Fix those Tricobalt mines

After my 5th pug match of having my team or the opposing team wiped out by tric users I've rather had enough.

They have become the number one defacto way of killing. It's getting to the point where half the players in a match are using them. Doesn't matter what career the captain is, they're always deadly. It's relly starting to get peoples backs up or in some cases just put them off pvp all together.

It's seriously beginning to ruin the game.

I'm not just talking PvP here, I'm talk PvE as well. They've made everything from Borg elite tactical cubes to the gates, shield or unshielded, total walkovers. I remember someone bragging in my team how his tric mines are taking out whole borg cubes without having fired anything else.

They are a no-skill-required method of playing the game.

    The mine should do no more damage than a torpedo
    Because the mine moves to the target

    Take away the mines movement and it would be fine

    But a moving mine is really a slow torpedo
    And should be limited to torpedo damage rates

    Some of our fleet members use them, finished infected elite
    Today with 9 minutes left on the timer

    9 minutes.......
    It's interfering with pve
    And just one of many broken pvp Features which
    Is so broken that it doesn't matter I'n pvp


    I want it fixed so it doesn't mess up pve

    Trics are so easily countered, it's not even funny. It is a trade off that they get more damage because they are targetable and move slowly. Not to mention if your shields are up, they do negligible damage. I think if you spent more time learning to use all of the various counters, you'd have more fun in pvp.

    As for pve, any pvp setup is a joke to use in pve. You will always roll pve in a pvp ship.

    Very untrue with the exception of the mine setup

    A pve players doesn't use skills I'n defensive areas
    A pvper has to , thus limiting a pvpers Dps or survivalability
    I'n pvp, that's why most who pvp do not pve

    Or maybe if the ai was actually smart enough to actually defend itself... Or maybe balance shields, or maybe do more then just occasionally one shot people, this wouldn't be an issue eh?

    Awwww how sad you don't want it to mess up your pve, what about all the **** in pve that messes up our pvp? Or the **** that's about to be added for pve that will TRIBBLE up pvp even more? Can I get that fixed so it doesn't mess up our pvp?

    Let's be simple about this

    How many character skill points did you spend
    To get defenses against pvp style attacks ?

    How many boff skills did you use to make another
    Helpless , slowed ect

    I'n pve all of those points and skills can be devoted
    To damage or strait up defense

    Console slots are not used on things like sub space jump

    Difficult concept to grasp but try

    Were doing 66000 damage every 30 secs to a gate
    Without crits plus damage from overloaded torps and
    Energy weapons I've saw a few crits over 110k just
    Today I know were noobs and I'm sure your +30 Acc
    Weapons do more damage than my x3 damage 40% crit
    Weapons right ?

    You lower the IQ of the majority of pvpers
    If you team up
    But you were going to switch weapons out right ?
    Then it's no longer a pvp build is it

    Anyone can see who doesn't know what there talking

    It takes you 30 seconds to do 66,000 damage to a target with next to no defenses? LOL

    Get off the forum.

    My Recon, does more damage than that chump.

    I think you better learn how to really spec a ship, and quit using boarding parties and or speccing more than the minimum into LOLground.

    Couple things about me, I'm science, I'm specd into science, and I'm fairy smart at defeating things in pvp or pve with only a single duel beam bank some chrono toros and a couple tric mine launchers. It takes tactics and skills to be able to pull off kills using a shield strip build and mines that get destroyed when you sneeze on them.

    Back to you though-

    Would you accept if a "lowly defense specd pvpr" would challenge you to this?

    Seven ways to counter an ability that, in order to be really effective, requires the sacrifice of an Attack Pattern Omega or a Cannon Rapid Fire 3.

    However only 2 mine launchers on one ship
    His hits were 66k avg per hit 30 seconds between
    Firing , he had 5 other weapons firing as well
    Quantums with hi yield 3 bla bla

    If there was a way to see each others ship
    Bo and doff layout I would love the challenge
    But there is no way to know you don't change
    Your build which you would for pve or there
    Wouldn't be so much talk about skilled pvp builds
    Would there ?

    Doesn't matter now does it :) I do a dozen or more
    Stfs everyday I see what's what on my days off I
    May play all day off and on.

    I don't know how much our team did I'n Dps pity there
    Isn't a counter that shows you overall damage

    Well I saw one of my friends pop a cube from 80-ish percent health in ISE a few days back with a DPB (think it was DPB, may have been DPA) tricobalt. Pretty nice to see, actually. :D

    Edit: And remember, PvE players don't have to optimise their builds through the roof and can get away with using, say, 2 DHCs, a beam array, a quantum torpedo and another beam, quantum, and tricobalt torpedo. Like me. Suck at PvP (except stealth capturing bases in C&H), but don't care. :cool:

    a couple of us should team up just to see how quickly we could blow through an stf. i know every time i do one, i think if there was 5 of me, it would be over in much less then half the time allotted.


    and tric mines, there is no acquitted defense once they hit you, your not supposed to be able to live through a dispersal pattern beta. its not within the skill tree or within the console slots to survive more then 1 good hit. like they others have said, prevention is answer.

    Do you have proof of your claimed time? I'm sure the pvp group would be more then happy to film their run.

    Pvprs spec into defense. How to you overcome defense in tho game? With sheer firepower.

    Npcs don't have defense in this game, so what happens when those pvprs with sheer firepower encounter a target that has nothing to actively defend itself? They kill it hard and fast.

    Dunno about you all but about a week ago I went in a elite infected and that last tac cube yea insta killed it with a wells tric drop and time rewind it lasted a whole .2 sec! same with that gate talk about a simple thing I bet I can solo it with this ship!

    O and im a pvper PVP builds > PVE builds!

    Your right pvpers specs into defense
    So a pver who doesn't need all that defense
    Can spec into offense with the skill points the
    Pver had to spend simply to survive

    The pvper must also use hi accuracy weapons
    That do less damage than a pver who can buy
    Hi damage hi crit weapons because he doesn't
    Need the extra accuracy

    Both have the same skill points to spend

    I have no idea what is so hard to grasp here

    No sorry no proof but I don't see any reason
    Why it can't be done by anyone already using mines

    We may spec another ship into mines and see
    Just how fast we can do it and post it for the dev team

    I'm sure with 2 or 3 mine ships it can be done
    A lot faster

    On the one hand i agree that tric mines are way over powered and if i had a chunk of dilithium for every time i saw somebody flying around in a PVP not targeting anyone laying a mine and claiming "mad skillage" when they get a kill is irritating. I rank trico mines on par with siphon boats in terms of skill.

    But as MK & Mav say, they can be easily avoided/shot down/repulsed or simply blow up via spam.

    Do i wish they were less powerful to make PVE even less laughable? Yes. Do i think they need a slight damage nerf for PVP? Maybe. Do i think people need to use counters? Obviously.

    FYI to the guy moaning over a 9min optional time remaining - is that unusual for you?

    Seriously, they should stay as they are at least for PvE. Most of the time, you are not lucky to team up with skilled players so you gotta to do something. Desperate time calls for desperate measures :)

    As in PvP, you can always shoot them down..and they are very easy to shoot them down. Why don't you try Kerrat warzone? There's a lot of freedom to move and to select your targets, and you are not bound to do anything there.

    I find that 2DHC 1DBB 1Qtorp alpha strikes don't exactly work like PVP in PVE. I'd take maybe 10% off in that salvo then plink the tac cube slowly with that stupid DBB and no TS for several minutes. More if I want to line my captain skills up. :/

    The only advantage I see is that I can attack Donatra from 10km out more accurately. Otherwise when I'm soloing gates (which I often do... rainbow boats are of now help) the lack of a DHC shows when pitted against the DBB.
