Benzites are Federation citizens and Fed side playable in STO, so obviously not them.
Trill is a member of the Federation, but they made joined trill playable for the KDF. The Benzites would make a fine addition to the playable options for the RSE.
I kinda hope they do make something up. Romulan, Reman and maybe Alien gives me the three toons I'd make, but... no variety. Canon is nice and all but we shouldn't so obsessively cling to hard canon, it's limiting.
please Cryptic don't ruin Romulan faction as KDF & UFP with alien ships or species
Romulan Star Empire must to be pure Romulan
LoR should to be about rebuilding Romulan Star Empire, liberating Donatra from borg collective ,confronting Sela & madness of Tal Shiar, claiming Vulcan as new romulan homeworld...
Which aren't playable.
But in any case like I said, Aenar wouln't be any more ridiculous than KDF Joined Trills.
Problem with the Joined Trill was one of fineprint in the contract.
I would have preferred something else, like Augmented Klingons with identical stats, as well.
My guess is that's the reason they can't avoid the Joined Trill for the Romulans.
One thing I want to know is if the starbase issue... Because most of the playerbase plays fed side if they are going to allow KDF and Romulan Starbases to cost less because of this issue of low population factions.

Instead of Fleet Starbases, why not make a community Starbase? Have the Romulan players actually build their home starbase. Then when complete, it opens a whole new opportunity for them.

That would be ideal, but considering we will be playing as the 'Romulan Republic' instead of Sela's RSE, and we will be "rise(ing) up against an oppressive regime and demand(ing) freedom". It looks like we wil lbe stuck with something like FED light, and will likely get stuck with a whole slew of unnecessary species options.
Good choice! The letheans and nausicaans are mercenaries for the klingon defense force.
So it wouldn't be exactly improbable for some mercenaries to be allowed in the republic.
Liberated Borg - Both the KDF and FED were given this payment option.
Hirogen - Allies of romulans in exchange for hunting grounds.
Pretty much this, and I suppose an 'alien' option. The thing with the Romulans is that they follow the Way of D'era which essentially teaches them that they are superior to everyone else.
Aside from those species already mentioned, if you follow canon, it just wouldn't make much sense for a wide variety of alien species to be part of this new Romulan Republic so soon. They aren't going to suddenly decide one day.. oh let's allow some Caitians.. or Trill in our society.. let's just disregard centuries of how are people are.. everyone will accept it! It just wouldn't happen.
Now with that being said.. this is a game.. and unfortunately gameplay will trump everything else as Cryptic has already shown. I still don't think that there should be joined Trill though. It should be something else.. although I'm not really sure what exactly. I'm pretty sure the Yridians are going to end up in the Romulan Republic.. they've been mentioned several times a long time ago by the devs.. I could be wrong though. What about the Mintakans? They share ancestral roots with them. I just don't think any Federation races should be part of this Romulan faction except maybe Vulcans. Otherwise the Romulans just become too much like the Federation except with a different skin. And please.. no cat people. It should have stopped with just the Caitians. -_-
See previous comments relating to the word "ever". Unless you're arguing that Aenar now also predict the future and could tell for 100% certainty that none of their people would ever be taken against their will for the next three and a half centuries?
I'm sorry, how large is the Aenar population? Unless it's less than 50, then how would they know? Did they take a census? Do you know how many people where you live could be abducted without you knowing?
Aenar population on Andoria in the ENT era was estimated to be in the range of several thousand.

Ohh! But considering that everyone forgets the Romulan Star Empire has subject species (even though they're not displayed on screen- the remans being the exception to that) and that those subject species would no doubt join the romulan republic against their former masters- I would have thought the way of d'era has been spitted on in favour of allies, to which they share in favourable aims/goals.

Now then, would the Yridians be considered a potential playable species for the Romulan Republic? They were thought to have gone extinct during the 2360s, but could that be modified to have been due to the Romulan Star Empire's conquering of the Yridian homeworld? The faction and the species appear in some episodes together, if I'm correct. They also appear very similar in stereotypical behaviour.

Thats actually an excellent idea. The same thing should have been done with the KDF with the different Great Houses like Martok, J'mpok, Kriton, Duras, etc. The fleshing out with that would be good for PvP House Battles.
Anticans are actually part of the federation but they definately would have to be some kind of CBS approval to get them on the KDF side too. Which I do play KDF a lot and welcome new races to add to my collection on the KDF but I don't think much effort would be put into getting new into the KDF as history asas dictated with Cryptic and PWE.
*thinks back to the races he liked to recruit in Star Trek: Birth of The Federation*
Caldonians
Ktarians
Yridians
Ullians
and what the hell, Nausicaan mercenaries.
We actually have Nausicaan Mercenaries besides Klingons they are very fun to play on the KDF side. Although on the stage of where the Federation and the KDF are in this future point from TNG/DS9/Voyager era the ways of the Klingon and Mercenary/Pirates of the Alpha and Beta quadrants would most likely have to look at places to annex outside of their domain in a sense that most of the Alpha and Beta quadrants would most likely soon realizing the efforts being made in a war have been influenced outside of perspective empires and to rebuild from assets lost fighting each other the delta and gamma quadrants would or should be able to be in the game to annex/or join the federation.
DS9 post Dominion war gave a great deal of content for building this game up on the gamma quadrant. Voyager on the other hand pretty much gave enough exploitable content to last this game a lot longer than the series lasted and then some. I could definately enjoy it if the Federation and KDF had territorial wars against the Krennim, Kazon, and all those other ppl who had run ins with voyager that need a good beating
I will admit I love all the Klingon lore from all the series as well as most of the Federation stuff too but this game won't give that feeling that it got out of dominion war on DS9 until the band is back together again but in a different form, just this time I would hope the romulans put away their treachery to make it more awesome
have any of you have read Star Trek: Voyager The Eternal Tide or Children of the Storm . if any of you have they will tell you that the Borg were assimilated by the Caeliar but some Borg were not in the delta quadrant where the home planet of the Borg is.

those events are not part of the STO timeline
STO builds it backstory of some of the Startrek EU, but for the most part ignores the MAJOR plot developments from them
I.E. We still have DS9(Terok Nor), and Empok Nor still has its power plant ; and the "Liberated Borg" are not from Hugh's Faction they are just 7of9, Icheb
and Picard style rescues
The Romulan Republic is probably going to remain only Romulan/Reman playable species, or at least I hope so. After all if they're sticking with the Rome connection the only people allowed to command or represent the Roman Republic were Romans.
Like the Romulan Alliance System? Of course you do, it sounds fine to you because you aren't Romulans, you're FED or KDF who are going to make a Romulan alt, it makes a HUGE difference in perspective.
I think "Alien" and "Liberated Borg" are the only sure bets, though many of the arguments I've seen for Vulcans also make sense.
One race that hasn't been mentioned yet, but I can see as a possibility considering this faction will be the Romulan Republic and not Star Empire, are the Dewans. Perhaps D'Tan and the other inhabitants of New Romulus are so intrigued with the ruins and the history there that they go on a crusade to find the remaining Dewans.

(IIRC) The definiton of Roman was a bit fluid.... IE you didn't have to be born Roman.
Anyways... yeah there's a LOT of possibilities. I'm hoping for at least 6 playable races, well, 9 if you toss in Lib Borg, Joined Trill, and Aliens.

But Vulcans first. They did work to unify.

That option has already been thrown out the window with playable remans.

We're getting the Romulan Republic.

So having a Vulcan option fits. It'd be the Romulan side version of the Fed-Klingon and KDF-Joined Trill.
