Maybe it's just me, but I honestly can't stand the beginning part of the mission.
I disabled the sensors Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and Zeta, then I got spotted by the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship.
I destroyed it and I figured, with that, it would've kept the mission going with the first six sensors disabled.
But no.
I had to start all over again with Alpha, while trying to eliminate worker bees and fend of Jem'Hadar ships in the process.
I normally don't complain, but I honestly couldn't even finish that objective on account of my frustration with it.
Did anyone else who went through this mission feel the same way or am I totally overreacting?
The first part is about repetition, just target work bee first then fend off fighters. The second part is guess work and fast response, if its about to explode then hit impulse to get clear. You have to guess the first action then quickly follow up with the required second action (write the steps down). The mission is repetition and guessing all the way through.

The second part involves no guess work. The dialog box tells you which combo, after you scan it will tell you what it picked up. You just have to jot down the combos, or remember them, so you can do it quick enough.

I had problems with it the first time I tried. I failed four times and gave up. Then I did it with two other people (team of 3) and later tried it solo and did it the first time. I am slow and also had trouble with the part where one has to do a salvage search for Farek. I can't think fast enough when I scan the ores (sci), derelict ships (engineer), or satellites (tac) because I do not immediately see the result of the scan and then act on it. I generally have to move the mouse around the screen until I see the result and then look at the note I wrote to myself about what to do for each of the three possible scan results. After a few tries, I got faster and was able to get the 4 scans.
Farek sounds like the wicked witch from Wizard of Oz as played by the late Margaret Hamilton. I am just waiting for her to say "... and your little dog, too!"
Have to agree, it is all contained in the dialogue options and I had no issue with completing it on my three VA Federation characters (each track) and my level 32 KDF officer. Each time it took about 15 minutes and I was able to get all three reward options.
Even the swamers at the end were not too tough to deal with, it is always a little odd being back in a shuttle with relatively limited options in terms of Bridge Officer skills....:p
From reading across various forums of late, it seems to me that a lot of people do not take the time to read the bridge officer reports, information in books and other titbits that pop up. For me, at least, I have generally enjoyed the additional notes and contact pieces and just as with previous episodes, the answers are always given, it is a case of reading over them. My only real gripe with this feature series is that it does seem to lack a little depth compared with previous episodes. Maybe that is just me though...
For those that have the point defense console the swarmers are a piece of cake.
Someone said they were having trouble with hitting the swarmers with their narrow firing arc...if you use shuttle beam weapons they have a 360 degree firing arc and most swarmers only take one shot :-)

...quite so, point defence was very handy, a dropped disruptor turret sealed the deal. I also took out my photon torpedo and racked up a second 360 degree phaser bank.
Those poor little ships never stood a chance.
As for the second half of the mission, it's a question of paying attention really. Don't pay attention, better have brace for impact handy. Pay attention and its a breeze.
Overall, i enjoyed this mission for two major reasons.
First off...SHUTTLES!
There's just not enough shuttle missions. They're canon enough, surely? How many episodes of TOS, TNG, DS9 and even Voy revolve around mishaps of a shuttle-tastic nature?
They're nicely realised in the game, give us much more to do in them.
Secondly, after last weeks Bajor fitness programme.... "We'll RUN those pounds right off you".....it's a good change of pace.
So far, we've had a bit of runny-talky, some optional shenanigans, more talky-talky, some runny-gunny and some pew-pew-spaciness. Then run- DeForrest Kelley-run all over Bajor for really a long time, interpsersed with odd runny-talky-things and the occasional holo deck action. Oh, and a whack-a-space-moles-radio-frequency game.
Now this. some genuine space based tomfoolery in a small ship. Forces those admirals to do wthout their commander level consoles and their serried ranks of phaser banks. Gives the lower ranked players some unabashed space fighter fun.
In the context of the story arc so far, I'd say it was pitch perfect...in both type of action and difficulty.
I think this is a lousy mission. The shuttle is so small that I can hardly see it most of the time. When I zoom in, it doesn't stay. I can't tell if I'm facing forward or backward.
I find most Shuttle missions to be this way. They are too Dart like in movement to handle them properly at high speeds to gauge which way it is going.I waited until yesterday to play it for the 1st time after any server overloads and bug patches and went through it without any "hiccups".I found it kind of boring.
Position your ship and camera in a way that your scan object appears by your side not in front of you or below you.
Then the label should be readyble very clearly. I had to look into the pop-up manual every single time and I didn't fail once.. only got jumped by a swarm the first time.
I had the same problem and learned to position my camera so that I was looking down on a larger area and could see behind the dialog box. Only in that way was I able to see the result of the scan in order to take the appropriate action.
The dialog box often covers the scan result or the result appears in a corner.
Also, are orbital turrets a KDF only item or are they available to fed characters?
I have to do the missions two more times on each character in order to get all the reward items and the missions are easier now that I know how to get past the little glitches and I am more familiar with the map.
I can do the missions without the wicked witch yelling at me.
(Farek sounds like the wicked witch from the original Wizard of Oz movie).
The first part wasn't too hard, after I figured out to target the worker bees first then take out the fighters. but the second part has me stumped. I have the engineering report as to the sequence but I can't see to start the scans shen I get near each derelict. I hit V for scan, I try F to use. nothing happens. I guess I'm dense. What am I missing?

When you approach the derelict ships, a dialog box pops up which says "scan ship" or similar. Click that and the scan begins and the tricky part is seeing the result of this scan so that you can select the proper type of scan (there are 3 scans for each derelict ship). The first scan just shows what the material is, but the result of this appears either behind the dialog box or off in a corner. The trick is to position your camera so you can see behind the box. It is that way for me but I am using an 11 diameter laptop.
I could not do this quickly enough so I wrote down the information contained in the engineering report so that I can act on the scans. I can't remember this information when I need it but making a note solved that.
I finally finished the Gamma mission, but the sensors were a nightmare for me. I had a difficult time geting use to my shuttle changing siizes. Sometimes the shuttle looked like a dot on the screen and I couldn't keep track of where I was. If my shuttle would have stayed the same size, it would not have been so difficult. Having to start over at the Alpha sensor was driving me nuts. On the other hand, the rest of the missin was easy and the swamers were fun. I'll never try to repeat this mission. Too frustrating.
I didn't have much trouble at all with the deactivating of DS9's sensors, though sometimes flying around the station was a pain. I did see one Jem'Hadar fighter get stuck in the station structure, but it did eventually move so I was able to kill it.
Whenever they appeared, I concentrated on killing the worker bee drones first. Once they were done, I went after the fighters.
The character I played this mission is an engineer. I didn't have any trouble in scanning and retrieving the materials from the four derelict ships. The engineering report I saw made it pretty plain what scans and the order they had to be in for the three different materials.
I noticed you had to get within 1km of the derelict ships before the 'Scan Ship' prompt came up.
I played 'Of Bajor' and 'Operation Gamma' and I really enjoyed both of them very much.
Something I've noticed on the FE's past and present, is that it's a good idea to take notes (you know, withe a pen and paper  I know I know how barbaric), that way when you get to teh puzzle portions it's a little easier to get through them
I just finished this mission with my vice admiral science officer in a captain's yacht. For this character, it was a pretty easy mission. I probably had a big advantage though, with a torpedo platform (obtained from a duty officer mission) in one of the device slots, and Photonic Fleet. Having read this thread beforehand, I made sure my BOff had Beam Array: Fire at Will, which was extremely useful both against the fighters and the swarms. I also had the automated defense turret in the tactical slot, but BA:FAW took care of most of the enemies. For the ship's weapons, I swapped out the torpedo for another beam array to get the most out of BA:FAW.
Without those advantages, I can see that the mission could be pretty challenging. But not impossible.

If you have a mouse with a role button in the center, you can change the size of your vessel. I rolled mine until it was big enough to where I could see it and get trough the mission.
The first part of the mission is annoying as hell. Yes, you can actually do it without blowing up if you make sure that you have at least one shield heal (admittedly, doing it with a KDF member is easier, because Disable Sensors is much more helpful than tractor beam), but it's just really annoying and not fun at all. Compound that by the fact that you have to do it twice to get the space set items. The sample collecting was hard at first, but once you realize that you can get within about 4km of the swarmers without aggroing them, it gets easier. Only takes me about 5 mintues to do that now.
And it is fun blowing that nasally little rat away at the end :P
You have to destroy the Worker Bees before they reactivate the sensor then kill the other ships. My buddy and I did this part in around minutes. It isn't that hard.
Also, the Delta flyer is excellent for this mission.
For the second part, yeah it's annoying at first. But it's easy once you get it.
I found it super easy as well. Delta Flyer with The Vault reward 360 degree phaser and a harg'peng. BO 1 and polarize hull (didn't want to retrain LOL!!!). Two pieces of Omega, two of Borg. Even the attack ship popped like Jiffy(pop). Swarmers almost went in a big group when i got the harg'peng on one of them. For the tac objective, just read the instructions

You have to get within 1km of the object in question, and you will only get a response from the object that matches your profession. But a watchword; try to approach the activity items in such a way that their name isn't in the middle of the screen; otherwise, the pop-up action dialogue will blot out what kind of salvage it is and you won't know what to do.
Between that, and knowing you can get insanely close to the Idran Swarmers at this point of the game without them even noticing you means that I can complete the second part in about 5 minutes.
The first part, however, remains very difficult, frustrating and infuriating; even though I know to attack the bees first. It's near-impossible to do with a Tactical character because the fighters like to blow you up before you can even target the bees.
There's also been an ongoing issue with targeting going screwy during the first part of the mission. My options are all set to attack without targeting first, and for tab to select targets offscreen, but in play, it often just refuses to do that, so I spend long times not firing at anything because my weapons just won't fire. And give me a break; I'm old. Fast-moving targets are a pain in the TRIBBLE for me
Found it normal my self.
Some tips ( or not , it depends ) for other fellow captains.
Put any set you have ( deflector , engines , shields ) in you shutle. Put some console(s) that give you more shields or more hull strength, just remember , before something hit your hull , it will hit your shields...:).
Read the instructions and do a capture/print screen/something to keep them handy. Play then in window mode , and have open the instructions in some other window so you can see them ( quikly switch , from game window , to the window having the captured info ).
Well i managed to do it 4 times in roughly 45 mins. Do the satellites blow up then if you get the selection wrong??? Mine never, i just followed the report on the side of the screen. t'was easy.
I found the mission to be fairly fun, and I've run it a couple of times now.
I didn't have much of a problem with the first part of the mission...I find the fighters and worker bees go down fairly quickly when hit with torpedos...once their shields are knocked down, usually a single torp can do the job, and if you pack Harp'angs onto your shuttle/fighter you can do a good amount of area damage.
If I may make a suggestion for those having issues with the fighters and swarmers, don't forget to adjust your Active DoFFs to better compliment the size of the ship you are flying for the mission. Shuttles and fighters are much closer to escorts in style of play and so DoFFs should be slotted accordingly. It can be a big help, especially slotting a Conn officer so that you get the occasional bonus to the Evasive Maneuvers cool down.
The first time I ran through the mission I was flying a Peregrine mounting a pair of heavy cannons and har'pengs...I made short work of the fighters and Jem'Hadar ship in the first part of the mission, but the swarmers in the asteroid section nearly ate me for lunch. They were much to quick for me to target with the cannons, but I managed to get them with my torps.
Next run through I swapped the cannons out for a phaser array and had a much easier time.
Good lord, people. The first time the sensors reset, I realised I needed to ignore the fighters and take out the workers first after every other sensor. As soon as I did that, that section was easy. When the tac info came up, I wrote it down. I didn't fail a single satellite, in fact I remember thinking "hm, compared to some of the other puzzles I've faced in this game, that was lame". The first time, the swarm killed me (i was using 2 single cannons and couldn't face them quickly enough when they surrounded me), so I respawned equipped two turrets and the plasma defense turret and mashed the space bar. Job done. I then did it all again (for the second reward), taking no more than 10 minutes.
For first section, I found a BOff with a shield heal to be very helpful so you can ignore the fighters while you focus on the bees. Also, Harh'peng Torpedos or however it's spelled.
For the second section, writing down the scan combinations made it trivial.
For the swarmers, switch in a BOff with an AoE ability (Fire at Will is my preference) and kill most of them in a few seconds.
The worst part for me were the little bug ships. When I had to kill the three groups of them, the only way I could beat it was by auto-destructing while surrounded by them and taken them with me. :^P
I found a way to work through it. When she gets ready to blow, pop evasive maneuvers and get the heck out of dodge. then turn around and wait for the satellite to respawn. Whatever you chose the first time, do it again. if it blows up, repeat. the satellite fixes are random, which is STUPID by the way, so if you keep to the original sequence, EVENTUALLY you'll get it. I never thought this one would be worse than the runaround of "Of Bajor."
The trick with the Sats is after the initial keep the Sat entirely on the screen and read what it says near the status bar... i.e. detecting enemy that is the clue to which squence to use. This mission can be done with minimal combat. I managed to complete the salvage and only had to attack the spawn when the resoense pulse was used while the frengi was escaping.
