Considering Crytic has done this game's equivalent of "We've been treating you pretty well lately, so you can just continue to enjoy Cataclysm." for the KDF several times now I'm not sure what your point is...at all...
My point was obviously that it's not unreasonable to expect a game developer with a multi-faction MMO to provide content for its entire playerbase, without resorting to "You should make a new character".
This doesn't mean I think the KDF has enough content, or that I think it was fair for Cryptic to ignore KDF, which you seem to assume.
Cryptic overhyped and undersold the KDF at launch, and this significantly ham-stringed their development post-launch, as far as how many players stuck with it, and how much content/ships they got. I like seeing that finally being rectified.
But Cryptic's playerbase is still primarily Federation, and providing nothing for those players in what they're calling an Expansion is a legitimate concern. When LoR goes live, what Federation players are going to see are Warp Cores, a new Reputation, and eventually new Romulan players joining them in the same STFs we've been playing for years now.
How anyone can excuse that as "Federation has enough" is beyond me. Even without raising the level cap, it's long past time the game got some new STFs that were tied into some legitimately beneficial rewards the same way Omega Force and the Borg STFs are.
To put it simply, I personally am not asking what exclusive Federation content we're getting... I'm asking what's going to be new for Federation players. Ultimately, the answer seems to be "not very much at all".
The Fed players have had an all you can eat buffet for 3 years; and the OP wants to know what is in it for the Feds?
Un-Freaking-believable............
An all you can eat buffet for 3 years is how you'd describe this games development cycle?
I'm going to guess you weren't here for the dark days leading up to the Atari sale to Perfect World. If you were, you wouldn't do something so outrageously laughable as liken the development of ANY part of this game to an "all you can eat buffet."

wasnt here during tha atari ages but i have heard those were the dark ages for STO
In LoR Feds will receive a valuable lession in modesty. Enjoy.
I dunno... I kinda expect things to go back to normal after the LoR release schedules are finished, except now it'll be KDF and Rom players complaining about a lack of focus on their faction. On the up side, we won't hear any more complaints about not being a full levelling faction from the KDF.
Alternatively Cryptic could believe its own hype and keep pushing the Roms, alienating its current playerbase that want content to play in with all the shinies they've bought.
Well put. And I, as a primarily fed player, like it too. About time the KDF got something that the Feddies didnt. And the introduction of the new faction is pretty cool too.

Keep in mind that the KDF playerbase has been using the same reasoning since the begining and it almost always ended in "the feds are the majority and a such need to be catered too...." defense. Such reasoning on why the feds need something this time may not hold as much validity as you think.
Sure STO needs new content. I think a KDF themed set of STFs would be awesome but the May expansion is about bringing the Romulans into STO and righting an imbalance of the KDF.
This one time the game does not rotate around the feds in an update. It'll be alright, as the Devs will revisit them sooner than they think I imagine.
imho there is ENOUGH content for any NEW Federation players and the update makes sure there is enough also for new Romulan and KDF players.
as simple as that.
for OLD Fed players, there are some new perks, traits, reputation and warp cores, and a couple of NEW Romulan themed missions to play through when teaming with the new Romulan players.
for old KDF players, the same, plus some 5-8 new story missions to play through.
for Romulan fans it is a dream come true with long grinds to master ahead.
other then the romulan faction and UI redone and Klingon receiving content. is there anything for the federation players?
Possibly a lessening of the KDF complaint on the lack of PvE content. A whine many feds have complained about and wished to see go away.
Are you thinking an expansion without fed content is too high a price to pay?
So aside from a few people saying new warp cores and a bunch of angry people that didn't even read the Questions in the first post, What is the benefit for either side in letting the romulans join? Will there be any cool starbase features? will either faction get some cool romulan tech with out having to buy it from the Rep system? Romulans are clearly getting the better end of this deal and the point of this thread was supposed to be about learning what every one else was getting from the romulans.

what does the Klingon empire or he United Federation of Planets get my allying themselves with D'tan and the repulbic?
Access to any technology he has to offer as well as allys against the tal'shiar.
What to FED and KDF players gain from allowing allied romulan captaions into their fleets?
The same things they get from recruiting any other player, Plus some one with a nifty starship with abilitys that they dont have access to, that will fight by their side against the tyranny of the grind stone.

Well it looks like Fed players will be getting a number of exclusive items:
1) An in-game name to strike fear in their opponents, "Tearsome";
2) A model Ferengi Lock Box for their desk, to hold their tissues;
3) An Impulse Weeper Repeater Rifle; and
4) A Lacrimal Diffusion Cannon for their ship.
Seriously though I'm sure Cryptic has more on their roadmap for Fed players in the future. No doubt the Devs have many things they would like to add, but are constrained by manpower and other priorities which they have no control over.
The Federation is fine. I have a max toon in the KDF, and a max toon in the Federation. I have also leveled the KDF toon when the KDF had pretty much zero episode content for leveling. It was a pain in the butt. The romulan faction will not be complete at launch. To be honest I think the devs are setting themselves up for a failure. By failure I mean the Romulan faction being too reliant on the Federation and Klingon Empire. Although I got the impression that may be a temporary thing for story purposes. The KDF may be getting its leveling experience completed but has many more areas that need work.
Also for the record I mostly play my starfleet toon. The Federation has many ships now, and has had its leveling experience complete for some time now. Also nearly all episode content is geared to the Starfleet point of view. What does need worked on, in my opinion, is what now follows. First I think all cruisers should have the bulk of there firepower moved to the front of the ship, while maintaining the broadside dps. Reason to add the more star trek cruiser feel to the game. Two the Interiors for both KDF and Starfleet need a drastic overhaul. Also thirdly I believe the idea of raising the level cap needs to be discarded as a bad idea. I believe the game needs more stfs and episodes not a level grind, that is going throw everything out of wack. By out of wack I mean tier ships, c store ships, reputation, and gear. This would tie up allot of development time for little reward. Lastly as we all know pvp needs work, again by work I am saying overall, but I would NOT be in favor of any pvp stats. As I have pvped in mmos for along time, pvp stats never end well. All they do is split your player base in two by force.
So all and all, by my point of view the Feds do not need to get anything. There is plenty of other things, that I think need looked at in the game.

I really didn't like hearing that the faction isn't really a faction as much as it is just a "Deluxe" or "Enhanced" playable race but for what it is, it works. They really shouldn't refer to it as an expansion though as much as "well over due content". I just thought it was odd that the KDF and the UFP would be so eager to help these guys with so much when all they were getting was a store that is the romulan rep system... which is going to be awkward to do with a Romulan.
No doubt the Devs have many things they would like to add, but are constrained by manpower and other priorities which they have no control over.
This one made me think more towards the negative. Just look at the sorry state of Champions online. The current and last "Mega Events" were really bad (minus the final mission of the last one) and could have easily been created in the foundry in a few minutes. The Event before that was so broken it turned max level character to level 1 and frankly it all seems to be based around how little of a team they have, if any.
Cryptic is known for three things:
1) customization
2) lying/false truths
3) releasing unfinished and leaving it unfinished
The less Devs there are on a team the more these things happen and in Champions online it's running rampant with bugs, imbalance, the only new things are reskins or lockboxes, and i worry that this is what's going to happen to a lesser degree (due to it being a licensed IP) with STO. I really wasn't impressed just yet with NW so with that being free to play from the start i really don't see it over taking STO in the long run, but poor poor CO is still just there unloved and untouched even though it's one of the only two super hero mmo's out there that isn't going to be a MOBA. If the company is still asking for money on a game, then that company should still be accountable for it to the players.
But that's a rant for a different time.
Back to the topic at hand though, i honestly don't mind the feds not getting any thing in terms of how most people on the thread have been arguing about, i just wasn't sure if anything new was being added to the other factions that wasn't a rep store buy. When more that one person commented on the warp core, i wasn't sure if they just meant the new Singularity core which i'm sure is Romship only or if they were adding a new style engine in general to show the two techs being merged.
A while ago the teased new KDF stuff with a fed feel in the design, i think it was a few ships but nothing ever came of it, I suppose i was hoping for something along those lines. Maybe new costume pieces for ships with a Romulan flair to them? Hitting a max level Romulan possibly unlocking something cool for my other captain would have been interesting. All we're really getting is a little bit of story, a new class of ship, and not much else.
