I mean it's obviously a competent vessel, it looks fantastic and it's free. Bit of a grind involved but from what I've seen on other threads this event doesn't seem too bad.
My main issue is...can this ship play nice with Engineers? The grind may be simple but it would be time wasted if it turns out to be useless.
Most impressive, in my estimation. I can see many an Engineer playing tactical finally having a ship made more of steel than tinfoil; as most Escorts appear to be. Long have I wanted a Galor-class Assault Cruiser and this is a very near match in performance it would seem. Arguably superior with its ability to mount Dual Cannons, among other things.
My question to the Devs & BranFlakes is this: If the Chel Grett comes with Dual Cannons, can I also equip Dual Heavy Cannons? I personally consider Dual Cannons inferior to Beam Banks and Dual Heavy Cannons. Though I understand that could merely be, a certain point of view, as some players prefer the higher rate of fire over raw power...

I run mine with 4x DHC amd 4x Turrets as a maxed-out escort with 2x RCS consoles. This ship is fantastic.
You do not want to be caught in front of it during a full alpha.
There is already a vocal cross-section of the community that holds the cruiser as a second-tier class thanks to the growing tendency to favour DPS builds... The recent appearance of 'Destroyer' types certainly reinforced it, and now they've given us an... escort, with a cruiser's weapon layout, room for multiple hard-tanking powers, good turn rate, and DHCs.
I mean... this thing is truly fantastic, but I hope it's not going to set a precedent that could render every other ship in Tier 5 obsolete!
Really? I tend to favour Cruisers, even with my Sci & Tac Cpts. The versatility of having the most Weapons and Devices coupled with the robust Hull is what is most comfortable to me. The weapon combinations alone make it my fave. And though it is not a Cruiser in Name it clearly is a member of the Cruiser 'family' as shown in its stats:
The Breen Chel Grett Warship comes with an Energy Dissipator console which fires a targetable Energy Dissipating Blast that causes significant subsystem drain and has a chance to knock a single subsystem offline for a short duration. The Energy Dissipator can be equipped in any console slot on any Breen ship.

I agree with LordKylix47's assesment; it is a leaner, meaner Cruiser with some Escort elements to be sure. I can hardly wait to get it and play with the different builds i can fit her with!
I doubt this one vessel will make all Tier 5 ships obsolete, though it may have that effect on some of the more popular builds. I've seen T1 ships tricked out with Mk XII goodies perform very well; well enough i think i'll try it myself at some point albeit after Jan 14th. I'll prolly do 2 DBBs, 1 DHC & Rapid Transphasic fore, 3 BAs & TCT aft. Maybe play off of drkfrontiers' build by adding some high-end turrets and RCS consoles.
