bull.. I power insultator and an emitter array in there along with the assimilated module.. in fact, I would have liked one more science slot on my defiant-r.. now I have 2 slots and like 4 total consoles I could put in there and less that I can use in engineering.
Right.. cuz the +13 shield regen emitter amplifier (i.e. increasing efficiency of the shield emitters) is now a science department's job... right?
Firstly, shields were (and always had been) an Engineering role (according to canon) unless shields were in someway affected by their surroundings, though normally if the shields were done for the ship normally was (to a degree).
Second, there was *already* a console for shields in Science (Shield Emitters) that came with the Science Console overhaul for Season 5.
Third, this now means that Engineering consoles have lost MORE than Science has GAINED. Put it simply, most players will be using a combination of SIF Generator and this console (pre nerf) in their Engineering slots as it gives both an improvement in hull regen and shield capacity, as well as whatever "power" console (such as the Anti-Matter Spread) they were using if they had more than two.
Colour me extremely un-impressed. At the very least, they should've swapped the consoles round so that this console moves to Science and the Shield Emitters console got moved to Engineering. At least it would stop *some* of the negativity if the players got offered a (meagre) replacement.
So, should I use a exploration ship or cruiser for maximizing tanking build now?
I think most people can agree that the new value is too low. Most, if honest, will probably also agree that the old value was too high, making the console a "must have." Best case scenario is that Cryptic changes the value to somewhere in-between.
Unfortunately, Cryptic seems to be ignoring questions in regards to the grandfathering that was promised. Probably because they don't intend to fix their screwup
What Cryptic should do is move the console back to an engineering slot, but I'm sure everybody here knows that Cryptic is too proud to revert something like this after they've put their foot down, even when it's obvious that they are wrong.
So here's a simple compromise: Let the +35 console go into either a science or an engineering slot. Cryptic gets to keep things their way, while people who expected to be grandfathered don't have their builds screwed up and no longer need to feel lied to. Win/win, no?
The ironic thing is with the buff to science consoles and moving shield consoles to science, all that Cryptic has effectively made engineering consoles almost as unwanted as science consoles used to be. +3.5 power setting? Who really cares about that.
Yeah I guess this is cryptics way giving every one what they want ...sigh...with every patch this game gets worse.
My brother just bought the 35 percent console yesterday and today its gone. I was using this console for a long time and now suddenly its +35 to shield which is utterly useless. my base shielding is 7468 and now it gets bumped up to 8203...yup lovely..
I'm so disgusted right now I'm playing Supreme Commander. At least I know I can load it up for a consistent game experience every time. Boy the f-up Fairy must have made a lot of overtime for this TRIBBLE up. What's the point of the Tribble "Test" server if the things that are most important to players just get pushed directly to the live server. You guys deserve everything thrown at you today.
I find it easier to assume Tribble is the preview server and not a test server. It was the same way in Champs from my experience when they were nerfing the poo out of that game in the early days (You are not a superhero after all.. Just a champion.. lol).
These types of changes, which affect thousands of players, aren't generally done on a whim at the last second by an individual acting alone. They require meetings, discussion, approvals, and internal testing which most always take place before it gets changed on the preview... Er.. Test server.
Were is the overflow bag. I do not see it in the inventory window if it is the on any of my characters. Getting tired of Cryptic messing up the players with there great ideas.
I do in fact hope this gets reverted back to the 35%. I don't see any problem with a console being good. Particularly as an escort pilot, there's value to a console that gives your shields a bump, particularly because even covariant shields are going to get shredded pretty fast during STFs.
I could care less where it's slotted. What I do care more about is what seems to be a tendency to think that just because a console is widely used, it's bad.
Can we just get a straight answer on what, if anything, Cryptic intends to do about the grandfathering? Please? Even something as simple as: "we're considering our options" would be appreciated.
Quite annoying that Cryptic is pretending not to hear us on that issue.
1) This is the same guy that asked for feedback on the new ships, got over 25 pages of it, and then completely ignored it. I'm not really sure how much I believe him.
2) Adjusting these consoles to use skill while still providing the same buff would require them to set the skill bonus to more than 100 - i.e. more than you get from actual skills. That's going to look pretty weird, and when they see it, they may decide not to return them to that level.
3) The console has needed a nerf for a long time.
4) It is currently possible to stack them, so with 3 or 4 of them you get back to, and possibly over, the old shield values.
Taken together, this looks far more like a deliberate plan than an accident. And, even if it is an accident, I have a feeling that it is going to stick around.
Just because you can stack them to get your power back does not make it ok.
It is hard enough keeping shields around before this and after this eeeggghh...
Also, why shove this into Science? Seriously? For me it makes no difference... Pop the Borg Console out and put that into the Eng slot that this was in... I mean that is probably the exact same thing that will happen for the vast majority of players... Big whoop. All it does is ensure that if you put the old Borg Console in Engineering to beef up your Sci Abilities (which you NEED consoles for since you can no longer skill into them very well and expect to do anything else), then you have one less slot you can use.
This is easy to fix. Make all consule either a skill or percent. This Makes it simple! It either effects the skill or the over all stat. And quit nerfing science. I use to go toe to toe against real good tacs in escorts. Also what about the gravity well nerf. I use todo near 2000 points of damage with gw3 when auxnat 125 now it is 1300. It is bad enough that the only bonus we get is our shield and then you nerf the consule killing my shields by 4000 points. I know I am only one person but if cryptic keeps making decission like this I will go free to play and quite give them any money. They need to balance the three classes so when in there ships they stand a equal chance of hurt each other and possible beating the other one based on playability. The best thing that can do is balance consules that way all consules either bump the skill or the effect of the skill. Why of tactical and engineering consules get percentages and science get skill bonus it doesn't seem fair when they are third in hull strength and third in weapons slots. Where the cruiser is first in weapons slots first in hull and second to shields. Then the tactical equips which is fine with me but at least they have the seeker shield but second in hull and weapons slots.
thanks SO much Cryptic for destroying the shield tanks, the Field Generator console is totally useless now -_- another victim of pvp'ers whining i suppose
A maintenance release was done on the morning of Friday, Feb 3rd. I have not yet heard reports about whether this release addresses the issue.
Update: Cryptic has retroactively edited the Feb 2 release notes to state the field generator and field emitter consoles MAY be moved to the overflow bag. May!? What the hell does that mean?
Update: Release notes for the Feb 3 patch are posted. It mentions the field generator is back to directly modifying Shield HP, but remains a science console. No mention is made about consoles being removed from engineering slots.
I'm creating this thread to track the status of the bug that is moving Field Generator consoles from a ships engineering slots to the inventory overflow bag. This bug is discussed in a number of threads, but it can be difficult to find the latest information among the many, many other issues surrounding this change. I'll update the status at the top of this original post as the forums learn more.
Explicit assurances where given in the developer posting announcing the changes to the engineering shield consoles that any consoles that were already slotted on a ship as an engineering console would not be removed. When the change was pushed to Holodeck, reports immediately started pouring into the forums of players who had their field generators moved to the inventory overflow bag and they were unable to return them to the engineering console slots.
Its unclear how Cryptic can fix this for the affected players, and while Geko has respondedto another issue created by this change, there has been no acknowledgement of this issue that I'm aware of. I recommend that if you have a ship build that depends on a field generator in an engineer slot you don't log into the game until this issue is addressed or we have confirmation that it won't be fixed.

beam to a starbase and back.... say bye bye FG
There is already another thread about the console change at http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=251677 that you are more than welcome to join in the discussion at
However, leave the fighting at the door
Also, for those that need reminding please read the Perfect World Entertainment Community Rules and Policies
list the engineering one. please
Science--Science Team 1, 2, & 3. Transfer Shield Strength 1, 2, & 3.
Has been that way for a quiet a while
So, should I use a exploration ship or cruiser for maximizing tanking build now?
Got all those.. wanted you to clarify because my post was talking about consoles.. not related heals.
You forgot two Engineering BOff shield heals:
Extend Shields 1, 2 & 3.
Reverse Shield Polarity 1, 2 & 3.
And two Engineering Captain ability shield heals:
Rotate Shield Frequencies 1, 2 & 3.
Miracle Worker 1, 2 & 3.
Extend--is for aiding an ally
Reverse is a converter of energy to repowering damaged shields
And the last two mentioned by you, don't have access to, cause I am Tact., but I have seen them in action before. Thanks for the update
Now back to the Main Topic at hand..

Oh well nothing much we can do.

Nevermind, HappyHappyJoyJoy beat me to it;)
I think someone forgot to carry a 1.
On my Dreadnought
Pre-Feb 02. value = 11400+
Feb 02. value = 9073
Feb 03 "reverted" value =10647
Well, at least we see some improvement there, now we just need another patch to bring back th missing chunk.
Using Omega.

Hopefully they will fix it soon for those it effects.
The lootbag button is there...but nothing popps up when i press it
my console is gone.
Edit
logging off and back on..it was in the overflow bag
For those who abused this, they had it coming.
Having over 2k shield regen every 6 seconds per facing was insane.
