Edit. ps. Sardoc, polaron with Jem'hadar set is good dps, but i would advise against it in elite stfs. Issue is the plasma dmg coming from enemies, and JH shields have only 10% resistence to all. Best shield is maco for feds, as its same as jh 10% + 20% to plasma. Best setup imho is maco shield + omega engine, deflector for glider, but only if you have the skill that increase its strength, if not and you dont want to respec best setup i found out is: maco shield + deflector + retro borg engine + assimilated console. You get nice 2set bonuses from both maco and retro borg setcand maco shields are great against borgs. I can tank tac cube in elite from 20 sec to max 1.5 minutes depending if reverse shield polarity was up when i started tanking (i have 2 of those for 1 rsp each minute).
Ok, I can see this... but since the +7.6% Polaron boost is the 2 set piece, anything wrong with maco shield + jh engine/deflector? That way you get the damage boost, as well as the awesome shields... still missing out on the borg survivability set bonuses, but I dont see a need for those, dont die often as is in STFs, even without the MACO shields...
I keep my 7 beam weps out on the HUD in the bottom right corner so I know when i'm broadsiding with all firing. All 7 fire for me. So i dunno man they must have changed it.
Well it's not that they 'don't fire', but rather they only cycle so fast.
Once you have 6 beams cycling, and you add another beam or two, they cycle at the same rate.
So the 7 and 8 beams actually wait for thier turn and you're overall firing cycle is the same as 6 beams.
At least this was the 'mechanics' some time back. I havn't done any 'testing' lately.
This is the build I use and it has done well for me so far, will parse a log someday this week when I'm on good internets and do moar elites. It is not 100% optimized for escort DPS though as I get bored and like to fly multiple ship types.
I didn't bother maxing Specialization because it only grants an additional .3% crit and 3.8% crit multiplier which is sad but you can easily take 3 out of weapon or aux performance to do so. Ref: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=247338
As far as weapon power at 6 ranks warp core potential you gain about 4 extra power, At 3 ranks of potential you get 5, at 6 gain 8, at 9 gain 10 roughly. Add in borg console of +5. So with 6 in potential you really only need 1 in performance with the borg console but there is some...debate...about weapon power *see below* and you can always put the extra in other places.
As for gear I'm running 3 DHCs + Quantium Torp in front, 3 Turrets rear all disruptor (Wish I went with AP though *see below*). Maco Shield & Deflector mk 10 with borg engines (for 2 piece proc). 1 Resist all console, 1 Resist Kinetic, and 1 Resist Plasma + Tetryon (cant remember names) in Eng slots.
When I stay ontop of a borg tac cube to avoid torps and rotate my tank abilities properly I can do a sustained tank of atleast 2 minutes (long enough for it to die in a good PuG) before it kills me unless something strange happens (1 shots). By proper rotation of tank abilities that means only having 1 hull resist skill up at a time. I can solo a cube without any fear of dying as well.
Projectile Doffs are great for a DPS boost, and the conn officier doffs that reduce tac team cooldown are great to free up an extra tac slot. I also run 90 weapon/60 shield power setting which with my build ends up giving 124 weapon power which is good enough for me.
One thing for everyone to keep in mind during parse though, your focus will have a huge impact on your DPS output. If you are protecting the Kang, or killing probes in KA your DPS will naturally be lower than the guy who gets to just bash on unshielded, unmoving targets, so keep that in mind when you examine your DPS.
*Weapon Power: There are claims that there is an overflow of weapon power above 125 (up to 135) that is not displayed nor used but that keeps your power higher when firing more weapons increasing DPS on weapons fired later in the cycle. I have personally tested this by observing how low my weapon power drains and have concluded this is false, however I have not parsed it in several combats so I cannot be 100% sure.
*Disruptors: These reduce an enemies resistance by 10% when they proc, but in my experiance most borg that have high HP (gateways/etc) do not have much resist to begin with. To see this simply watch your combat log with attack pattern beta on one of them and you will see something like "Weapon deals 1800 (1200) damage" that means it dealt 1200 as a base but was increased to 1800 because the target has a negative resistance. Disruptor procs do not add 10% damage when they proc because they modify a modifier I belive and might even lower your damage depending on how they may interact with negative resists but I have no clue.
How do you feel all torp builds factor in against your build? Even if dps is less how much less? Is it viable as a change of pace? Ok I know its viable but I have no idea how it compares. If you have time could you test and post comparison numbers?
Something like Torp spread III x2. Either x4 Quantums or x4 Plasma (Proc now stacks and 100% hit chance so bypass those shields). Along with the projectile skills, x3 purple Doffs for faster fire rate and the projectile Boff crit chance if possible.
Anyway thanks for posting your info.
EDIT: Plus the borg proc on torps is 100% chance for 1000 damage per hit.
I startet playing this game with my first character at F2P launch.. its a tactical gal in a fleet escort and i do 9k dps witch my polaron beems using 3 beam infront and 2 beam in the back .. a harg peng torp and a plasma torp...using assimilated consoles and 4 polaron enhancers...all my weaponry is mkx - mkxi ...
you dont need a tool to increase your dps.. you just need common sense..
surely this tool will be great for al the lamers and / or statwh*r*s but that doesent makes people smarter...
the tactical DPS build is teh easiest in this game since u only need to select things that make u more dmg and some defense...
I see only a problemwith all the... guys in elite STFs henu run them in a random team.. peopel dont read the team chat and making a rambo style run and wonder why they die when they dont use regenerators..
and when u tell hem to listen what u have to say they DONT EVEN READ THE CHAT.... i would love to see a tool that gives people a brain...
oh and dont tell me to join a STF fleet or go on voice chat... im doing this STFs only because i neeed the armor for my roleplay... i would buy it from teh cstore but it is not possible... i spend so much tem in getting teh honorguard set that i cant roleplay anymore.. i find it kinda sucks...
now when people see that thread / tool they will start doing a new class .. tactical for sure and everyone wil run an escort..
i noticed it before that there were alot of tacs playing this game .. but a DPS tool / Thread wil only increase that...
also crytpic should make a tutorial mission where the STF is explained.. and only if people get this done they can participate in regular stfs.. really..
soem peopel act liek they have no brain.. walking into radioactive water... OR runnign into teh borg boss when already 3 people left.. attacking him ...and then wonder why i sit down and enjoy the show..

This is something I promise to research and then get back to everyone. However, even with that diminishing return, I still average 6k - 8k DPS (with correlating highest damage done) in elite STF's so it can be that huge of an issue. It is still good to know. Thank you for the input in our thinktank :-).

I remember when I was running 3DHC + 3 turrets and 1 Quantum /w 2 TSIII on my BO. It was badass 2 see 20 torps spread out and cream unshielded targets. It was almost cool enough for me to respec to a ALL torp build. However, it was sad when they would fly and and do nothing to shielded targets :-(
Now an all torp build would be effective in a single situation. Where your team make up is comprised of shield strippers and your always only targeting one or two enemies and hitting them with your torps on the sides their shields are down.
But ask yourself, how often does this happen in a elite STF? Never, and most of the time your fighting multiple enemies with shields up. A ALL TORP BUILD WILL NOT WORK but it will definitely look cool firing a million torps. Lol. As for actual DPS averages and TOTdamage done I don't know. But it's just so theoretically unsound I can give you a 99.9% answer, NO it wont work. :-(

Overall your build looks solid and it definitely gave me some ideas to increase defense /w my own build. I bet your a beast on single target DPS, I used to run that same build and enjoyed it a lot. But I like broadsiding much more! haha
1. I would still get a second tac team, even with the doff buffs you will see a good DPS/Damage increase running 2 tac's as long as you are synergyzing them with your burst damage cannon skills. (but test it out all the same)
2. ************** I CANNOT STRESS THIS ONE FACT ENOUGH TO THE POINT I AM ABOUT TO MAKE A NEW THREAD ON IT.
a) During the Kang stage a single Tac should always solo a side. Take out nanites, watching for the BoP's and KILLING THEM AS THEY SPAWN. ************Noone should need to sit by the Kang killing BoP's. Ex: Let's say I join the Elite STF, my team is 2 Tac escorts 1 sci and 1 cruiser and 1 engy. I will solo left side killing nanites WHILE killing the BoP's. A BoP should NEVER even get CLOSE to the kang. The other tac will go middle soloing it as well. And the 3 remaining will take right side. If this is executed properly within 3 mins each cube should be down to 10% for the team burn to take place.
^ This is why I usually get optional in pugs
b) During KA a high damage Tac Escort should solo the right side. Killing the probes as they spawn and most importantly A TAC ESCORT BUILT CORRECTLY CAN SOLO THE CUBES. On KA i will go right, kill the first probe spawn, kill 2 nanites furthest 2 gate and then solo the cube popping all CD's. After I kill the next probe spawn, and finish the nanites on far side while APA and FomyMark get off CD. Kill 1 more probe group then kill the 2 nanite gens, SOLO THE CUBE RIGHT AFTER THE 3rd probe group spawns. That way if you do ACCIDENTLY DIE, you have time to fly back, kill probes and finish the cube. I WILL USUALLY HAVE BOTH SIDES CUBES DOWN AND ALL NANITES DOWN WHILE PROTECTING THE GATE BY THE TIME MY TEAM FINISHES THEIR SIDE.
^ this is why I usually get optional in pugs
3. This is interesting I will do my best to figure this out as well.
4. Yea i dunno if that actually works that way. Something I will look into to.

The Borg proc means you auto do more 1000 damage per shot to hull per torpedo so I was thnking with a 1 sec fire rate thats a lot of damage. Then you add bleed though on top of that and perhaps plasma and you should easily be doing 2000+ damage per torpedo to hull even with shields up. Plus many targets in STF do not have shields.
A whole team fitted like that and you could surly take down the cubes real fast.

1. You tell us you don't use a DPS meter then you say you do 9k DPS, which is obviously a lie, or you ran the DPS meter while attacking a squirrel instead calculating your average DPS over multiple Elite STF runs.
2. You do need a DPS tool, because your common sense is wrong. As we can already see.
3. I thought I made it abundantly clear that STO has done a good job giving everyone the ability to have around the same possible maximum damage. It's a matter of reading the DPS meter correctly. For example I run with a fleet member who has a carrier and although it says he does 2k DPS, if you calculate the damage his BoP's and shield drainers do hes at 6-7k dps. The same applies to Engies and Sci's. ANY CLASS CAN DO 6-9K DPS in elite STF's if played properly, specced properly, build properly, BO'ed properly, and decent team makeups.
4. I almost always get the optional in Elite STF's PUG's and you obviously don't. Stop blaming others and blame yourself.
5. Here's the Salvation challenge. Let's run a Elite STF together and I bet you 10 mil energy credits you probably do less than 4k DPS and/or YOUR the one TRIBBLE up the mechanics.

also i KNOW that there are more noobs in STFS ( random teams ) than pros.. i dont knowwho you think you are but watch your tounge when u speak with me.. i didnt attack your verbally .. but you did... i just said i dont needa dps meter and that there are many noobs out there...
my screenshots prooves my damage ... also ive fougth someone who uses the dps meter and is good at STFs but in PvP he / she got vansihed of my beams...
and again i dont know why you are that hostile against me.. i didnt attack you...
PS. there are some PRO-STFers and noone mentioned you ever...
That PROs have admited that STF sucks without a good team... .. YOU blame ME and call me a weak thing ?? i said my stfs fail because of NOOBS in my team .. noobs that actually dotn use chat to hear the plan .. most people dont even know what todo in STFs and YOU BLAME ME?
For me this discussion is ended at the point where you insulted me... YOU never have seen me playing .. so shut your lie-slit .. ..
Youre just mad because i atleast dont crawl in your *** saying: "ohh thats awesome ohh coool.. bla bla whatever"...
I do enough DPS to beat my enemies....
what you do is tryign to get people to be statwh*r*s...

That screenshot does not prove your damage, it proves you are wrong. Thats 9k dps for 1 shot for 1 weapon. Not 9dps over time. If you factor in all yours shots or look at your damage over say 60seconds then your DPS drops well below 9k.
I think you are confusing burst damage and DPS. Your burst damage is at 9k dps but burst damage is not sustainable damage which is what most people mean by DPS.
No, that doesn't prove her wrong - it states quite clearly 9,970 DPS. Does it matter that the average DPS over 60 seconds may be lower than 9K? Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on how you count and bear in mind that PvP is a different animal than STF's. In STF's you know exactly what to do, what the enemies will be and where they're coming from. There is no such luxury in PvP.
What I am certain of is that burst is enough to send someone to 12 second Purgatory if they're caught with their pants down.

******* Ps ill pvp you anytime and anywhere and ill win.
*********** reverse shield polarity and you lose.
But I can tell you right now, that it is not just the DPS that sucks from most people, its the healing as well, I have just ran 4 ESTF's and each one had at atleast 4 cruisers. I'm kicking out about 1million healing or about 1200 a seconds, the 2nd place healer is 300k at about 380 a second,
P.S I;m only running standard cruiser heals, ET2/ST2/HE1/A2SiF3, so nothing totally wild.
Actually, the DPS listed in a tooltip doesn't really translate into real time DPS that you are putting out. The tooltip lists the raw damage/DPS without any mitigating factors. It may not be a huge issue in PVE, but in PVP, players will have resists and defense bonuses which will reduce the ACTUAL amount of damage you are doing. Also, the tooltip doesn't take into account hits and misses. Obviously, the more misses you have, the smaller your actual DPS will be no matter what the tool tip says. And the tool tip can't take into account your playstyle. Your dual heavy cannons may list a high DPS in the tool tip, but it does no good if you can't keep your target within your firing arc. Theses are just a few examples. There are so many factors that go into how much DPS you actually do, the only real way to tell is to look after the fact and see.
Great little program that. Although as a warning it doesnt count all damage as damage. I do a large amount of DPS via mines yet they are not added into my damage numbers. It seems to me in real PvP the average dps is only about 1000dps give or take a little for the highest pilots in an average match.
EDIT: I think any object that can be shot down is not added. So no high yield plasma or tircoblats.
This has turned out to be a really good read for the most part.
I now feel the need to drop my dual Beam bank and add a 3rd Mk xii Borg antiproton DHC to the Fore of my Defiant.
Im also wondering if it might be beneficial to drop my Quantum Torp and go with a Photon Torp instead.
The reasoning behind the torpedo change would be Ill be getting a heck of a lot more Photon shots off than with my Quantum.
Slot the Best quality Projectile Doffs I can get and further boost the firing time of the Photon Torp.
Im thinking that more shots might equal more damage in the long run.
In regards to dropping the DBB, that could net you a loss of DPS, due to the Ens BO slot that is wasted.
WIth only 1 Launcher, Projectile Doffs are not that usefull, but with loads of launchers they become invaluable, You are prolly better off with ET and ST doffs to kick out ALOT more healing.

-It does, but it won't count it under your name (sometimes). It will say EX: Photonic mines 540 dps total damage done: 450,000 SO YOU JUST ADD IT TO YOUR TOTAL DPS AND DIVIDE BY TIME.

- It also counts misses, ie: you dont do damage so theres nothing to count...
-Not sure why or how you came to your assumptions... do you use the parser?

Actually, only do that if you know you are the only person using those type of mines... two people using the same mine type will have that damage added together, so dont really want to just add it... (besides, who uses mines? :P)
In any case, thanks to this thread, i upped my DPS to almost 5k consistently... probably the best I can do on my science captain, but better than the <3k i was getting before

Well I admit it was late last night so I might be mistaken, will test again today. As for how I came to that I did a PvP match last night as I wanted to compare my torpedo boat against other PvP setups. I came to the conclusion as Parser showed my DPS as less than the PvP damage screen and under my name mines and destroyable torpedoes did not show. I had no way to tell which destroyable objects belong to me or someone else. Plus it did not stack up the mines, but instead placed them all as single objects. Which is a same as I deal large amount of damage with mines.
I decided to give in to the curiosity and check it out but the only place that it seems to have been available from has either lost it or deliberately taken it down.
Edit: Never mind, pretty sure I found one that will work.
would be great if one of you heavy dps players (6k+) could make a video from an elite stf, to see the playstyle. Also do some comments during video like: when and why you do sth in a specific situation, please.
For comparison reason it would be helpfull if you additionally post your equip, including quality of items.
I would also like to know what DOFFs you use? (for torpedo build and without torpedos).
Hmm, knowing that someone has tested the numbers makes me more inclined to try a beam build (so far I have five alts running the standard DHC/Torp builds).
However, I am concerned that the raw DPS numbers for beam builds are significantly higher than your effective DPS:
1) If most of your damage is coming from FAW, then most of those FAW shots could be wasted (e.g. hitting a cube when there are still nanites up)
2) I'm also concerned that if your combat style consists of running circles around your target instead of point-and-shoot (alternating between creeping forward and backpedalling), then you're basically going to have to go through all four shield facings instead of just one. This concern could become moot if the Borg become more like that D'direx Defender, though.
Anyway, if this beam build turns out to be a mistake I'm going to be down 400c and a lot of dilithium.

Much like Corgatag, this thread has enticed me to try a beam boat build. Before I sink the resources I need Sharpphasor's explanation on the Boff skills used and their rotations; the required Doffs for this build to be viable, some dogfighting tips to maintain DPS and an affirmitave answer on the question of the 6 or 8 beam issue

EDIT: Plus the borg proc on torps is 100% chance for 1000 damage per hit.
you dont need a tool to increase your dps.. you just need common sense..
surely this tool will be great for al the lamers and / or statwh*r*s but that doesent makes people smarter...
the tactical DPS build is teh easiest in this game since u only need to select things that make u more dmg and some defense...
OR runnign into teh borg boss when already 3 people left.. attacking him ...and then wonder why i sit down and enjoy the show..
thanks for the post of this thread but anyways

4. Disruptor procs do not add 10% damage when they proc because they modify a modifier I belive and might even lower your damage depending on how they may interact with negative resists but I have no clue.[/QUOTE]

Hey thanks for the info,
Overall your build looks solid and it definitely gave me some ideas to increase defense /w my own build.

5. Aha yeah i heard that often and when they PvP me they loose.. haha challenge me ingame il beat you ...
also i KNOW that there are more noobs in STFS ( random teams ) than pros.. i dont knowwho you think you are but watch your tounge when u speak with me.. i didnt attack your verbally .. but you did... i just said i dont needa dps meter and that there are many noobs out there...
my screenshots prooves my damage ... also ive fougth someone who uses the dps meter and is good at STFs but in PvP he / she got vansihed of my beams...
and again i dont know why you are that hostile against me.. i didnt attack you...
PS. there are some PRO-STFers and noone mentioned you ever...
Cryptic didnt designed this game to make it a next counterstrike...
The game has a backstory , and a big piece of roleplayers stuff... ist still a mmorpg my friend... maybe you should use google ...this game wasnt made to make people comapare their size of **** ... there is no contest .. but guys like you come to such games and destroy it...
go play counterstrike.. really.. if u want BOOMHEADSHOTS i wondre why u play a complex game with a nice story like this...
waste of account...
I think you are confusing burst damage and DPS. Your burst damage is at 9k dps but burst damage is not sustainable damage which is what most people mean by DPS.
What I am certain of is that burst is enough to send someone to 12 second Purgatory if they're caught with their pants down.
This is what you show to prove your DPS.
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/6987/salvationeliteinfected.png <--- this is the only way to count damage done and DPS. Not a silly screen shot of your weapon with beam overload.
^ This is on an infected elite (of course we got optional) but you can see total damage over total amount of time. You keep proving you have no idea what your talking about. As well that you REALLY need to listen to me and the other people that actually understand this forum post.
******* Ps ill pvp you anytime and anywhere and ill win.
*********** reverse shield polarity and you lose.
What you really need to do is quit assuming that other people don't understand statistics.
EDIT: I think any object that can be shot down is not added. So no high yield plasma or tircoblats.

-The damage reported is after mitigations I don't know why you think it's damage done b4 mitigation.
- It also counts misses, ie: you dont do damage so theres nothing to count...
-Not sure why or how you came to your assumptions... do you use the parser?
Theirs a lot of information their happy digging.
Actually, only do that if you know you are the only person using those type of mines... two people using the same mine type will have that damage added together, so dont really want to just add it... (besides, who uses mines? :P)
In any case, thanks to this thread, i upped my DPS to almost 5k consistently... probably the best I can do on my science captain, but better than the <3k i was getting before
I decided to give in to the curiosity and check it out but the only place that it seems to have been available from has either lost it or deliberately taken it down.
Anyway, if this beam build turns out to be a mistake I'm going to be down 400c and a lot of dilithium.
please join organizedpvp chat channel in game and ask aorund for a 1v1. you will not wait long to find one wholl accept your challenge. despite your mit genius, you may find there are many more factors involved in pvp than shear dps and rsp....
