Just to throw a monkey wrench in here - don't forget that this is only the first holding in a system that will have more than one. Notice that in the STO wiki writeup on upcoming content "http://www.stowiki.org/Upcoming_content", Season 7 is supposed to bring us "New fleet holding: Embassy at Romulan colony". So hold on to your socks when we find out what THAT will cost - and other holdings on down the line.

Well I can say one thing for sure that everyone would agree with - after putting so much resources - dilth - time and everything else, not being able to customize your starbase in any way to make it different from all the rest is the height of laziness on the Dev's part(special projects don't count and are also pretty lame - a few plants and some tribbles for the Feds - stupid)
Starbases are supposed to be your fleets unique thing - but they are all the same - can't put up you fleet logo - can't do anything with the interior - it's just plain LAME
Dear OP,
You sound really burnt out. Anyone would be at this point trying to complete the starbase requirements on their own. You've made many threads about how you feel it's pointless, unfair, etc., etc., yet you continue to spend [I'm guessing here] many hours a day just for the sole purpose of progressing your base. To bear the burden of the dilithium costs alone is unimaginable to me, not to mention the hard-to-obtain doffs and the grindy fleet marks.
Fleet starbases are not meant for a single person to complete. All of you complaints are made in this context, so no, most people do not feel like you. If I start to feel burnt out, I'll just stop doing the stuff that makes me feel this way. I did my first fleet mark events in two weeks last night (although I do turn in CXP for FM). I haven't donated dilithium for a month, and I never buy doffs off the exchange, but will donate them when and if I get them. Still, I have hundreds of thousands of Fleet Credits, have bought everything I wanted from the fleet stores, and our starbase is still chugging along because it is a group effort. We'll have the T3 shipyard complete next weekend and I am no worse for wear and still enjoy [most of] the fleet mark events, although I do wish we had more avenues to earn fleet marks (cough*PvP*cough), which is why I took a two week break from those missions.
But they don't HAVE to make it in 7 months. There's no prize for getting there in 7 months. If they make it in 10, great! If they make it in 12, great! If they make it in 15, great!
I'll say what I always say to everyone: stop rushing to nowhere. A year from now this game could be going in an entirely different direction and Fleetbases could seem trivial or meaningless. Play it to play it and just ride along.
Aaah but what about the Ships and Gear Cosmic One? Those are the newest, latest, best, and greatest shinies. They must be acquired and there is only one way to accomplish that!
To the OP: Eh... I am probably going to just keep adding things onto the base as I can like I do now but that will be a sick thing to see.
i said I another thread about Starbases that the who concept should be like Harry Kim said in the final eps of VOY "Maybe it's not the Destination that matters but the Journey"
That said I still believe that after T3 you will see the same parabolic rise in people not carrying on preety uch in line with the parabolic increase in reasources required
Most people don't seem to realize yet that getting to T3 is preety much a cake walk for any fleet with 5+ active member - I am almost at 40k across the board wth just 1 - BUT after T3 look out the scale goes massive
and the argument of making a bigger fleet is useless - the bigger the fleet the less people get to know each other and participate with each other - which is the whole point of a fleet in the first place
a 400 person fleet is just stupid(and I don't need any comments from fleet leaders of large fleets who have legions of minions building their Space castle for them)
I sure hope that tier 4 and 5 SB are not going to be near impossible to get. I really want the Fleet Nebula and Fleet Armitage (both tier 5's). I would hate to work hard and never get them, while a small few do just to see Cryptic ditch the program and move on (with me never getting my hands on one). It would really be upsetting to keep having carrots dangled out in front of us, to be pulled away at the last moment before attainment, especially with the game being turned into "grind mode" for the last year. We grinded for STF stuff to get the MACO/Omega/Sets to spawn off to this current one. I haven't been able to pvp much because others equipment is that much better and I had to grind to get mine to match, never getting to the point where I was equipped for PvP at the time (and I really want to do PvP). How much grinding does Cryptic think should be in a game? Between STF's and Doff missions (for dilithium and Doffs) and now Fleet Missions for fleet marks/credits, I don't think many people have time to do exploring or pvp or things as such anymore. This is not a good trend.

Right, cause Larger fleets MUST not have the capacity for individuals to get to know each other. Very inciteful of you.
My Fleet is 500 + and we dont operate as a large number of minions. You dont believe me go check out our site. The Fleet is broken down into Divisions, those Divisions are then broken down further into Squadrons. Each Division is organized and oriented toward a specific gamestyle. If youre into PvP you go into the Division for that, if youre into Roleplay you can join the Division for that as well. And the great thing is, you dont have to be in a specific Division to participate. We also operate on TS.
So this argument that Large fleets are just full of mindless minions building a castle is just your way of silencing those who might have a difference of opinion on the matter. You can personally dismiss those opinions. But considering Cryptics stand on Fleets, and the layout of Tiers for Starbases. Its you who has a very tiny voice, and its you who arent going to be heard over the 'legions of minions'.

There are way more players divided among the small fleets than there are in mega fleets. If they drive away the small fleets, the game will die.
500 man fleets are garbage, most of the people in a fleet that large never even talk to or associate with 90% of the fleet base.
I've been playing mmos for about 10 years and I have never once seen a a fleet that large that doesn't have an egomaniac at the top, no recruitment standards and drama.

Id like to see where you got this information from. Cause Ive never seen any statistics put out about number of fleets and their sizes.
As for our fleet being garbage or any other fleet near our size being garbage. Thats your opinion, not fact. So you might try and reflect that in your statements. And again with the numbers. You dont have anything to back it up with you shouldnt waste time writing it.
As for your resume of mmo gaming. Anyone here can claim to have played for that long. Doesnt mean your experiences are equal to anyone elses. To claim that because youve spent that long playing games like this that you would know better then me about my own fleet...Come on.
Egomanics....so then I take it youve met every player to ever log into an MMO? NO? ok then youre opinion is just that. An opinion. We all have one.
i think tier 4 and 5 are quite possible for an average size fleet playing on a regular basis and i don't mean just constant grinding.
if you do some quick math you can see it breaks down into attainable numbers. for example, i saw a project requiring 10,800 fleet marks. with 50 people that would be 216 fleet marks each; not too bad. if twice as many FMs were required the per person requirement would be 432, still not bad, you could easily get that in a week or 2.
just getting 20 fleet marks per day would give you 600 in a month. i saw a post i believe saying a project would require 180,000 FMs. with 50 people that would be 3,600 fleet marks each. sounds pretty stiffs, but even at a very relaxed pace you would have your portion in 6 months.
you need 2,000,000 dilithium. with 50 people that would be 40,000 each. i would say a player could easily get that in a week to a month. it won't happen overnight, but it is very achievable.
getting say 2,000 dilithium per day would give you 60,000 dilithium in a month.
i'm thinking fleet bases should be a long term goal and would expect it to take a few months to even a year or 2.
my advice; focus on the journey and not the destination.

So..you're allowed to post your opinion, but I should keep mine to myself...
Like I said. Egomaniacs.
I know for sure that in 500 man fleets many of the members are stangers that share a guild tag. This is not an opinion, this is a fact. Actually, you'd be hard pressed to have a 50 man fleet of people that knew each other and got along well. If this game had notifications of people leaving fleets there would be plenty of "who was that" comments in fleet chat. it's the nature of guilds that large.
As for you wanting proof on fleet numbers,Its pretty clear if you open your eyes in the game that there are tons of small fleets and not really a lot of large ones.

If you werent allowed to post your opinion. You wouldnt. But youre masquerading your opinions as facts.
No one said anything about everyone knowing everyone. I said it isnt a loose based group of people who dont know each other.
Heck, I work in an organization thats a good 800 people. And belong to a smaller group within that of 160. I know everyone within that 160 and I know atleast half of the rest. But then again, you might have a different opinion of 'knowing' each other.
Youre the one that started making up 'facts' about fleet numbers and how they interact. The burden of proof is on you. "Open your eyes" is not proof of anything. You just cant admit you made it all up....Egomaniacs indeed.

I think applying a work place environment to a online game enviroment as a comparison is completely bogus.
The real question is how many of the fleet leaders minions building his castle does he
a)know
b)communicate with daily
c)participte in activities with
d)what is the turn-over rate now
those are real questions I want to know about the so-called "egomaniacs"
Hate it? Dont do it
Hate crafting? Dont do it
Hate doffs? dont do it
Hate pvp? Dont do it
Hate stf's? Dont do it
hate creating foundary content? Dont do it
I have heard a good share of people over the years hate each and every thing above.
But thats the thing each and everything is almost a game itself. I like starbases. I like my fleet defiant, My Oddy Uniforms and such. Also like to contribute. Not a pvp guy so know what?? I dont do it lol. Trust me if starbases are not going the way the majorty likes then cryptic will change it or abandon it. You crazy grinders are just mad you cand do it in a day;) Im in a big fleet and we are just touching into t4 and so far all seems happy with it.
In the end dont like it dont do it. I see plenty online not even in a fleet. Weapons? Maco is better. But if you dont like none of the above maybe its time to move on to Star Wars, Heard it was going ftp:)
Just the 1.7 million dilth alone to upgrade fully to T3 is crazy - let alone the doff requirements - and before someone says you can do assignments for dilth but lower xp - I day Dilth sink again
Are fleet members now willing to contribute everything bu dilth given dilth high cost and scare avail = no advancement for most fleets
T4 is going to be a dilth sink "HOLE" - get out the army of bulldozers
Add to that that it's 150 assognments to T4 - and each assignemnt is what - 1000+ fleet marks - get out your super grinding hats on - fleet leaders will have to be like the Russians at Stalingrad - standing behind their members/soldiers ready to shoot them if they turn back from the grind.
So is T3 the end of the line for most fleets????
Short answer is: Yes.
I will keep all my dilitium, already stop grinding fleet marks, will do some fleet missions but with a smal fleet tier3 will be the end.

I exchange emails with my Fleetmates virtually every single day - we're all on the same Yahoo Group and constantly talking with each other. I tend to do weekly polls and I'm regularly asking them what they're wanting from Fleetbase Provisions and whatnot. We also do 2 Fleet gatherings per week.
Last Saturday we did Fleet Action night. There were 71 of us on all at the same time. We looked like an Armada moving from FA to FA in several different Shards. It was actually very cool as it gave a sense of us all moving toward an objective - I easily imagined us heading off to save the Federation from some invader. I've done Deferi Invasions were virtually everyone on the map was a member of my Fleet. IIRC, the smallest Fleet Night we ever had was with 23 people.
And yes, I have a relationship with almost all of them. The core group are my closest gaming friends - some of which I've MMOed with for over 12 years. The secondary group are there friends, and so on. All 127 people in my Fleet have some degree of connection between them - and as I said we all communicate daily on Yahoo and have all built additional levels of friendship over the last 2 years.
We didn't all start out Fleets just to get some free bank space.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Old Yahoo tools never die. They just keep being used by old interneters.
Anyways, this OP smells of the I want Omega MKXI but I don't wanna grind for it and because Cryptic isn't answering my complaints, I quit STFs.
Levi3 is just frustrated. He's a Fleet of 1 who will make it to T3 probably by the end of the month. But as with anything, if you're going to spend 6-10 hours per day exclusively doing something for nearly 2 months you're going to get burnout and frustration. There's nothing I could do in any MMO for that many hours over 2 months that wouldn't burn me out from MMO gaming entirely.

I think/hope my quote or response was to the guy saying he was in a fleet of 500 - yours being 127 is 1/4 of that.
and yes I am getting starbase fatigue, however I have cut back substatially since the first 6 weeks - now I spend more time selling common doffs - like 200-300 a day

Fleets of 500 don't necessarily mean 500 players. My Fleet has 127 players but over 400 characters in it.

Just calm down and take your time, you aren't supposed to reach T5 in a month or even 6 months, MMO's always think long term, the longer something takes, the longer people will be occupied and interested.
500 man fleets are garbage, most of the people in a fleet that large never even talk to or associate with 90% of the fleet base.
I respect your opinion, but claiming that 500 man fleets are garbage isn't true for many of the organized fleets out there. Regarding people not knowing each other, that comes down to how many are playing at the same time of the day (large fleets has in many cases members from all over the world) and it also depends on each individual member.
I've been playing mmos for about 10 years and I have never once seen a a fleet that large that doesn't have an egomaniac at the top, no recruitment standards and drama.
I have over 10 year experience of MMO's (5 as a fleet/clan/guild leader) and although I agree that very few large fleets are organized or structured there are a few exceptions to that.
The fleets that spams invites to random players might be large, but they match the description you have above (no recruitment standards and lots of drama).
Then you have the fleets that has a recruitment standard where each application goes through a recruitment process before being accepted into the fleet or denied. Those fleets tend to have allot less drama (there isn't a single fleet that never had or never will have some sort drama).
Regarding "egomaniac at the top", many of those fleets don't survive for long and tend to have lots of drama. That's why I introduced a council type leadership in my fleet where we are 11 members making decisions and where we hold fleet meetings once a month to get feedback from our community (we look at our self as a gaming community rather than a fleet).
We must be doing something correct since our fleet/community was created 6 months before STO launch (August 2009) and we are still going strong with 400+ active members with minimum drama. I won't deny we have had our share of drama in the past, but we learn from our mistakes and try to not make them again in the future.

There are few mega fleets run as well as the 12th - many new mega fleets are that way purely because of starbases.
From what I've seen in these mega fleets is there are usually 2 groups of players. Usually they are divide by those who are on voice and those who are not. Usually the ones on voice know each other and the ones not on voice are relatively unknown even though they are there. Usually from blind invites.
it is not too often that you have voice people use the text once on voice.
The other thing I've seen is that there are a few mega fleets out there that made up of multiple smaller fleets. Usually because everyone wants control and not willing to share power or cooperate. They seem to have a dozen fleets with 2 or 3 starbases at about tier 3.
As a former member of 12th Fleet, I will say I enjoyed the community and teamwork with the various divisions, however, that fleet is run by a privileged few who do back door meetings about members and they are the ones who generally get the good stuff.
Back to the OP, I understand he is a fleet of one, which in itself is an oxymoron, he will be burnt out trying to do the work of 20 members (I remember a dev quoting that number), hell I get burned out grinding STFs.

It's actually based on 25 casual players. I posted this elsewhere but I'll repost it here.
Based on that Fleetbases are configured around the idea of 150 to 225 played hours per week.

getting say 2,000 dilithium per day would give you 60,000 dilithium in a month.
i'm thinking fleet bases should be a long term goal and would expect it to take a few months to even a year or 2.
my advice; focus on the journey and not the destination.
Post your opinion, but don't state it as a fact when you do.
Short answer is: Yes.
I will keep all my dilitium, already stop grinding fleet marks, will do some fleet missions but with a smal fleet tier3 will be the end.
As someone stated some pages before (sorry, didn't read them all): there's no need to hurry.
It's just my opinion.
I think/hope my quote or response was to the guy saying he was in a fleet of 500 - yours being 127 is 1/4 of that.
and yes I am getting starbase fatigue, however I have cut back substatially since the first 6 weeks - now I spend more time selling common doffs - like 200-300 a day
I won't argue there, it's like that in most MMO's
I respect your opinion, but claiming that 500 man fleets are garbage isn't true for many of the organized fleets out there. Regarding people not knowing each other, that comes down to how many are playing at the same time of the day (large fleets has in many cases members from all over the world) and it also depends on each individual member.
Fleet Admiral Enterprise-D
There are few mega fleets run as well as the 12th - many new mega fleets are that way purely because of starbases.
it is not too often that you have voice people use the text once on voice.
The other thing I've seen is that there are a few mega fleets out there that made up of multiple smaller fleets. Usually because everyone wants control and not willing to share power or cooperate. They seem to have a dozen fleets with 2 or 3 starbases at about tier 3.
Back to the OP, I understand he is a fleet of one, which in itself is an oxymoron, he will be burnt out trying to do the work of 20 members (I remember a dev quoting that number), hell I get burned out grinding STFs.
The numbers are based on 25 players playing casually, defined as logging in 2-3 times a week and playing an average of three hours each session. The data mining shows, as well, that the effects of more aggressive and expansive playing dramatically offsets numbers, meaning that 5 players who play very aggressively will actually outstrip a fleet of 25 players playing casually.
Based on that Fleetbases are configured around the idea of 150 to 225 played hours per week.
