If I see 3 people going at a singe cube and no one is on my side, I ignore the probes and go for the far cube. Why? (usually I take my time to see who goes where and then I take my position accordingly)
case
1: I take the probes alone on my side. I destroy the cube and transformer for 1:30-2 min, and then wait for 10 minutes so that the rest of the team is done with the other side.
2: I destroy the whole side while guarding the probes - too much effort, I'm not always in the mood for it.
3: I ignore the probes, go to the far side, be done with it, come left, take the probes and do everything else - 2 probes missed, a lot of time saved. (sometimes some players notice the probes before they are through the time portal so the opt is saved)
So...if you can't handle a cube alone in a timely manner - stick to guarding a gate.
so i started going through the queues that i do daily to earn marks and dilithium and i enter the cure found ? i think it's the name( the one with the kang ) the whole team sucked really hard i was staying guard to kill the ships but they couldn't kill one cube, i go and kill it while the four of them where guarding the kang and i turn and see them fighting a ton of ships and they couldn't kill them and the the players were blowing up all the time except me.
the borg kill the kang i was alone with the attract fire command next to the kang and 5-8 borg ships, needless to say the kang gets blown to bits and i say whatever and i stop healing or firing and i blow up myself then a guy in a schimitar says noobs don't come to elite etc etc while he blew up many times and didn't do that much damage.
the second match i go in is the khitomer vortex bad team again on the right side two and they couldn't kill a transformer on my side one in a obelisk killed the left transformer and was firing at the gate not caring about anything else while i and another player where killing the borg cube until he was killed and two probes where coming to the vortex.
i start firing at them while taking damage from the cube because the other player with me blew up and i manage to kill one probe and reduce the second to 10% health and then the cube fires one of it's uber op torps and blows me to bits.
we lose the optional, i rewpawn and what do i see ? the player that was with me had gone to the right gate with the two others struggling to kill a transformer, while the obelisk was still firing at the right gate with one transformer and the cube that killed me still there, no one cared about anything in other words. i cloed the game immediately. let them put as many penalties as they want on me.
i was a newbie too and i didn't know what to do but i have learned many things since a few months ago, but some guys don't even try to fake interest in learning they just press spacebar rapidly for a couple of hours and then that's it. man, sometimes i ask myself why do i even bother with mmo's they are full of stupid people.
Got a new one. Vault Ensnared. Guy in a patrol escort comes in with three injuries and spends the first five minutes parked at the spawn point. I give him my usual profanity-laced warning to start participating or I'll report him. He starts moving and whines at me that he's reported me for vulgarity.
At that point, I said to myself, "Okay, you asked for it" and reported him as a leecher anyway.
Everyone, the only way to deal with trolls, griefers, leechers, whatever, is to deal with them. Give them one chance to straighten up and fly right, then report them.
If I had to guess, I would go with everyone thinking someone else will handle it.
Yeah. I pug Khitomer fairly regularly and I don't ever assume people know to blast the probes. If somebody on my side of the map hasn't messaged they're on probes, I will break off whatever I'm doing when they turn up and go after them. With my setup I can take out four in under a minute pretty easily.

Trying to figure this one out. ISE run, with optional, ended at about 12 minutes left. So a three or so minute run. Apparently one sphere up top got left behind when we switched sides, I was already in the middle clearing the big ball of gravity welled spheres.

Well, I had an EPIC FAIL in Sirius recently. Granted I was flying a T'Varo and those are notoriously squishy, but still.... The Red Alert went reasonably, a bit slow, possibly due to me getting KOed several times.... I'm not even sure how I got it the third time... anyways.... the Unimatrix spawns, I start blasting it's regen probes, then when they're gone I blast at it.... then get triple TBed and KCBed.... OW. Apparently that can kill you through shields. this happens twice, then I look at the unimatrix and realize it's still a >90% and there's a swarm of probes, NOT regen probes, but a swarm all the same.
Somehow this Unimatrix was spitting out probes so fast that the rest of the team got bogged down killing them. And there was a LOT of them....the third time I just gave up on fighting the UM and shot probes 'til the timer ran out.

When this happens, it's usually two unmatrix ships that warps in on top of each other. When you target it, only one will show, but you notice it badly as you did when it/they starts turbocharging their probe output.
Or it's simply a bug or a bad instance.
This even happens in HSE and HSN with unimatrix ships there, but not often...
The Borg must have some ship building capacity  :P
Sometimes high DPS isn't a great thing - it's not teaching newer players how to actually play the STF's.
I mean, an instance of ISE yesterday; after the initial cube exploded a new player flew straight over to the transformers and started blasting them. Thankfully, the cube above was taken down in short order.
But that's my point - with the cube having been taken down so quickly, there is not really any way that the new player might be aware that attacking the transformers in the first instance isn't a good plan. (And as a side-note, I did message said player but didn't receive a reply so unsure whether it was read or lost to scrolling/chat not open etc).
However, teaching only apply to fleet mates, not pugs. So if you tell your fleeties what to do, it shouldnt be a problem.
And as sidenote, i figured the stfs out by myself, and by reading the descriptions. If ppl dont do this (and worse, get angry if you politely tell them the correct way) , you cant blame high-dps-players to play pugs how they do it normally, as long as it doesnt fail because of it.
The stupidity of some ppl shouldnt be blamed on other ones.
Honestly I play a lot of games and sometimes when I come back to this one I forget a few things. Even with playing this game all the time, something bad stuff can happen... A mistake, but people treat it like it's the end of the world, because the guy yelling at that one person in the mission somehow is inhuman and never makes mistakes. I unfortunately do. I'm a professional at my real job, and I am very good at it, but it make mistakes there too. People need to be more forgiving in this game.
I shouldn't even be comparing a game to a real job because Star Trek=fun/ not serious business.
Has everybody forgotten how to do stf's? Things like people don't know about road guards on khitomers for the probes, or remember to kill all the nanotechnology generators before the transformers...
Tried it once or twice, but people are using that STF as to semi-afk and get easy loot.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Hmmm, these days the worst STF experience for me was one a few weeks back where my connection decided to go south on me whilst I was already in ISE. I ended up with such bad lag that I had no control of my ship and the borg vessels were loading with place holder names rather than actual names, luckily I DCd fairly quickly, but odds are it left the pug I was in thinking that I was a shoddy AFKer who then rage quit on them....
It's bad enough when you have a team member not pulling their weight, it's even worst when through no fault of your own YOU are the team member not pulling their weight...
Just thought I'd change things a bit from complaining about other people. Gave me more of an insight into how sometimes maybe the pug member acting like an idiot doesn't actually have any say in the matter. Like the time I was doing cure space with my old fleet, lag (didn't know I was lagging until it was nearly too late) had my screen showing me attacking the probes under the first cube, with my fleet asking me what the heck I was doing, when boing suddenly my client caught up and I realised I was actually shooting the probes under the last cube.....
Just to note, any time I experience lag like this I log out of the game and start doing repeated tests on my connection and don't log back in until I am confident I'm not going to lag. Wish some other folks would learn to do the same. :P
Since I've been focusing on other things, I haven't had time to STF. A few recent incidents, though, made me the bad STF player due to getting DCed in the middle of a match. I've also had my share of the people who join that one Federation Fleet Action who bail before the final match.
Another stinker of a team in Storming the Spire a few minutes ago.
Seriously - talk about clueless. The whole useless lot of them simply hung around the far left side, protecting the friendly transports. The whole team (bar me). Leaving me, in my Fleet Nova, to deal with everything else.
Needless to say, it didn't work - at one point I was set upon by no less than eight Voth ships. No amount of crowd control is sufficient under those circumstances - I did actually request backup at one point, but my plea was ignored. The best I could do was take an absolute pasting, GWIII the lot of them, give them a gravimetric TSIII to eat and then run like hell - was fortunate to stay in one piece.
To be honest, with the team being as much use as an ejector seat in a helicopter, the troop count stacked 250/85 in the Voth's favour, and only me paying any attention to the Voth troop ships, I bailed.
I just don't get it though - the fact that they were useless notwithstanding, it takes a special kind of idiot to look at that troop count and not realise that something isn't right.
Yeah I'm amazed by how clueless some people are in the spire, needless to say I choose to do the breach as I can drag a bad team through it.
Though, the both pose very little threat, I'm surprised you didn't hand out the pasting even in a science ship.
Went into Khitomer Ground Elite and no one but me knew what to do. But they all had at least progressed through some of the Omega Tiers. Two even had Tier 5 armor sets. One even had the optional accolade costume unlock, so how he had no clue what to do I'll never know.
I normally do elite stfs but when i want to test things I run normals. On this night i went into a cure normal and yes with a oddy. When i got in there the first thing someone says is oh great a @%$## oddy. I said nothing and headed to cube and nanites on right as everyone went center. I started hitting my side , because no one came with me. I was down to last nanite when another ship came to help. We took out cube and I headed to center when I got there they had 3 nanites left and I finished them off, took out neghs on left and helped them finish last cube. I broad sided carrier and done. The guy that mouthed off in begining said sorry about comment. Told him I normally fly elites you might want to work on your biuld and warped out.

I made it to tier 5 omega pretty much exclusively soloing the Defera invasion zone, with the odd normal STF pug thrown in there when I got bored, (I'm still awful at them). As I'd like to learn how to do the ground/space STFs, I'm probably too casual for that, never play on elite and know that as soon as I tried It'd be a story worth writing a post here about.
Did a KSE pug.....warped in to see every single ship but my Fleet Nebula had multiple system failures.
Then the guy in the Galaxy dread says "omg i forgot to equip my shield"
Needless to say it did not end well
ROFL. I have seen ships with multiple system failures ... even critical bridge damage. But not equipping shields takes the cake. +1 for funny factor!
You know having multiple failures and queuing for an event should trigger a warning to the players. "Hey dude ... fix your ship!"
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Played a round of Khitomer the other day with some guys from my fleet. Everything went normally for the first ten minutes, then right as the second transformer on gate number two blows, my server connection goes completely monkey****. Seriously, my ship to me was going back and forth, flying in circles and in all other ways completely uncontrollable. Fortunately I was on TeamSpeak so I could tell the others what was going on, but man, that was some of the worst lag I've ever seen. I couldn't contribute at all and ended up on the other side of the map somehow. By the time the connection stabilized the match was over.

I played Infected Elite one day with my dad and we had one guy (a smart one I may add) say on comms, "10% rule". I knew about this rule (thank you youtube), but the other didn't, including my dad. Next thing I know, one of the Nanite Generators was destroyed, the guy who knew what he was doing was shouting "10% RULE YOU NOOBS", then immediately left. Then we were bogged down by the Nanite Spheres and me and dad just bailed out of there.
I think there was one or two Rainbow Oddy's there as well.
(Also, I had to explain to Dad about the 10% rule)
10% rule? Never heard of it. Just found it, its stupid, all you need is one person with repulsors (me in my Rom toon) and spheres arent an issue....
10% rule? Never heard of it. Just found it, its stupid, all you need is one person with repulsors (me in my Rom toon) and spheres arent an issue....
I usually do a variant. Each person takes a different generator and shoots it to bits. We get done around the same time the nanite spheres spawn... Then whatever spawned gets blown away, and we continue to the other side.
I had one a while back, it was quite a bit ago but it remains one of the worst players I have encountered thus far in the game. Now, back then I was just new, my first character had hit level 50 a bit ago and I was still using the free ship you get at level 40. Despite this, I am happy to say that I was able to hold my own on elite, not the best player by any means but I never dragged down a team which is more than some can say. I was running a beam type load-out if anyone is curious, but I digress.
Anyway, I was playing the Cure Found and ended up in a game with a few others who seemed to be pretty new. It was my first time playing Cure, but we were doing pretty well right up until the first cube died. At that point, a load of ships spawned in as they do and we were forced to defend the Kang. This is important, there were five of us defending her at that point. me and the other guys. Despite our best efforts, the ship died and one of the players who sadly was probably more experianced than any of us stuck around to call us all n00bs before warping out.
Now, I was still new then as I said so I PMed the guy and asked just what he would have done differently. What followed was a frustrating ten minutes of this guy finding new and inventive ways to blame the rest of the team. All the way from ''Its everyone's job to keep an eye on the Kang'' to ''You should have buffed her (even if you did) ''
By themselves these arguments are not so bad; indeed it IS everyone's job to keep an eye on the ship even if you have someone else guarding her. What made it so frustrating was he hypocrasy of this guy, who claimed to be an experianced player and yet he had done none of the things he told us we had failed to consider.
It ended up with the guy blocking me because I would not admit that it was everyone not him at fault and that it was obviously the rest of the team who had to learn to play.
In summery, its often that I go into an elite force mission and a new player is not doing so well, but I will always hold this instance as evidence that experianced players can be just as bad, and self-entitled as any newbie.
Me and my friend were about to do CGE... both drunk... and my friend fell asleep.

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.
Not tryin to brag here, but this story needs to be shared. I just had the most absolutely, unbelievable, bad STF experience. Christmas day, was everyone letting their kids play or something?
KSE, public que, which usually goes pretty good, sometimes some problems but not often, I don't just queuing for pugs all the time. Me in my Romulan, engineer class, scimitar dred, rest of team is ALL Fed tac captains in Avenger cruisers, everyone of em, which is a great ship, I use it on my fed engineer very very well. We drop first cube, I go right, everyone else goes left. I drop first two probes, then first gen cube, all by myself, doing fine. What? 2 probes jus got through on left, optional failed, oh well, i say in team chat, hey someone watch left probes over there. I drop two more probes, then, not one, but two, gen cubes from left all working their way over to me, what the hell? I manage to drop em, dying once in the process, but still managing to not let a single probe through from right. They've let another 4 though by that time from left. What the hell is going on over there! I try my best to work probes both sides, now have 3 to drop my side. They let EIGHT probes through from left. Finallyyyy they finish over there they all come right, alright, i say in chat, I'm watching right probes, since none of you can seem to. Again, they spawn cube, and ignore it, left to me to take it down. Another probe gets through, 9. Final cube exploding kills me. No don't ANYONE try and stop that loose probe or anything, one more and total fail you know! Not on of em even tried to stop it, i manage to respawn n get there just in time. Ok, thats it, I'm watching probes, will not let last one through, all they have to do is drop the gate and maybe help a little with the spheres, this takes another 15 minutes, and requires me to move in and lay down fire on gate, this taking foreverrr, and still not one of em helping with probes and barely with spheres, they all dying more times then I can count.
Finally, going at Donatra, he gets me in his burst cone, I die. Bout to re engage, no, you know what, i did ALL the work in this stf, lets see how long it takes you, FOUR tac captains in Avengers, to finish Donatra, I cloak and just sit there. Another 15 minutes go buy, until three of them just leave, then last one does soon after. Well thats it, I do too.
10% rule? Never heard of it. Just found it, its stupid, all you need is one person with repulsors (me in my Rom toon) and spheres arent an issue....
Or just five guys with enough DPS to blow the transformer before the spheres even get past the transwarp conduit. Never been a problem for the guys I usually play with. Hit the left side, then the right. Blow the cube, concentrate fire on one pair of gens, then the other, then empty ordnance into the transformer. Easy-peasy, and that's with quite a huge variety of captains involved.
Some people just don't have any idea how to fly their ship. Word to the wise: No ship is an "I win" button, not even a ferocious little beast like the Avenger-class.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.
WORST TEAM EVER
Or just five guys with enough DPS to blow the transformer before the spheres even get past the transwarp conduit. Never been a problem for the guys I usually play with. Hit the left side, then the right. Blow the cube, concentrate fire on one pair of gens, then the other, then empty ordnance into the transformer. Easy-peasy, and that's with quite a huge variety of captains involved.
Some people just don't have any idea how to fly their ship. Word to the wise: No ship is an "I win" button, not even a ferocious little beast like the Avenger-class.
