If I get a minute I'll try and take a peak at your build.
To be honest the main purpose of this post is just to keep this post from dying as god knows a lot of folks would do themselves a service by reading it.
However on a more serious note. I'm flying the tac odd and while Its a fine ship I do miss the sexy lines of the assault cruiser.
The only problem is between the universal ltcmdr slot and the extra console slot, I just can't think of a legitimate reason to go back to it.
Do any of you fine folks see a plus to that ship versus the odd?

You can kill things while still looking sleek and sexy?
Go for dumb and pretty my friend.
I refuse to put my MVAM down and away. (Yes I feel the sci oddy has even relegated Scorts to being a thing of the past)
Any suggestions for an Eng captain wishing to pilot the Vor'cha? I'm kind of stuck on how to modify the build. I'd prefer DHCs, but I'd take some other ideas if necessary.
glad i could help. rsp is your emergency last ditch shield heal, it should only be used when there is but a sliver of shields left and people are now focusing on you to finish you off. with shields you constantly want to be hitting distribute all, or distribute to the shield faceing that is getting hit, so by the time you do need rsp you have no shields left at all. then after you hit rsp, keep hitting distribute all like mad! all the healing from people shooting at you will refill all your faceings. by then your other heals will be off their cool downs and you can continue on like all that damage you took never happened.
Didn't want to clogg the thread, but I gotta say this:
Follow up: I am now using rsp. And really, I was skeptic on having it. Definitely wouldn't have that on my bop for anything. I know Mav's thread has it as recommended, but I was still skeptic. Till I tried it. And now I'll keep it! Thanks a lot dontdrunk for your great advices. It saved me lots of time and improved my knowledge in cruiser area. And thanks Mav for having the good thoughts to create this thread. And also thanks for Husanak (my favorite thread) and I think Matteo for sci. This is my thank you moment. Lol. And time to try boarding party 3 and aceton beam. Lol.
Thanks again guys, great contribution and priceless advices.

its the most able to use them, but it still isn't great. don't even bother going after escorts, you cant maneuver well enough to keep those cannons on them. it is rather annoying to other cruisers to have a vorcha with 4 DHC that wont leave you alone though!

why do we have a bad reputation again? glad we could help!
Also, say you have the retrofit phasers (the ones that scale with your character than you get from the TOS Constitution), would it be wise to keep those until you get your hands on Borg Tech?

Yes. In general the rule is this, if it works well in pvp it will work very well in pve.
For example, extend shields 3 is a great heal to throw a buddy who is being focused fired by three escorts, by the same token that power is a great one to throw to a buddy who is getting harrassed by 4 probes.
By contrast, Boarding party is an OK power in pve. It will knock out a borg cube's shields and weapons etc in a mission or STF, but in pvp it will most likely get either shot down or annihlated by a combination of FAW or <insert science magic>. In addition, even if it makes it through and lands on an opponent, it will in general be cleared by tac team since most folks carry that. Even should neither of those two situations happen, most people can endure the shutdowns of BP and still survive to pew again.
If you want to do a fast space stf run do it with some die hard pvpers.
In terms of the retrofit phasers, yes they look and sound neat but they're really not that great for pvp. The stats on them are middling at best. The same can arguably be said about the "Borg" equipment. Your best bet is to either buy, trade or craft the phasers that have Accuracy.
Most folks tend to like the accurate trait in weapons because it help to cut through the defensive value ships have either due to buffs or moving fast. Essentially, Damage, Critical Hit, Critical Damage don't matter if you can't hit a fella.
I seem to recall the Dilithium exchange having beam arrays that are Acc critd, crithit. Most of my toons tend to use and like those.
Ultimately you ideally want weapons that are Accuracy*3. Those will cost you. A lot.

Everything that is good in pvp is great in pve. There are few small differences, such as aceton beam, boarding party, which are kind of useful in pve, still I wouldn't use them. Aceton beam is cleared with hazard emitters, everybody in pvp has one he, so it's useless. Boarding is cleard with tac team, every pvper has a tac team, so it's useless. There are few more, but are already mentioned in this thread I think.
The phaser retro are decent till you go in pvp level 50, when you should definitely get better. Borg tech mk xi or xii should be better anyways, for both pvp and pve (I think the retros are mk xi blue max anyways). I never used them bc the [borg] modifier is not useful in pvp. But for stfs, are definitely better. Ideally is to get your hands on some purple mkxii from exchange, for when you start pvp, I think the max [acc] modifier is x2, but may be x3 also, just haven't seen those in mkxii. Acc is good in pvp but in pve it really doesn't matter. For pve go with ctrh and ctrd modifiers.

Thank goodness I got a few of those retrofits in reserve until i don't need them anymore
(Kinda abused the fact you can discharge and rebuy a C-store ship for free lol).
Also, should I keep the Ionized Sensor console that fire the emission seeking torpedo?

In short, no.
The cloak hunting torpedo while neat in theory has a longish cooldown and is at best an annoyance at the start of a fed v Klingon match. In a Fed v Fed match without a cloaker it's useless.
Now to elaborate on that, for the most part, on the fed side at least, there's a strong argument against using torps on a cruiser and instead just running a beam boat.
Cruisers have terrible maneuverability and with the 90 degree firing arc of torpedoes a lot of times you won't be able to line up a shot to make them worthwhile. The only exception to this argument perhaps being the Excelsior on the fed side and the Vorcha and to a lesser extent the Neg on the Red side.
In addition, in a general sense, the utility of torpedoes is debatable in the game. They can do crazy damage when boosted by torpedo spread or the high yield torpedo power but an unbuffed torpedo does middling damage against hull. More importantly buffed or unbuffed, a torpedo does pathetic damage against a shielded target.
That's not to say torps are completely useless. There are various sci builds which call for pulling power out of weapons and throwing it in aux and running an all torp boat. When used smartly, an escort can make good use of torps.
But back on topic, another reason to avoid the console is to preserve console slots on your ship. As a cruiser fella, you're already probably giving up a slot for the borg console as well as the +35 percent shield console.
While I don't know what ship you're flying that leaves you with either eight or nine consoles.
I would strongly recommend you be cautious about filling up a ship with pay 2 win consoles. Ships loaded up with pay 2 win consoles hurt/nerf themselves nearly as bad as ships with bad BO abilities.

Well this is for the future, as my Engineer is only level 14 running in his Cruiser Refit. I named it the USS Trajan (I'm a major history lover, so my ships are named after famous people in history. Trajan was the 2nd of the 5 Roman Emperors of the Pax Romana, or Roman Peace).
I plan to eventually work my way up to a Star Cruiser, then maybe think about the Odessey cruisers (but not a Rainbow Oddy, I at least know enough to not do that stunt)

Oh ok, in that case, if you're talking about a lower level toon, I encourage you to try out everything from this console to Boarding party to Aceton beam to extends.
Really, throw everything at the wall and see what sticks for you.
If you do, I think you'll probably come to similar conclusions as those laid out here.
Also make sure to q as much as you can at the Lt Cmdr and Cmdr level. A lot of folks, myself included feel that in many ways those ships and BO layouts are some of the most balanced/fun in the game.

I still sorta miss my Stargazer...
Q?
And I'm already planning to run around in the Excelsior class, and I alreayd have a name for it (The USS Hadrian, Good emporer number 3).
I already have Extend Shield (good for future STF's), two things of Engineering Team (haven't had to use them yet, but I will need to), Beam Fire at Will (even at that low of level it helps out alot), and Science Team (That and EPTS helps out with shields)
Q = pvp queue. He ment to do plenty pvp from low level since it will help you: get a solid gasp on basic pvp concepts since everything happens at a slow pace and also help you level very fast.

Bad Reputation eh?
Please do not use BP3! Your Cmdr Engineer BoFF will thank you for it
Lol. Why not? And I'll make sure I'll get my tac in an ody ASAP. Btw, I'm just kidding, I wouldn't do bp or ab even in pve, where at least they work.
