I click on the icons to launch the STO launcher, but it does not apepar on the screen. It does show it on the taskbar and quick launch, but the screen that shows to log in does not appear. I right click what appears on the taskbar and it just says move, minimize and close. I tried to minimize and then restore, but it still does not appear. Any assistance would be appreciated

Same problem here. Was working fine last night, now it's not.

I re-installed the game and then right clicked the icon and clicked Run As and just ran it as the same user (owner) I already was and it seems to be working. You might try that. Or you might try running it as Administrator

Have you checked the giant red notice text displayed on every page of this forum saying:
    >> Having trouble with the launcher not displaying even though it is open on the task bar? Click here. <<

When I try to start the game it shows up on my start bar, but no where is the launcher or log in area. I have restarted the computer, but no go. It was working earlier today.

Hello, my launcher stopped working a few days ago. After some messing around I managed to get into the game by going through the game client in the program's folder instead of the desktop icon, which allowed me to bypass the launcher entirely. Today though, it says once I try to log into the game that I have a "version mismatch" (which I assume is because there's a new patch I can't get thanks to a lack of a launcher).

When I click the desktop icon to boot up the launcher, the task bar shows a "star trek online" tab and it appears as running, but the launcher simply doesn't show up. No error messages, no crash reports, nothing. It's just not there, even though the tab for it is.

...I'd really like to get back to playing this game and continuing my foundry creation, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Scott248 is right. I have been having the same problem. I did what he said, danced around with the arrow keys, then moved the mouse. Brought the launcher back. But be sure to use the arrow keys first, or you won't bring it back.

I had this same problem. Doing what you said fixed it.

    Thank you!

For anybody else still having a problem.

I just had this same problem, but the work-around didn't fix it.

Investigation showed that the start position info was severely corrupted (after the last crash possibly).

Edited The Cryptic Launcher start position with registry editor (XP configuration cited here)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cryptic\Cryptic Launcher\WindowPos (Blank this entry out)

This resets the launcher when you run it again.

i thought this was going to be the solution to my problem, but unfortunately it's not. my launcher isnt missing, it shows up in the normal place, but it's just white, and says loading please wait. it never loads. it's been doing this for at least a month, and the only solution i've found is restarting my computer. tried the minimize thing, but it's still blank. restarting my pc every time i want to play is super annoying.

Everything has been going fine this week until I tried playing today. I go to start the client from my desktop ( as admin and then not as admin ) like I usually do and the client will not open up. I simply see the icon on the desktop tray and in processes but nothing happens. I've rebooted and still nothing. I'm wondering why the client is suddenly not working hours after I just played with no problems

Thanks for this fix. Weird error but worked when I *Right* clicked the icon and used the arrow keys a bit. It should be noted that the arrow keys didn't actually move the window but I guess when you use the arrow keys first it makes sure you have the correct window selected. Then I moved my mouse and the launcher was attached to it. Thanks again

Nevermind. I found the solution on another post but I will list it here in case it might help someone else from going nuts trying to fix it. NO need to uninstall or use a different icon if it's the same silly issue I and many others had. For some reason the launcher window was placed off screen so, the entire time it's there but you can't see it. Simply double click your launcher like usual and when you see the icon on your taskbar, right click it until you can select the "move" option. At this point before moving the mouse, use the arrow keys a bit. This may not actually move the window but just make sure you select a few of the arrow keys. Then take your mouse and move it. You launcher window should now be attached to it and you can place it on your desktop as usual. This may not work for everyone if the underlying issue is different. But it worked for me. Good luck, Captains!

For the past month I have been having the issue of not showing on my screen. THANK YOU! I have had several e-mails back and forth between me and Perfectworld, and they never even thought of this issue... I'M SO HAPPY! :)
Note: In Windows 7, you need to SHIFT right-click to get the move command, that it why for so long I could not get it to show.

I tried everything on this thread... seriously!

    Bran Flakes "Work arround"
    Regedit modifications and etc...

My Laucher shows on the desktop but the window cut most of the launcher and I cant click on the "Engage" button, because it's now showing on the launcher's window.

I'm running the Windows 8.1 and the STO is the only game that showed issues.

oh wow I thought I had done something the royally TRIBBLE up the launcher, I had to recently update the .NET framework (unrelated to STO) & that is when I started to get this launch window problem, I even did a complete reinstall of the game with no luck.....do you know how long it takes to reinstall 10 GIG??????????

There are other issues that occurred at the same time, some LOOT will not pick up when the action tab is pressed, no matter how many times it's pressed, I'm afraid of losing the box containing Nakura, Rom & Fleet Marks, AUTO LOOTING no longer works, if you enable it through the log on screen Options Menu > Basic Tab it just disables it as soon as you close that tab, can no longer alter ANY Advanced Video Settings

those I think are the main ones.

for looting just keep pressing "F"

I've had a rather odd issue occur.

Today I installed Chrome as a secondary browser on my machine. I generally use Firefox as my browser of choice (and have it set as my browser default).

After Installing Chrome, I am now trying to launch STO. While the Launcher exe is showing up in Task Manger, the Launcher Window is not.

I am running a Win XP SP3 OS.
Is there something a miss here?

EDIT: Before posting, I did redownload the launcher and ran it. It did update the launcher, as far as I can tell. but the window will still not come up...

EDIT #2: Did not notice Brandon's notice here. That works, for now...

    Thank you for the time...

I thought it was just me! I'm also running XP, but using IE as browser. I've been running the game off a flash drive just fine up until this past weekend when the launcher window decided not to display. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, and downloaded the game right from the website all with the same result. The STO launcher exe comes up in the task bar, but it won't display on the screen. Can anyone help??

    It just worked for me.

    1. Start STO
    2. start Task manager
    3. Applications tab
    4. Right click on Star trek online and press Minimize
    5. Right click again and press Maximize
(Now launcher is there but Maximized over everything)
    6. Escape to close launcher
    7. Start STO and there is your launcher again, visible and in normal size.

here is more or less permanent workaround if you didnt alrdy fix this issue, or if somebody didnt alrdy tell about this.

    1. right click your shortcut
    2. find option where you can choose if you wish to open the game minimized, maximized or on normal size
    3. set to maximized
    4. success, now you are able to play but your launcher will look "funny"

you arnt kidding that the launcher looks funny that way, but at least it works. ty for the post

    Hello!

    I solved my problem.

I have a Dell Notebook, Inspiron 15R Special Edition, it comes with a 15.4" Screen with 1920x1080 resolution, so I raised to 125% my font proportions... you know, I work as a IT Manager, my vision is not that good anymore.

I just changed it back to 100% and problem solved.

The problem only happen on Windows 8.1(Download from Microsoft website).
