Tech: Captain, we're picking something up from the enemy fleet!

Mitchell: I need more than that, Ensign!

Tech: It's...the signal matches the subspace weapons detonated last week.

    *Hargrove stands from his chair.*

Hargrove: Lock weapons on the origin point and warn our allies to get clear! Captain, regulations require us to be in agreement: do we fire the epsilon warhead?

Mitchell: Aye sir. Tactical... Fire the weapon.

*The Tactical Officer looks at him.*

    Now!

*Less than thirty seconds later, just as the Confederation Fleet make distance, a subspace rift tears through the UNSC formation, covering the entire fleet in seconds before beginning to stabilise and suddenly contracting, pulling the wreckage of many of the destroyed ships into subspace. There's an eerie calm in orbit of Tzenkethi Prime.*

    Hargrove: ...Any remaining contacts?

*OOC: Given Hargrove just fired a subspace weapon - outlawed by the Khitomer Accords and explicitly forbidden by the Confederation Charter...Federation Commanders might be just a little ticked off by this. At the same time, it could be argued that all Federation scanners would have seen was a subspace rift opening from a ship which was about to fire a subspace weapon itself... Although Republic Epsilon weapons are quite distinct.*

*R.S.S. Enterprise. Matt is in the CIC watching the holomap.*

Athena: The minefield's almost ready, Admiral.

Matt: What about the Vaadwaur Fleet?

Athena: No intelligence yet. They could come out anywhere.

Matt: Thank you General. I hope it's enough...

    *An alarm goes off.*

Athena: It's them. Subspace Corridor opening at the edge of the system.

*Meanwhile, Gamma Quadrant. Kudar is sitting in a spartan room aboard a Dominion Cruiser, with two Jem'Hadar guarding the door.*

Kudar: How much longer is this going to take?

Jem'Hadar: The Vorta will send for you.

    Kudar: Yes, but when?

Jem'Hadar: When he is ready to send for you.

*Kudar sighs and leans back, before the door opens and a Jem'Hadar First walks in.*

First Tumak'iklan: Turanian, come with me.

*Kudar stands up and is led to a small meeting room in another area of the ship, where a Vorta is waiting.*

Vorta Talarn: Ah, Minister! Greetings! How was your journey?

Kudar: Which part? The shuttle trip halfway across the galaxy or being stuffed into a metal box that constitutes a room on your fighters and brought here at gunpoint?

Talarn: *Insincere Laughter* I'm afraid you must forgive the accommodation - Jem'Hadar--

Kudar: Don't eat, sleep, or drink. I know.

*Talarn shrugs. His smile then fades as he looks at Tumak'iklan.*

    Talarn: You may leave now.

*Once the First leaves, Talarn motions to a seat opposite. Kudar accepts the seat as Talarn passes him a jug.*

Vortaberry Wine? It's a good vintage.

Kudar: Thank you, but I prefer to be sober during diplomatic negotiations.

    Talarn: Very well.

Kudar: I must admit, I was surprised by the precautions you've taken. I was given the impression that the use of the subspace beacon had been prepared-for.

Talarn: That was many years ago, Minister. And we could hardly risk meeting a potential trap unprepared.

    Kudar: From your allies?

    Talarn: Anything is possible.

Speaking of which; would I be correct in assuming that you are here to invoke the Dominion's military obligations to your people?

    Kudar: You would.

Talarn: Well, there we have a problem I'm afraid. You see, there have been certain...developments...within the Dominion. Petty issues, really - border disputes between our local allies, minor insurrections on fringe worlds... All of this does however mean that our forces are spread quite thin.

Kudar: You seemed unoccupied enough to send a swarm of Jem'Hadar fighters to meet my lone shuttle.

Talarn: You were near their patrol route.

    Kudar: Ah. *Kudar plays along.*

Talarn: So, you see, it would be difficult for us to organise the forces sufficient to assist you in your conflict with the Vaadwaur.

Kudar: I don't suppose I could confirm that with the Founders?

Talarn *indignant*: I speak for the Founders.

Kudar: Well, tell the Founders this: the Vaadwaur are allied to Malick. Malick is organising a united front between the UNSC, Vaadwaur, Tzenkethi and Karee. Before long, he may even control the Breen Confederacy. If he wins this war, which is a distinct possibility, he will control the Bajoran Wormhole and a large chunk of Republic space near the Dominion. He will have a military capacity which you haven't witnessed since the Eblisi invaded. Then, he's going to come after you.

*He stands up and bows to Talarn.*

    Good day, Vorta.

*As Kudar leaves and is escorted to his ship, Talarn stands up. There's a gloopy noise from the corner of the room.*

    Talarn: He may be right.

What would you have me do?

Of course. The Founders are wise in all things.

Steele: We are more than confident we can handle this threat. *it's not brought up that often but the coalition's ships are technologically more advanced than the other governments. It tends to build a sense of confidence in them bordering on too much but they don't let it get to their heads too much.*

Garrick: Let's see what they've brought out.

*The Vaadwaur-Alliance Fleet numbers almost 1000 ships, with almost 100 capital ships, including the Alliance's last 2 Citadel ships. In all, the fleet is almost 3x the size of the Republic fleet facing them, with a massive theoretical superiority in capital ship firepower.*

    Matt: Well...now we know.
