beef up the fleet after releasing the Odyssey? Now is the time to use the Dedication Class Cryptic says they own and supersize it to a length longer than a Regent but shorter than an Odyssey. Id buy that ship. And it would be a great compromise for T5 Connie beggars.
In JJ Trek the excuse for the bigger Enterprise is from Starfleet pooping their pants from scanning Nero's ship. They figured they had to go big or stay home. So they Galaxy sized it.
The reconfigured ship was a larger vessel than previous manifestations -- approximately 1,200-feet-long compared to the 947-foot ship of the original series. Once we got the ship built and started putting it in environments it felt too small. The shuttle bay gave us a clear relative scale -- shuttles initially appeared much bigger than we had imagined -- so we bumped up the Enterprise scale, which gave her a grander feel and allowed us to include more detail."
Cryptic already made their "tribute" vessels to the Constitution / Refit.
Excalibur Class
Vesper Class
Exeter Class
All they need to do now is create Fleet T5 version of the T2 Cruiser, with these 3 (and only these 3) ship skins.
They have the Fleet T2 Escort and the Fleet T2 Science ship. Both of those vessels are 40+ years older than the Excalibur & Vesper, both of which (by Cryptic's own canon) were developed in the 2400s, while the Nova and Sabre were built in the 2370s.
This is what Cryptic needs to do, which would put the T5 Connie debate to rest. It would give players who enjoy the aesthetics of the Connie a reasonable modern alternative on par with the other Fleet retrofits of the same tier.
But as for a T5 Connie...no.
T5 Connie Refit...no.
T5 JJprise...no.
T5 JJprise Dreadnought...no.
100% agree with this, i love the Excalibur class so much i sometimes fly it on my lvl 50 eng admiral, mostly when im doing no combat missions or heading to mine dylithium and i would love to use it in combat again.

-To those who think CBS said no and that we should just give up: CBS also said cryptic canon is whatever people generally agree on, so these threads are very much worth it.
-To those who think we should not discuss this here but at the CBS website: there is no appropriate forum to discuss this on the CBS website, and that is part of the reason this forum exists. Even if CBS did have an appropriate forum, it would still be fine to post here because it's a STO subject and cryptics words will likely always carry more weight than ours, I and several others do send semi regular emails and tweets to people at CBS though, if it makes you feel any better.
-To those who think the ship is too old: this is rendered completely irrelevant by other ships like the T'varo, D7, and Dykr, no one is qualified enough in fictional non existant star trek rules to say that federation designs aren't just as upgradeable. If you have the book with definitive statements on why star fleet ships of a certain age can't be upgraded feel free to post it, otherwise you are just spouting nonsense.
-To those who are saying the in game Connie refit is already a retrofit: so is every other canon ship in the game if you pay attention to the interiors, exteriors, customizability, and STO lore.
-To those who think only the excalibur and connie refit variants should be retrofitted: thats absolutely ridiculous, the ships are 100% compatible and capable of the same things.
Tier 5 connie fans, don't apologize, don't act like this is an illogical desire, we have every right to ask for these two ships, keep the pressure on. Dollar signs can only be ignored for so long.
I was just making up an IN-universe excuse why they would make jumbo ships in the JJ timeline as opposed to the tiny ship Prime Kirk had.
Can I get a Dev response to the plausibility of super sizing the Dedication class ship for T5 use? CBS cant possibly balk at that can they? And Cryptic you love to sell ships.

Why does this conversation keep repeating?
The Constitution Class in no way should be a T5 ship, it is , by modern standards, a small, underpowered ship that may have earned its heavy cruiser title in its day, but now rates as little more than a frigate, even light cruiser is pushing it.
If it was completely stripped back and rebuilt from the framework up with modern systems, it would be a T3 at absolute best!!!
I fly an Excel retrofit, and love it....but to be completely honest, even she should not really be a T5 or fleet ship given her age, T4 is a more realistic level for her.
T5 and fleet ships should really be those of modern design only, I am even undecided weather the Galaxy would truely qualify, and if she did, it would be due to her size and having gone through a substantial refit.
With the release of loR this argument and the ship is to old is moot as the T'varo Light Warbird is a 22nd century ship

What part of "No Tier 5 Connie" do you people not understand? CBS said "NO". End of story.
One thing I'd like to see are the Wrath of Kahn uniforms having changeable ranks.
I have LONG since wanted a complete wrath of kahn set.
I think they should make a new lock box called "The Iconic Lock Box"
We need Wrath of Kahn phasers that shoot beams that resemble the movie pulses. And for it's #2 setting, it fires multiple small beams (like we see the targetting lasers on sniper rifles) but these beams create a small fire on what they hit. Sort of like a borg cutting beam but hand held version.
We also need old style wrath of kahn communicators that your toon flips open when beaming. -- Also, maybe an old style federation beaming effect.
Aside from the changeable Ranks on Wrath of Kahn uniforms, give us the away team jackets and the more casual starfleet uniforms we see in the first six movies!
There's SO many iconic elements to pull from, it could be very lucrative for Cryptic to create a lock box for it and put the items in the Lobi store.
I've been asking for this for a WHILE! lol. PS: It's sad we can't keep our constitution class in to the higher tiers, but it's great we get excelsior as well as ambassador class.
-To those who think CBS said no and that we should just give up: CBS also said cryptic canon is whatever people generally agree on, so these threads are very much worth it.

You make some GREAT points, I agree, I would very much like a refit Constitution class. It is iconic, and if we see MIRANDA class in DS9 Dominion war, then why not Constitution!?
This goes with my suggestion to create an Iconic Lock Box Series.
Wrath of Kahn hand phasers, that fire those pulse beams (I call them Oscilating beams.) Because they are not exactly pulse. The beams would look like those rapid fire mini gun except they would be more uniform instead of a spread.
Updated complete Uniform set from 23rd century. With away team jackets, and casual wear, including Kirk's admiral uniform with the clam shell belt from star trek 3 & 4
flip open communicator effect when beaming.
And for the grand prize: available in lobi store and the iconic lock box: A refit Constitution class star ship, with an authentic 23rd century style bridge and interior. As seen in Star trek 6 Undiscovered country, or the wrath of kahn style bridge.
The refit constitution would also fire oscilating phaser pulses which would have unique sound effects.
We have andorian ships with authentic andorian phasers. Why can't we see some Iconic graphics upgrades?
I just wish they got rid of the whole levelling system with starships and instead replaced the internals with something similar to Starfleet command 3, so you can use ANY ship at any level but skill wise would limit to the size of the warpcore, computer core , tractors phasers everything like that.
SO if people wanted to fly a Miranda at vice admiral they could but its kit would be top notch, likewise if you wanted to fly a galaxy straight from level 1 you could but its kit would be garbage.
it would also allow us to have ships which would be customised to our own play style. IF you want a big fat galaxy but install photon launchers down both side then so be it.
BUT I think the problem is the game wont alow it so we are sort of stuck with the system we have now so the fleet is made up of basically vice admiral ships and t5 cstore ships.
Soooo... is this where you're at the parking lot conviently labeled ESD.
A Hummer pulls up next to some guy in front of his car, furiously cranking on a crank to try and get his car started?
Because if they put a T5 connie in, ever, it'd make as much sense as that guy in the modern days trying to crank start his car for general everyday use.
If you don't mind flying Tier 2, you have everything you need to make a really pretty modern Constitution-type. I'm moving on to higher-rated ships, but, I'm extremely pleased with the look of my Exeter/Vesper mix-up.
Soooo... is this where you're at the parking lot conviently labeled ESD.

or...
A 2013 Mustang is the same car that Steve McQueen drove in "Bullett"
The newer versions are simply inspired by the classics and fill the same rolls that their ancestors did.
The STO Constitution-types have their role in Starfleet as smaller, affordable, starships that can accomplish many missions with a classic look. They can be upgraded with higher tier equipment to your heart's content, you are only limited to the number of equipment slots. And, they should have less slots than, say, the Sovereign Class because they are so much smaller. Just raid your higher tier ships for equipment to put on Old Connie and you have yourself a nice sleeper. Problem solved.
You people do realize that you can use the T2 Exeter at end game for about 95% of the content, even STFs? Just have to build it right and you can have your end game Connie.
Okay one most of the older ships are zen vessel, people paid money for them and also most of them our other races and could be part of militia's. As for T'Varo, that is story driven. the colony was independet so the guy bought an old decomissoned T'varo and you take it over during a emergency. aslo neither the KDf or the Rommies as inventive as the Fed. They have if it ain't broke don't fix it mentaility. that's why the B'rel and K'Tinga are still around they have been given the Lakota like treatment. Starfleet is constantly experimenting with ideas. Also for T'varo the RSE is in astate of flux and still recovering from hobus. the whole hobus incident if done to Earth i could see the connie reactivated as a placehoulder till more modern ships can be built. Connie's problem is Excel can do EVERYTHING she can do and there are more of them than connies.

The STO Constitution-types have their role in Starfleet as smaller, affordable, starships that can accomplish many missions with a classic look.
