I've seen a lot of negative between players over the stupidest of reasons on this channel. I'm glad to see it finally being moderated. Please sticky this so these rules don't get misplaced by over posting. I hope to see more of what happened on ESTF today. I hope this stops the childish bs that has plagued this channel.

Please Sticky Thread..

Can we include calling our peoples global names to ignore into the Griefing.. this can be and has been abused...

Can you also list rules on Need/Greed/Pass?

Can you also place this thread in the channel MOTD along with the message.. "Ignorance of the Rules are no Excuse"

I made a shorter URL because of the limited space http://tinyurl.com/ESTFRules

Thank you for making this post.

Congratulations. You're doing a very good job at killing off EliteSTF as a viable way to group up with people to have some fun.

Ill say it again, there is only one thing in the channel that causes *any* disruption at all: the moderators. If you just sat back and didnt have a temper tantrum when people didnt follow a bunch of unnecessary rules, there would never be any problems.

People advertising for Vault or CE groups never impeded STF's forming. Muting the entire channel for hours at a time when you cant have your way does.

Oh, and by the way, just in case someone tries to get tetchy: no, Ive never looked for vault groups. Ive only ever done it once, and never will again. I think its a waste of time and a very poor idea (gating content, etc).

Ya that is kind of really lame. The vault is a 5 man and grouping in there should not be a problem. I, personally, think some people just have issues.

i for one agree with this because its a pain in the you know what when someone crosses a trigger line early in IGE and then beams out leaving 4 behind to finish, that's just one instance i have experienced recently and its annoying when your trying to get optional.. we finished that IGE but took allot longer to do..

I think these rules are needed. Alot of trolls have been plaguing the channel, and it's very frusterating to have a player Need on everything, or quit halfway through, You'd be better off PUG'ing..

For the Vaulter's, there's an EliteSTF_vault channel, and for those new there's an STF channel to help, STFrecruits

Extract from today's session on Need/Greeding:

Need ONLY on Borg Salvage and Encrypted Data Chips.

Greed or Pass on ALL other items.

However, invididual negotiation with the team is permissable.

If you really need an item, Needing is acceptable.
But it's polite to ask first.
A good team should be okay with you claiming an item you really need.

However, 100% needing is not acceptable!

Highlighted in red what I want to talk about...

Just a suggestion for you, why not simply tell players to use the "REDALERT (Global Channel for info on all EVENT CONTENT)..." for Vault and CE recruiting, after all, that's what my channel is for.

I wont tell you NOT to use your channel for events, you can do that by all means, but I always thought that the EliteSTF channel was created for STFs (both normal and Elite) to find teams and discuss tactics, not for any other purpose.

Perhaps if someone had established a few straight forward and simple rules from the beginning there would not be as much drama as there's now, but what's done is done I suppose. I never asked for "Operator" privileges for this channel by the way, it was just given to me months ago and no one even told me.

I've never* moderated in this channel, simply because I never knew what the rules were, no one ever told me what to moderate so I left it be.

*I did moderate once a couple of nights ago for the first time when someone said something extremely disrespectful but that was a one off.

You may have seen me in REDALERT chat copy the following statement in game whenever someone breaks my rules:
This channel is for discussion on all EVENT content on the Live server (Holodeck), please do not be rude, insult others, spam, troll or go off topic, thank you.

Simple, precise, polite and effective, allowing people to find out what the rules are. My point being that a lot of those rules you are using could be cut out and replaced by simply saying "Do not go off-topic"...

P.S. I don't think the channel will get a sticky with all the drama going on or if it's kept private (restricted to invites only) or if the rules are to strict, so you'll have to change the channels reputation from negative to positive, and community moderators can sticky threads but can't make the decision to sticky a thread, basically it's not up to me.

Also put up a link to http://www.stowiki.org/Global_Channel_Directory in your OP.

Lastly please tell players NOT to PM me asking for invites to EliteSTF, I've already received a dozen or so requests, alternatively just remove my name from the OP.

You've clearly been looking at a different channel to me. Most disruption is caused when person X decides to point out that person Y that they were in a group with didn't do the STF properly (sometimes validly, sometimes not) and Y decides to dispute it with them publically in the channel and you get a "NO U!!!" type argument.

I would also think it needs to be said that if someone is forming a group they should be prepared to lead it, and people joining it should be prepared to follow their instructions. You can leave in the lobby if the team leader is suggesting a method you're not comfortable with.

Some mutual channel users already know I made this chat invis because of the drama. I agree the channel needs rules. And it does need moderation. Hopefully with the enforcement of rules and the setting of standards to get a better player group in place, I might be able to stomache getting STF groups from this channel again.

However i also agree with Alecto. I used his REDALERT channel a few months ago when seeking red alerts (I actually had a misunderstanding with him once almost because I did not know he was a mod and thought he was just someone being an ***. LOL Sorry Alecto. I still feel stupid about that one). When he spams that rule line he quoted in his reply - it gets the point across. It does so quickly and efficiently. ONCE in a GREAT while someone stays a pain in the *** and challanges him about it. They get muted very fast. Again - effective.

So on 2 sides of a fence here, I favor and support the mods enforcing rules, but also vote for Alecto's method of making the channel aware of it.

P.S. - When i heard today that the channel was private and invite only, I went to my chat settings and made it visible again. Keep it invite only - as with another channel i am a member of i hope this helps to raise the quality filter of STF teams we are seeking. If i am doing Elite STFs and i request in chat for such an STF, I like the thought that quality, competant players will be who enter my match. I get this in the other channel and I hope to start doing so here as well. options are good.

P.P.S. - do NOT message me asking for the name of the other channel. I absolutely refuse to "promote" channels that would compete against other channels I am a member of. I mention another channel in general just for a comparison point for my view on this discussion.

One last note . . . TRIBBLE the spell check. I am tired and know there are 50,000 typos here. I'll correct this post later today. In the meantime, apologies for a tired man typing.

Awwww I quite liked making people say silly things to join a match, but I guess I can restrain myself.
All the rules look pretty reasonable to me.
Only thing I'd add is a request not to be too harsh when enforcing the rules. . . . only kick if the person is being a real A-Hole.

One last thing:
I get a bit sick of is the number of people posting "LF insert STF of choice"
FFS it is not hard to make your own instance. . . I worked out how to do it on my 3rd game with the channel and after asking a quick question about how to add ppl.
If you want to run a particular STF then set one going!! Don't just spame "LF CSE" every minute or so.

Here's a quick guide from memory to help (might be a bit off but gist is right).
- Navigate to screen where you join PuG STF's, basically the list of all PvE Fleet actions.
- At the top you will see "Create private match" or similar, click this.
- Pick which one you want to do and click "create"
- You will have to give it a name, doesn't matter what you call it, I usually just call it the abbreviation for the STF followed by the inv. phrase eg "KASE: fluffy"
- Don't bother giving it a PW
- Hit Ok
- Your game will be created, match window will appear.
- Send out your invite on channel.
- To invite people when they respond click their name in the chat window followed by "Invite to Challenge Match"
- Once full and everyone is happy click start.
- All done

Due to a bug in the channel code for large groups, I am unable to unmute other players.

Please direct such queries to the Operators, they have a Higher chance of fixing it then I do, because sometimes the bug does not affect them.

And I will be reviewing this topic with Cryptic Technical Support.

Oh Hai Thar!

How nice to find this thread due to a search on forums on "@comptola".
And only from yesterday, too. Great.
I'm most pleased to be amongst your first victims.

So it's not that comptola is a humourless hack, it's that he's strictly following your rules of "KILL ALL FUN AND DESTROY THE CHANNEL CAPS!!!111111".

My guess is that a lot of people are going to be booted and at around the cut mark you'd start pulling back on the bootings because you'll end up realizing what so many in such games have realized before: you have not the population to maintain a jackass totalitarian regime when the game is low on population and competition on head-count is high.

What's the cut-mark? When the channel is mostly dead (as it was yesterday, now I begin to understand WHY) or full of suck *** newbies (since you have no policy to weed those out and that explains the recent increased stream of mongs I've had the misfortune to plow through onto my ignore.txt) who can't play and lame around the channel and you've dropped to half of your previous capacita.

So, have fun ruining the quality of the channel. After so many months of asking for the booting of muttons who can't play STF worth a dime you've instead gotten around to kicking the elites who came to play at the elite level bracket (because, you know, channel's name is EliteSTF, go figure...).

I'm going on a guess here that all the channel mods are your fleetmates, too?

Time to start a new channel I guess (ironically, due to all the newbie infiltrators onto the channel, I've begun a while ago engaging in just that, cropping the top of the elite who dominate their field and carry massive DPS onto a new channel).

Post Scriptum:
It's (the consensus) Need on Mk XIIs and Prototypes, Greed on the rest. Incase you didn't know.
Also, it might not be the best of ideas to take a channel by brute force and land harsh on people without giving them fair ample advance notice and easing them in instead. But GG with that.

Although, honestly, we could as well just go need on everything, since it wouldn't matter mechanically. No one really "need" something more than the rest in Elite STF (although it's a good indicator for newbies and selfish jerks you'd want to weed out, which is why we keep using it).

Post-Post Scriptum:
"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"
(Because, while you might be humourless, it's a fine trait of the human species that I intend to celebrate forth.)

A visage of the new STF funny channel in all its glory. Where a mod/his tyrant landlord's rules can't stand someone making fun of them for going off on someone who got a bit hyper and used caps, twice (OMG! NOT TWICE!!! BURN THE WITCH!!!!) with some additional testimonies (of whom shall remain nameless to hide their identity from retribution by grumpy TRIBBLE chan mods).
BEHOLD AND DESPAIR!

Every team i have ever gone with has had the policy of ONLY needing on salvage and EDC. Greed on the rest - even Mk XII. mk XII is so bloody common now that it's considered vendor trash to any decent group.

To the mods of the channel:

I wish to make a recommendation to the mods of the channel - in addition to the invite only status. Just making the channel invite only will not clear out issues with bad teams and bad people. I'd recommend doing what other channels are already doing with GREAT success . . . if someone wants in your channel, they need to team up with whoever recruits/invites for the channel. Not just one run, but at least 5 or 6 runs to get a feel for their gameplay and attitude. If they pass the mod's quality test for being an actual team player who can listen to instruction and be a part of a team, THEN they get an invite.

It makes sense, because it is NOT about numbers . . . it is about quality. I'd rather be in a channel that has 5-10 quality players than a channel that has 1,000 rage quitters who quit for every reason known to mankind.

I omitted "purple".
It is the case that at times there are very good purple mk XII that are quite useful, in particular for PvP gear.
It's also good for giving alts a good headstart until they're fully geared.

ROFL.
The only ones who can invite in that channel are their mods, who are their fleet mates. All hailing from the notorious fail fleet of Clan Hunters.
Why would I, or anyone, waste my time running a single elite STF with them?

I rarely talk in my STFs, neither do my teammates. I usually just listen to shoutcasts and tune everything out.
No communication is required or necessary when people know how to perform.
Most people are hanging on their respective fleets' TS3, anyway, rather than use game chat.
