I don't know if it will help, but along with powercycling your router, did you try flushing your dns cache? (ipconfig /flushdns)

Again, NO idea if it would actually do any good at all...but it can't hurt.

Thanks for the suggestion but at this time I have done everything possible from my end to resolve this issue, including a DNS flush. I have ruled out all software issues on my computer other than Windows itself when I formatted my HDD and reinstalled Windows, my video driver, and the game client before having the issue again. I then ruled out my computer hardware when I went to my other computer and installed the game, same issue. Internet connection and Cryptic Servers are the only things left to test for the issue.

All current evidence points to the Cogent Communications server that we continue to see high pings, and sometimes timeouts, on. Cryptic is likely paying Cogent Co for the use of their servers to route to the game servers. While I'm not 100% on that, it is normally the case that the destination user is paying for that service. If Cryptic is paying for this service then only Cryptic really has the ability to tell Cogent Co to change the routing points. Making this Cryptic's problem and they've now taken over a week to resolve it as well as having had absolutely no communication to tell us that they even see that the problem exists.

I've informed my ISP of the issue and, to my knowledge, they are gathering data on the issue to send it to Cogent Co. I have informed Cogent Co of the issue and they say that there isn't actually any issue with the router that is giving off the high pings. I have informed Cryptic of the issue and they get back to me once every 3 days on average and they keep requesting that I perform more troubleshooting steps on my computer. The last communication I had with them was when they requested a tracert from me on the connection. So my hope is that they are getting to the point where they MIGHT see the issue and then they MIGHT contact Cogent Co to resolve it.

Edit: Correction - As I just got another reply from Cryptic asking that I replace my launcher and then send them more tracerts.

We might have this solved in a few weeks at this rate... They need a more direct line of communication... Phone or real-time chat... Even faster emails for priority issues would be nice...

It's been all day and any time of day or night here. sadly........can't fix one problem without creating 4 or 5 more......

I get this all the time. I don't even know what's causing it. It could be the router overheating, could be the DSL line on the pole, could be Cryptic's servers... Haven't a damned clue.

It is making me quite angry.

I ran a continuous poll for a couple of hours earlier this evening while playing CO. Had no problems ingame (and believe me, I was watching for any signs of instability), no server disconnects, etc. What surprised me was that, after logging out, I looked at my polling app and it showed this:

    te9-4.ccr01.dfw03.atlas.cogentco.com 154.54.11.49
    8 109ms 78ms 1% 9091 / 9273 15ms / 673ms

Still showing packet loss and high latency spikes. HOW I was able to play for a good couple of hours - zoning and everything - without any issues is completely beyond me. I don't know whether it was just a fluke or what.

From everything we've been able to find all I can say is that it's not a full time thing. The server seems to be just unstable, not unusable. I'm not sure if everyone has the issue at the same time or if you and I would find the issue at different times. I'd need to be on TS or something with others that are having this issue to be able to tell. >.>

But I've not actually had the issue so far tonight.

I had this problem for over a week, then one day it was miraculously fixed and everything ran fine. That lasted about 3 days and now today it's worse than ever. I'm lucky if it initially loads the zone my character is in. I'm luckier if I am able to actually move my character around. But I haven't been lucky enough to be able to change zones without losing connection. :(

btw, I'm in Austin, TX on Time Warner Cable

Why in gods name did they switch to unstable servers. This is just ridiculous. Starting to remind me of bigpoint entertainment...
(btw, been waiting 30 minutes to get into the game, and guess what, no such bloody luck...)

Once again I'm posting on the forums about this same issue and as one of my fleet members would say when totally frustrated.. KHANNNN!!. I originally sent in a support ticket and posted here on the forums back on Sept 7 under another thread on this same issue of server not responding, continual disconnects, lag, total freezing up, rubber banding issues, unable to even connect at times. I too am in Austin, Texas area on Time Warner Cable. I've had only a few hours in the past 2 weeks of being able to play with minimal problems, but once again, if I can even get logged on, continued server not responding and disconnects. My husband and I are paid lifetime members and starting to regret paying for a game we can't even play anymore and little or no response from support. The response to my ticket back on the 7th was that the servers were having issues that night but problem should be resolved. Welll, it's NOT!! I get totally frustrated with taking hours just to start assignments and do investigate officer reports and the library that I finally just give up and getting to where I don't want to try to even log in again the next day not knowing if once again I'm not even going to get to play again. PWI and CRYPTIC, get your heads out of you know where and admit you have a major server problem and it's not my ISP connection or anyone else that is having this problem. When your monthly subscribers stop paying you, you lose your job, so I suggest you get this problem fixed and fast or you like many other companies will go out of business do to lack of quality service to your customers. I unfortunately don't have that luxory of just quitting and not paying you anymore, since you ALREADY have my lifetime membership fee along with my husbands.

Can you post the response here or send it to me in a PM? I'm interested to see the different replies since we all seem to be getting something different except for a few of us being told to change out our launchers. =\

Other than that, I totally agree with you. I'm also a lifetime member as of a few months ago, this is entirely useless now with so many issues playing the game. =(

Have been having continued server not responding while in game and disconnects for approximately the last 14 hours. I know that it's not my isp since I have been able to talk in zones between the few seconds at a time off and on that it does respond to see if other people are experiencing the same problems and some are and some are not. I'm sure you are aware of this issue and if not, hopefully other people are turning in tickets to let you guys know there is a major connection issue going on.

No, the issue is not resolved, still having continual server not responding and disconnects, log in server time out disconnects, continual lag and freeze ups. This has been going on since your patch the end of August. I had about a day and a 1/2 in between then and now where i could play with miminal problems, the rest of the month I have barely been able to play or not at all due to the continued freeze ups and disconnects where I have just giving up trying to play on some days due to the frustration of not being able to play at all at times. The forums are full of posts due to this same problem that has been happening to a lot of people. Everything else responds and works great on my computer, it's just Star Trek Online that both myself and my husband are experiencing problems with. As the forums are full of posts regarding Texas Time Warner Cable players and high tracerts for your server Cogento, I'm sure it's a problem on your end and as a lifetime paid member, I would like an answer to this problem and a quick fix and not the continual brush off to not only myself but other players of this game. We spent hard earned money to be lifetime and am starting to regret having paid out the money for a game I can't even play and enjoy anymore

I'd like to play one day without my game no longer responding due to " server not responding". the fleet event is almost impossible to do, as I usually end up seeing my ship spinning in circles through the thing.

Well I will say it again. I am a f2p member, so I don't even come close to importance as you guys who are p2p, but all I have to say is this is really starting to remind me of BUGPOINT entertainment (supposed to be bigpoint, but TRIBBLE them).

I sent in two tickets over the past two weeks since I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and allowing them time to review it, but alas, unlike you guys, they didn't deem me even worthy of a response.

Now I have actually put some money into this game, and what am I getting in return for my hard earned cash? Jack @#$%. I was considering putting more since I was rather enjoying my first month of play, but after what's been happening, I might have to just quit. Which would make this the 4th MMO I have quit due to incompetent companies with their garbage excuse for customer service and overall performance.

PWE, I swear, if you fall as low as BUGPOINT entertainment, then you sir, can blow it out your TRIBBLE$.

 *grumble* ... every single time when I visit my bridge (or warp out of a system) the game decides that "Timed out contacting GameServer" and I find myself back at login screen... Fix! Now! The disconnection doesn't happen with all map transfers, only those which go out of the system or into ship's bridge - STFs for example work just fine in and out.

This is getting really annoying. I haven't disconnected so much lately but it seems like every single STF someone in my group has at least once in the past week or so.

So I finally got a reply again and it seems that are done getting information from me on the subject. Here was the final reply, with a highlighted portion that I got a kick out of reading:
    Hello,

Unfortunately we have not made significant developments with the issue at hand. It has been resolved for some users, but others are still having the issue. We are still investigating the issue and hope to resolve it ASAP. We have not had the issue occur with any additional users as well.

One recommendation is to try to reconfigure your network and IP (you may have to search around the web on how to do this).

We appreciate your patience in the matter and apologize once again for the inconvenience it has been causing you.

    Sincerely,

The Perfect World Tech Support Team

I'm in Texas with Time Warner also, with the usual unplayable lag/server disconnects.

ATT U-verse is offering a pretty sweet deal to switch over to them, and I'm going to call them today.

Couldn't possibly be worse, that's for sure.

So yea it has to be TWC and its connection to Cogent or the like.

I have ATT Uverse at my house. I have zero issues with STO at all. Today I help my mom out by watching the dog and I bring my laptop over so that I can run some doffing assignments and low and behold I'm having connection issues.

My parents use TWC. Living in south central texas (San Antonio).

I'm in England and getting stupid amount of disconnects and crashes to the desktop.

As for saying no other users experiencing that's bull as I mentioned it to a dev ingame along with in general threads. They only need to look at this sub-forum to see the truth. If they aren't even aware of reality that explains why the game is in the state it is.

Getting more and more pissed-off every day.

Response Via Email (Support Staff 48) 09/17/2012 12:13 PM

Yep, I've got the "Server Not Connecting" thing. Sometimes it seems it's under control again, and then...

I just tried to do an STF, but the server kept disconnecting (one time for over 4 minutes for sure.) Heck, my guy couldn't even be seen! (Even though the other players and such could.) Talking about it with the other members of my group, they said is was an ISP problem. What can I do? (Switching internet providers really isn't an option right now.)

So they've created a stock email that says only the recipient is affected by the issue. Yet obviously that's no the case or the stock email wouldn't exist.

Without a forum showing this they'd get away with it and the deception wouldn't been exposed.

I've had this issue since yesterday. My game was running fine before, then suddenly I can't play for more than 10 minutes, if I'm lucky. This is assuming I log in at all. Everything locks up and/or freezes for no reason. I have NEVER had this issue before and it's seriously pissing me off.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

I've been getting disconnected every two minutes for the past week or so. I assumed it was my crappy network, but now...maybe our problems are related.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

So I found this elsewhere in this particular forum. And here are my results. Why am I posting this? I am also South Texas / Time Warner. The problem is not us. Follow along...

( the following quote was trimmed for this post )
Pro-Tips on Diagnosing Lag and Rubberbanding

    Background:
For those unfamiliar with latency (or lag), this is how quickly your computer transfers files to a distant end. In our case, we're looking at how your computer interacts with Cryptic's servers. Most of the test information comes from STO's Technical Support FAQ.

Latency is measured in milliseconds (ms). This is directly measuring how long it takes to send/receive data. You want any tests below to have lower values.

    ... edit ...

    Test Summary:
We'll run two tests. The first is a called tracert and measures how quickly various connections between Cryptic and you respond.

    ... edit ...

    Good Results:
    • Values lower than 180 are ideal for playing MMOs (and anything under 100 is outstanding). Higher values usually cause lag and rubber-banding in-game. Report any values above 180ms. Right-click in the Command Prompt Window and select all. Save as a text file (txt).
    .

Here are my results: please note, I have "outstanding" results all the way through Time Warner. It isn't until TWO HOPS from the final server (which would be CRYPTIC'S ISP, not ours) that I get "Report any values above 180ms.

Seems to me Cryptic should be talking to THEIR ISP, not us talking to ours - particularly because it's not just one region of the world with this problem. I'll try sending it in -again-, but I haven't ever heard back with this information.
