"Dstahl: Good question. Our license with CBS is restricted to the TV Shows, the movies (up to Nemesis), the Animated Series, and some of the book fiction. Unfortunately, this license doesn?t extend to other video games. However, if those ships or factions appeared in any of the previously mentioned properties, then it is fair game."

Would cryptic be willing to acquire the licence if the STO community wanted some of these game ships? Maybe via Kickstarter??

How come we can't go through the DS9 wormhole?
That'll likely come at a later date when we've got a Dominion Social Zone / Story Focus to look forward too. They're probably more focused toward filling up the Alpha and Beta Quadrants for the moment.
When will we get to play as the Romulans?
I suspect Season 10 at the earliest. Season 8 and 9 are suppose to be big, and are suppose to include KDF content. They're then going to need to allow themselves time to work on a Romulan faction, thus I'd call it in at Season 10, if by then.
Be nice if we could restructure the rank system where end-game is Captain and save Admiral for unique cases like Fleet Leaders.
This would make the most sense from a cannon/lore point of view. It is the Captains that fly the ship, not a Universe full of Admirals. :P

In a Perfect World (not PWE) you'd have your Captain (your main character) that would command your ship, and be the one you use when in all social zones. Ground Missions should have allowed for a First Officer Selection (someone you promote to such status the second you get your first ship). Captain's shouldn't be running around on planets with hostile aliens everywhere. The Captain goes down with the ship, not the away team. ;)

One could argue that the rumored K'vort isn't a new ship. ;)

Will / Can there be a way to change the species that we are? When I first joined STO I opted for human than later on you released playable Caitian faction in the c-store. I would love to be a Caitian but I don't want to start again from scratch to do it.

We should get a re trait token for our passive, but a re species no I agree just re roll one.

    Sure.

I mean it's not like Cryptic radically altered the way all the passives, including species specific ones, worked when they redid all the skills, and gave people zero ways to deal with said changes.

It isn't all about changing your mind, especially with re-species. Some players make aliens that are supposed to be certain species. If those species are introduced in the future, it only makes sense that players be able to turn their character into a 'real' Denebolan, Romulan, Cardassian, etc.

I remember I had a 'tellarite' Boff not long after launch. When actual tellarite boffs were introduced, all I had to do was train the same skills. But with actual characters, we need something more powerful.

Honestly Easier to get gear, 1000 omega marks 10 processors, 32 k dilithium and other stuff for each piece. Unless you have been stockpiling everything through out the leveling process dont see how this is considered easy considering all that is needed for each piece.

PWE changed things because people didnt like the idea of chance to get the gear because too many people whined about it so they did the rep system which is fine but if you are gonna classify something as easy...make it easy. Even from a elite STF you only collect 75 at most...even if you do them all on elite that is only couple hundred per cooldown and most people dont have that kind of time to sit and run all those stf's and if you do well....

Enough ranting for now...looking forward to more changes and see what gets broke next and not fixed :)

opening up matt jefferies tos designed fleet could for used by cilvians merchent fleet to operarate tier 3 or 4 constitution class and other matt jefferies class without over powering tier 5 and 5+ ships. something like 6 weapons and have cilvilian boff's. halls of 2500 to 3600 hall points.

with earth and starfleet so busy fighting the war so the cilvians merchents were left more or less on their own for defences, defending their freighter with minial weapons felt the need for more defencive fire power. the cilvians noticed that star fleet was not using most of the early tos and and early earth starfleet ships were not being reactivated or refitted for war efforts. some of the cilvians like decendents of harry mudd and knan and left over marquies with the help of dishinered starfleet officers captain benjiman maxwell and liutantent thomas riker felt the need to secretly steal old starfleet starships but leave the musium peices alone. took them be retrofited at viradian 3 serete ship yards.

the cilvians star refiting ships that starfleet were already working on building replicas first to get ship ready and not to raise any trouble. the more and more of the tos and nx fleet were retrofitted. only thing was the cilvians wanted to have more fire power the the starfleet versons to the old ships but they had to settle with tier 3 or 4 with linited resorces and not to overpower starfleets tier 5 and 5+. benajiman maxwell and thomas had their own plan for their flag ship rebuilt the enterpise d saucersection. refit a stolen nebula strdrive section with super tactial/science pod. with new orleansclass 3 torpedeo pod. the flag ship would rival most starfleet starships. most of the cilvian merchents were perfectly happy helping out the war efford with their newly refited starships and freighters. it was captian maxwell and now mercent commender thomas riker and the knan decendents that took the enterprise cilvian. or simply enterprise

I was interested in greater ship gear options. As it stands we have shields, deflector and engines. At some point can we get tractors on all ships, but have the sci BO ability provide special enhancements to it if desired. In the Star Trek Universe I thought tractor beams were as standard as car stereos.

Also could "sensor scanning" speed up for Science ships. In Azure nebula my escort scans at the same speed as my Science ship, in many missions the escort has the dps advantage and it would make for some very interesting game play if each type of ship had a scan speed in relation to the science skills and some ship class buffs.

Another question I had: in order to scale the fleet star base projects for different size fleets why not make all the projects cheap, cheap, cheap; but make provisions very expensive. That way the big fleet can rush through the tiers, get its 5 done. The small fleet can make good progress through the tiers, but the equalizer would be in provisions. If the big fleet wants all the people to benefit from it then they have to shell out big bucks for provisions. The small fleet has equally expensive provisions, but don't need as many. That way there is no scaling by fleet size, but instead demand. My personal thought is who cares if a fleet gets T5 in a couple months, they can't build ships or buy gear without all the provisions, that is where they put in their resources (not to mention their members wouldn't have the necessary fleet credits to afford fleet gear).

Finally provisions themselves. Can they be inventory items or traded currency that can be handed out by fleet command to their captains? It is a pain to get access provisions because they are not manageable without bring a person into a "provision rank." My fleet leadership does a good job, but it would be nice to get the provisions each month without having to actually make my purchases.

Great idea, but no need to make this a criminal action, Star Fleet gives the plans to the Merchant Marine and they produce the ships of the early centuries of the Federation.

Adding a civilian sub faction could be huge in reputation systems and crafting (no starfleet grade weapons can be used on trader ships). Imagine a PvP of protect the transport through a nebula. Great suggestion

Q: (keeny75) Will / Can there be a way to change the species that we are? When I first joined STO I opted for human than later on you released playable Caitian faction in the c-store. I would love to be a Caitian but I don't want to start again from scratch to do it.

Dstahl: Now that we are working on a way to respec your traits, this is one option we are considering, but we haven?t made a final decision. We generally aren?t looking for players to be able to swap their species back and forth as easily as a respec, but we do appreciate that some players may have made a decision that they would like to change. Once we get the Trait respec in game, we will make a call on whether we will open up this option. If there are others that feel strongly about this, it would be good to see some of opinions in the forums.

This made be spit out my Coffee when reading this last line LOL! Dan, have not been following the forums or heard the repeated request for the last 2 years (at least) asking for this feature? The answer is YES LOL :P

The are players that bought a LTS that want to upgrade their Human to a Lib Borg. Also some Trill that want to upgrade to a Joined Trill.

What I think would be a good idea would be maybe to have the respec species token, but only have it applicable for the Alien type race. That way, if someone actually builds say a Cardassian, Romulan, or other fantastic races in the Alien type race and it finally gets a proper addition to the game, they can then become that race if they so choose.

If a respect all species token was added, I think it would probably come at a very substantial cost. I'd say the price of any new fancy T5 ship, 2500 zen. So that if someone does want to change their species, they can, but they do need to pay a hefty price to do so. It would also eliminate people from continually changing their character's race.

That's my thoughts on the subject.

Nice read. Thanks for answering my question. :)

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."
