No matter where you move that text notification window or how much you minimize it, it still fills a significant portion of the screen with spam.

You can move the notifications box all the way down to the bottom of the screen. I have mine on the bottom at the right. As a result, I have zero idea who rolls what on something unless I swap over to the tab with system messages on it.

All you see is a very quickly scrolling single yellow line of text, doesn't cover up or obscure a thing.

Aye, that's similar to what i did. I moved mine to one of my side monitors to keep them completely out of my focus. It's there to read when i am interested, but not in the way if i am in battle.

Or you can just turn off those notifications in your options. :)

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing, but according to my settings, that is disabled.

I think the only thing that achieved is to deactivate the "player x has opened ship lockbox" spam.

    Thanks Cryptic. <heavy sarcasm>

That's my understanding, but to be honest there are enough things that count as notifications that I do want to see that I haven't toggled it back off since whatever patch they added it. I've just moved mine to the side of the screen at the bottom half so the more spammy messages don't cover what I'm looking at. Really, though, as I've posted in other threads about it there's no need for loot roll information to be thrown all over the screen like it is. Leave it as a system message, UI team!

One of the Operators just passed this incident to me.

All I can say is you were lucky I was not online at the time, because I would have muted the channel in a heartbeat and left it off until the Vault Event was over!

    8. During Vault event, only TWO people may recruit for Vault event teams at once!

This does not mean you can dodge the rule by asking for a Vault Team!

According to the operator, the channel was full of people asking for teams!

So allow me to give you an ironclad clarification:

    2 People Recruiting only!
This means you join their team, but do not ask for teams!

This is primarily an STF channel and not a Vault channel!
If you're interfering with STF teaming by chat flooding, it is not allowed.

Don't let me hear about this again.

    End of line.

All I can say is that if you were online, your reaction would have been out of line, muting the entire channel for the duration of the Vault event due to players asking for Vault teams, that's very much a dramatic over reaction in my opinion.

Seriously I don't understand why you don't simply tell player's who ask for Vault teams, to go join the REDALERT channel, which is for events... If you did this, told your operators to do this, you wouldn't ever have a problem with this again.

When player's used to ask in REDALERT for STF info or teams I used to refer them to the EliteSTF channel, which is the primary reason EliteSTF picked up so fast, due to word of mouth (or chat), but I can't do that anymore anyway because of the action taken by the admin here.

Also, over the passed week this channel has dramatically decreased in activity.

I do have to agree with this. I am a member of both channels, and in an MMO community word of mouth from popular channels referring to each other would be far more logical and resourceful.

I back the mods (as seen by my prior posts) in their cleaning up the channel from rule bviolations, but also want to back the suggestion of educating others of where to go for resources that meet their needs. We are ALL guilty of at one time or another asking in a channel for something not channel related. And I have always appreciated when someone came out and told me "Hey, you might want to go here for that". I only just recently just discovered the "Accolades" channel because I was referred there by word of mouth. Since then I have found many great STF players in "Accolades" looking to do optionals for accolade purposes (for some reason they are more motivated to complete optionals from that channel than in EliteSTF).

I support EliteSTF and still use it regularly, but Alecto does have a point in regards to PR to keep the channel alive far into the future.

To be honest, I have no idea where they should be going.

Many times I have been asked if there is a Vault specific channel and the only answer I can give is "I don't know".

I always assumed RedAlert was specifically for Red Alerts, so I never knew that they handled vaults as well.

If anyone knows a dedicated Vault channel, let me know so I can direct them there instead.

As I did not witness said incident, I cannot speak as to the severity of it.
But the last time this happened, I couldn't get a word in edgewise to tell them to stop.
And neither could the players trying to team!

So, channel muting is an ultimate last resort, if they refuse to listen to the warnings, I'm forced to use it in order to get their attention.
Mainly because only admins and operators can use the channel when it's player muted and our messages aren't being drowned in a sea of spam.

The EliteSTF Channel has been great, I am very happy to be a member of this channel. When I first joined the channel there was about 1000 members, STF teams were perfect. The success rate was about 99%, Then the channel started to really grow and the success rate started to fall and vault and/or non STF events where starting to take over the channel.

At this time the Channel Admins started to take back control of channel whos quality was degrading. Muting the channel when alot of users are violating the channel rules was and is a good idea. When your mother slaps you up side the for doing something wrong you don't do it again. Well the only way the channel admins can do that is muting individuals or the entire channel when multiple users are violating the rules.

Some developer can't remember the name, knows that muting users is a effective tool, you talk in zone and you could possibly be muted.

STF Success rate due to the channel was falling, but because the way the admins have taken back control of the channel the success rate is starting to get better.

I would like to thank all the EliteSTF Channel Admins for managing the channel. Keep up the good work.

p.s. Muting the channel during the entire Vault event was a good idea, it slapped people up side the head and basically said after multiple warnings "Don't spam the EliteSTF channel with the vault event"

    Hi,

Tilarta, please feel free to check out the REDALERT channel thread "REDALERT (Global Channel for info on all EVENT CONTENT)..." which is dedicated to EVENTS, and the Vault shuttle event is an event, hence that is the dedicated channel for teaming for the Vault, Mirror Universe, Defera Invasion, No Win Scenario, Colony Invasion and Borg space encounters that pop up as well as every other events including those hosted by PWE_BranFlakes.

Much like EliteSTF is also for normal STFs, REDALERT is simply what I thought was a cool name for the channel when I created it back in Sep 2011.

P.S. If you folks ever decide to make EliteSTF public again let me know so that I can once again spread the word and the channel can also get back on STOwiki, as they don't allow private channels on STOwiki.

If you can successfully and more importantly fairly moderate the channel, then there's no reason to keep it private, unless you have no further intentions of allowing the channel to be used publicly of course. On that note, anyone heard from Nikita the passed couple of months?

Lastly muting a channel is great for a show of power, but for any longer than 5 minutes and it negates the use of the channel.

Unfortunately, in the immediate future, there are no plans to make it a public channel again.

We did it exactly twice in the recent past and well, our gesture of trust was abused.
I won't name the players, but let's suffice it to say, there are certain people who have been kicked out of the channel for starting flamewars and the second the channel was in public mode, they rejoined and started the war again.

So, we're not very trusting at the moment, sad to say.

And yes, I saw Nikita online a couple of days ago.
She didn't stay long, but she did say hello.

As for the period of muting, normally i do it for around 10 minutes if it's needed, basically, it's just to give me time to record those people who broke the rules.

I've only done the event muting once, when the channel was really out of control.
I hope I don't have to do it again!

As an operator on EliteSTF, I must agree with my admin. The private status of the channel is needed to control those who prefer trolling and griefing to using the channel as it was intended to be used. I can name names at this point but I won't. The simple fact of the matter is that a few bad apples ruin the channel if we make it public. I was there for it. I saw us go private and how it worked. I saw us try the public option again and watched as the trolls tried to ruin us again. I advocated for the return to private status. I still advocate it. It's the only thing that gives our admin options teeth without having to mute the entire channel. Of course muting one person is permanent due to a bug. Kicking is useless if the channel is public. So respectfully, Alecto, I'd ask that you fix the bugs on chat channels and give the operators the options needed to effectively keep the channel rules enforced.

EDIT: Just because we choose not to name names doesn't mean we don't know who you are.

    Oh come on seriously? LoL

I'm a volunteer who doesn't get any benefits for being a community moderator, I don't even live in the US to have access to the Cryptic Studios or PW office. Submit a bug report as I have done and/or attempt to contact the QA team via the various means that are available to you. :)

P.S. I'm one man, and successfully moderate the biggest chat channel in game which is public, it's had it's ups and downs but my point being you seem to have quit very easily, and given up on that option all together without really trying.

Lastly I just want you to know that I appreciate all that you've done and that I'm just giving you my straight forward opinion, though I've said all I can on the matter, there's not much else to discuss. :)

I'm sorry I thought you were a dev. My bad. However, the fact is still facts. I'm not on your channel and I have no idea what goes on there. I'm glad you are able to moderate it effectively. My channel is also moderated effectively using the methods we have already described. Now while our methods differ, the results are essentially the same. EliteSTF is a well run channel with some of the best STF'ers in the game. We accomplished this by enforcing rules and ensuring those who would troll my beloved channel are removed permanently. Draconian? possibly. Tyrannical? Why not! And I'm sure some of the reject ill just eat that up. But the majority of the channel members love us and love being there. And we love them.

Don't make me have to come down heavier with this rule.

People keep using the a word for teaming that women have 2 of. I'm not going to repeat the word, but I think you know what i mean.

    This is not allowed!

And I don't want to hear counter-arguments, such as "it's not profanity" and "it's a bird".
Because I'm very certain you're not thinking of web-footed water birds when you're using these words!

It's against the rules and we've said so, that's the end of the matter.
    Debate won't get you anywhere.

And if you throw insults at us, well, you know by now what that gets you......

Well, I was thinking of asking to join this channel, but now I am not so sure as it sounds like the very thing I am trying to get away from. Perhaps someone not involved in what appears to be a playground brawl between groups for kids tell me if this channel is actually useful. I just want ot get in, do the STFs and move on. No offense, but I could care less about dueling drama queens or who "rules" a chat channel. I don't know the backstory regarding the heavyhanded moderation or the idiotic troll that seems to make it necessary and I don't want to know.

And if my post disqualifies me from being a member, that's okay too....

No idea there was/is drama let alone what it is all about and to be frank, I don't care. To me the channel is a means to an end, I use it to get grouped in an STF and avoid PUG queues.

When I want or need a group, I'll switch to a tab with EliteSTF active in my chat box and do a "LFG" or I'll watch and see if any groups are forming, once I get an stf group, I switch to a tab for team chat, I never notice much drama there because I only use it for STFs.

I have had loads of really good runs from ESTF groupings and for that purpose it is a really good channel.

No, it does not disqualify you from being a member.

Basically, the only things that can are breaking the rules when warned more then once or intentionally picking a fight with anyone in the channel.

    Er, not, it's not ducks.

I really can't use the word, but someone tried to convince me that's what he meant.
    I didn't believe him!
If you're generally curious, type blue footed birds into google and it will bring up the name of the bird in question.

Unfortunately, this is the place I've been dragged down to.

When i saw you using that word, I mistook it for an impolite comment.

Certain players are "testing the limits", seeing how much they can get away with and I made the incorrect assumption you were one of them.

    Sorry about that.

what's the issue with need/greed on loot lately
there was no rule set by the team former regarding the loot policy and yet, mid match I've received comments regarding me choosing need on everything

to my understanding, and as far as it was explained to me, greed has lower outcome than need, why .. that's not for me to understand but for Cryptic to sort it out

also, if U chose greed it means that you don't really care about that item, so .. why the "hate"

The hate is because the need function is intended to be used only when someone really needs an item. It is good to have such an option. Otherwise, you have to ask the player who got what you wanted, to sell it to you (mostly the price is a few thousands of k) complicating things. When you just want every drop to sell them for their meager EC value, you are actually being greedy. We all are greedy. Hence, choosing greed I say: I am just as greedy as yourself, let us have equal chances, let the RNG gods decide. This is a beautiful agreement between two or more greedy people. Now, the system is designed to work this way. By choosing greed, I allow may teammates and myself a chance to have a go at a potential drop I really need. If I choose need all the time, I disregard this, and if this has not been agreed on in the beginning, than I am abusing the rules, because I abuse the trust of other people, getting an unfair advantage abusing the need tops greed mechanism. Hence, going all need or greed has to be decided in the beginning of the match. Anyone who just ventures in needing everything without asking first if that's all right, will recieve harsh comments from his teammates, and as I understood, violates the chat rules of EliteSTF channel.

I simply do not understand the existence of "greed" just because it does exactly the same thing when all chose need, meaning the chances are the same when all need or all greed, correct!?
when someone chose need and other greed, the greed will equal as pass, correct!? so, why the existence of "greed" in the 1st place

as for wanting an item that someone else got instead of you, there's always the Exchange, of course with the exception of BORG stuff

I do need on everything because I need the ECs from selling the items, not the need for the items themselves
everyone playing this game wants to have very rare/purple mkXI and ultimately mkXII consoles, right? so how do I get there if I'm a loose hand
