Just the 1.7 million dilth alone to upgrade fully to T3 is crazy - let alone the doff requirements - and before someone says you can do assignments for dilth but lower xp - I day Dilth sink again
Are fleet members now willing to contribute everything bu dilth given dilth high cost and scare avail = no advancement for most fleets
T4 is going to be a dilth sink "HOLE" - get out the army of bulldozers
Add to that that it's 150 assognments to T4 - and each assignemnt is what - 1000+ fleet marks - get out your super grinding hats on - fleet leaders will have to be like the Russians at Stalingrad - standing behind their members/soldiers ready to shoot them if they turn back from the grind.
I don't know to be honest but I think the best way of approaching starbases personally is using it as a means to bond the fleet with a common goal.
It does come across at times in terms of contributions as a bit of a race to cross the T5 finishing line or get the most fleet credits within the fleet but with all the shiny toys that are unlocked with each level I can completely understand that mentality and the system does seem to encourage it.
With little endgame content currently to be fair there is little more to do in the game once you hit Vice Admiral other than grind stfs or base resources.
Like I say, personally speaking here I think that it's best to think of the base as a means to an end to get people working together. I totally agree it does seem like a mountain of resources to climb but the focus should really, in my mind, first and foremost be on the fleet members with the starbase coming secondary as a bonus.
Heck, you can earn that in 1 month, assuming your 60,000 per day.
You're going to make it to T3 by yourself! That's quite an accomplishment - a HUGE accomplishment, IMO. If you can make T3 just by yourself why is it so hard to grasp that a Fleet of 25+ people will make T4 or T5?
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Well it is true that I am at 36k /34k/ 37k xp on my solo base - but I refuse to grind marks any more and have not done colony invasion since I could get marks from doffing
and really the dilth grind is getting to me to - so once T3 is done I will cut that in half - and i will cut my doffing in half since I won't need the fleet marks
If I still was going at the pace that I did for the 1st 6 weeks I would be pretty close to starting the T3 upgrades
Really to be honest - INSANITY - has taken hold of me - there is no other reasonable explaination for the starbase in my mind.
but with the shear parabolic increases past T3 most fleets under 50 will be hard pressed.
100k xp in each section for T4 - from 50k xp in T3 - and the Colossal 250k xp in each section for T5
and T3 assignments doubled in fleet marks from 300 to 600 - so T4 assignments going to be 1200? and 2400 for T5
Sorry no way no how will any fleet short of 400 people working 5 hours a day each make T5 in 7 months
no. It'll still get completed in most fleets before half of the fleet ever logs on.

But they don't HAVE to make it in 7 months. There's no prize for getting there in 7 months. If they make it in 10, great! If they make it in 12, great! If they make it in 15, great!
I'll say what I always say to everyone: stop rushing to nowhere. A year from now this game could be going in an entirely different direction and Fleetbases could seem trivial or meaningless. Play it to play it and just ride along.

True - I think Cryptic will have to make some adjustments to T4 and T5 requirements or only a handfull - maybe 10-20 will ever get there before they just give up and move on to the next thing.

why is that a problem? one man is not a fleet.. get over it, recruit people or join a larger fleet.
I think people are forgetting that this is a "7 month" project that people have gotten to tier 3 out of 5 is 1.5 months. This is not a sprint. They did that "7 month" estimate on a casual 20 man fleet.
I have seen 5 man fleets at tier 3 who are getting burnt out. I really do recommend to people that they take a week off of star bases just to have fun.

This thread is not about me - I want to find out what the rest of the community thinks - i only mentioned my project because cosmic brought it up - I don't want to recruit because then I would have to deal with other people - and now i focas almost solely on doffing - 90% - which is a solo activity.

Considering the main advantages to the fleet starbase is advance/elite gear, ships and a few transwarp points then you may not need a starbase if your goal is to mains do solo missions. for a person who doffs then the tuffli freighter is the better choice. you have more functions then the starbase out of the box and have more useful transwarp points.
A solo tier 2 starbase provides more then enough gear. I do admit that a tier 3 ship yard does look appealing. but usually when a starbase gets to tier 3 a fleet had to provision over 100 ships to do so. Best thing you can do is negotiate a trade.

I doff 10 toons and every now and then duck into a STF - the Tuffli is not for me - since currently I am trying to maximize cxp - I don't have to go very far to do this - 6 of the 10 are all part 100k and used solely to turn fleet marks and dilth
So...am I the only who's figured it out by now?
Don't you see...?
Stabases are what Cryptic hopes will keep players online.
It's perfect...players spend money and time to grind for stuff for their Starbases and Cryptic doesn't have to pay any Developers for new mission content...they can sit back and count the money while the players who are so blinded by the "must have T5 StarBase" syndrome grind mindlessly the same few missions hundreds and hundreds of time.
Don't worry, tho...they'll keep introducing new ships for you to spend more money on so the same mission you've done 500 times already will feel different because you doing it in a new ship.
And of course, lockboxes will be plentiful...
Have fun, kids...:D

If they are not VERY BUSY working on tons of Season 7 content - then yes this is 100% the case - and if they are not working on some major content improvements for season 7 after nickle and diming everyone to death for 7 or 8 months - they can kiss a LOT of players good-bye - which will put the games continued existence in serious jeapordy - which makes me sad to think of:(

I would comment further, but unlike their facebook page, I seriously would be pissed if whoever's in charge of censorship shuts me up here too
But I will say this, our fleet has decided to postpone all starbase construction projects... it's getting ridiculous with the... *noises in background, pistol goes off*

to be honest i really dont see why this is a problem , so it takes time ? wow

Yeah, I don't understand the time argument, myself. There was a time in MMO history when it would take months of playing, and monthly paying, just to get to level-cap. No one ever purchased a game assuming they could get to level cap in a week - let alone a double XP weekend. People were accustomed to spending months getting to end-game, spending months grinding the raids to get full sets of purple gear, etc. Now it's like everyone only wants Immediate Gratification: if they can't have it in a month they just don't want it; and the game's a piece of TRIBBLE for making them earn it in a longer period of time.
Amen on what Cosmic and Rincy said; certainly a 'great minds think alike' moment.
I mean, look how fast some have hit tier 3, in a month and a half, that is QUICK. But I don't think it's the end of the road, far from it.
I am thinking of these past few weeks as the...Autobahn. Yes, that's a good way of putting it, the Autobahn, where everyone was running like mad, rushing to get somewhere as fast as they can, and now...
It's more of a back country road. Moving more slowly as people start hitting tier 3 in several areas and seeing the much longer road, might relax somewhat and actually BE OK with not instantly making it to the next tier.
We've moved off the highway folks, and onto the scenic route...enjoy it.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Tier 3 is definitely as far as my fleets are going.
The costs involved, the frustration in gathering specific doffs, and the frustration in dealing with tons of bad PuGs (we can't be on at the same time and do fleet raids together), and of course the new grind for marks. (Burnout is already occuring and we haven't officially reached Tier 2).
But that was expected, given that one article on the Starbases. The only ones who will be seeing Tier 4 + are the large fleets, not small fleets like mine.
Don't get me wrong I love the pace its going for now - today I have already sold over $20 million in common doffs - so they are good for some things. I just think that the parabolic increase that happens after T3 is going to be the nail in the coffin for most.
I'm in one of the larger fleets and at the moment the only thing really slowing it down is the week long construction times on the projects. That will be temporary however and after that I see the project cruising on as normal.
So it seems as far as 100+ fleets T3 will be relatively unnoticed.

You know things double past T3? So going from T3 to T4 is like doing all you have done again - and then some.
also T2 to T3 is like 42,000 fleet marks - t3 to t4 is over 180.000 marks(not including upgrade projects)!! things will still be crusing?
Right now, my fleet has two active members due to RL events and commitments. However, since the start of Starbases, my Fleetmate and I are almost at T2 now (T2 Shipyard to be complete in 3 days). If a two man fleet can do that in almost 2 months, then T3 for 5+ members should not be a problem.
For us, we are going to do all of the upgrades with the exception of the Bartender and then do a casual run with the rest of the projects. If the other members come back, then we can work on getting to T3 then. Again though, we are not trying to get this done tomorrow and if it take 3 years to get to T3 or T4, then so be it.

My fleet is still going strong, we are almost at T3 on everything and are making good speed.
We are currently 450+ members that are actively contributing to the projects and estimate that we will hit full T5 in March/April 2013.
When the starbases got added we knew that it would be something that requires teamwork and time (lots of time) not to mention quite some planning from the commanding officers of the fleet to make things work as fairly as possible for everyone in the fleet (thanks to lack of starbase management from Cryptic).
Some improvements that we would like to see in starbase management are:
1. Better permissions settings for the provisional stores (members can't buy items that doesn't take a provision if the "provisional store" settings isn't marked in fleet settings).
2. Allow fleets to put a cap on each individual provision that members can buy per day/week/month. Example: allow to buy use 1 fleet ship provision and 2 engineering provisions per month.
3. Allow fleets to put hard caps on how many fleet credits each member can gain per day.
4. Better UI in the provisional stores that shows exactly what is needed to buy the different items (what takes a provision and what doesn't since not all items take provisions).
I hope someone from Cryptic will read this and take notes, it will save us from allot of administrative work just to run the starbase in a fair manner for our members.

Really? 140 tactical and 60 security common doffs required for tier 3 main military project and it still only gives 1k xp? Anybody knows a reward system works by giving more of something for more work when each tier requires more xp. I mean comeon, you're almost doubling the requirements of everything without even giving a 50% increase in the base xp that each tier's project gives. Did you even put any thought into this system before you implemented? I understand you want the starbases to take awhile, but at this rate it's going to be nigh impossible to get tier 5 on anything in less than 2 years. I say we make this our stand, make a stand, less requirements or more xp per tier. Hands up. o/
Just the 1.7 million dilth alone to upgrade fully to T3 is crazy - let alone the doff requirements - and before someone says you can do assignments for dilth but lower xp - I day Dilth sink again
