Patchclient in a state with no response function

I've tried to log in several times today and each time I click the launcher I get the "Trying to update" etc message, and after a few minutes the error "The patchclient got a message while it was in a state with no response function" crops up.

To my untrained eye, these all look normal compared to my usual.

So far I've tried replacing my STOL.exe file and resetting my router/computer. All things that have solved this problem in the past, but I'm still unable to get in game this time around.
Any suggestions?

I've had the same problem since yesterday. Switching ISPs (using my neighbor's connection) didn't help. My traceroute to patchserver.crypticstudios.com looks clean (18 hops, 220ms average).

I was just doing tour the universe and about halfway through I started getting long map load times with server not responding, transwarped to ESD when I was done and had the same thing, had to alt f4. now stuck on retrieving character list.

This is the first time it has happened to me but its kind of frustrating when they spend like 4 days a week doing "maintenance" on everything and stupid problems like this still happen.

    I've got the same issue.

Wish I didn't, wish a dev would post a fix, really wish I could play.

I've got the same prob. This is the third time this has happened to me over the life of the game. The first two times all I had to do was re-download the client. It's not working this time though.

Just tried a newer client, still not working.

Maybe global scale IP ban? I have no problem to log in before patch 4 days ago.

I got a reply to my Ticket on this topic saying 'We can't help you' or words to that effect.

they say its our ISP's faults.

They don't however say what is the problem beyond latency issues.

Really not sure why my tracert and nettest results won't change but the disconnects and rubber banding will go through the roof!

Some times I can log in without any problems ... other times I don't get past the loader program ... others I get stuck on 'retrieving list of maps' Then if I do manage to log in ... rubbing banding is so bad the game is unplayable. however when I run the tracert/nettest programs while this is happening ... nothing has changed.

So why was it working well earlier?

I know my tracert is not amazing (100-140ms) and my nettest is dire (50-100kb/5-10kb/50-100kb)

but if this was the cause of the problems then surely there should be some change in these results between the good times and the bad!

you nettest is indicating the ports are being filtered heavily only your ISP can fix that assuming you are not running something on your pc that will also filter those ports. (like teamviewer or widecap) or have a weak wireless or intermittent wireless connection.

if you nettest showing less than 250 in columens 1 and 3 and less than 13 in column 2 then you will likely have problems with lag and disconnect.

I've had this problem sporadically, too. The only fix I've found is to relentlessly start the game client and accept the crash dialogue every time it pops. Eventually, I get past it and am able to login.

Me too. Returning player coming back to see how the game's improved in the last year - this error doesn't bode well :/ I've seen several thread about this issue and not a single developer response? Maybe I shouldn't return after all.

And I was eyeing some C-store items and everything. Tsk tsk :)

    Greetings,

I downloaded Star Trek Online yesterday thinking I'd give it a shot. I love Star Trek but had heard some fairly negative things about it in the past that influenced my decision to purchase it. Now that it's F2P, I've decided to give it a shot in the hopes that I fall in love with it since I'm a Trekkie.

I tried to launch the game immediately after download and got the message "the patchclient got a message while it was in a state with no response function"

Has anyone found a way to solve this issue? Are these types of problems common with this game? If so, I'd like to cut my losses now while I've just wasted some time and no money yet. I don't suffer these types of issues well. My time is limited due to a demanding work schedule. I don't like to spend my personal free time fussing about with technical issues or bugs.

    Thanks folks.

same here just downloaded the game yesterday and cant update it since, considering the game's final size is around 11GB and the client on the download page is only 3.6 ~ GB then i have ALOT of downloading to do and i cant cuz im getting "unable to establish a connection with the patch server" and some other error with non-responsive state thingy. there is no way on earth that im gonna catch the F2P opening and i was really looking forward to play today so just wondering......WTF is going on??!!!
The least that can be done is....wait let me think...."SAY SOMETHING" like there is an issue with our update server we're working on it. goddamit i dont know why u people release a half installation for download would it kill you if you just released it all at once in one installation instead we're stuck here...happy now
    Thank you very much......

Please restart your PC and network hardware.

After you get the game updated and get in game, you can uninstall Pando Media Booster or shut it down (PMB.exe in Windows Task Manager) if you start getting unusual lag spikes or other network issues.

You must be on a Windows Admin account, or have Run as Admin access to be able to download, install, update, and run the game. If on Windows Vista or 7, you may have to change the level of your UAC settings or turn them off temporarily.

You may need to update or install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. You may need to install or update to the latest Microsoft .NET Framework for your version of Windows and also update to the latest version of DirectX. You may also need to check or change your network settings.

You can try adding the game folder/files to your exceptions list in your antivirus and firewall software. Please see the help menu or support website for the software that you use if you aren't sure how to do it.

At your own risk, you may have to disable your antivirus, firewall, and other security software temporarily while you download, install, update, login to, and play the game. Sometimes the security software will block it or throttle it, no matter what you try or even if you try to add exceptions for the game files in your security software.

You may also have to disable, shut down, uninstall, or disable any: torrent, keyboard/mouse, web browser toolbars, video/screen capture, gamepad/input device, multimedia, Instant Messaging, voice over IP, web browser games, other games software applications before downloading, installing, updating, logging into, and playing the game. Basically shut down all non-essential programs.

If you need further help, when you contact us by a support ticket, please answer the following questions:

What exactly did you try in the information presented to you?

What changes to your software did you make?

    What errors did you get?

I have the same problem as others and I have to ask: Is this an automated response or something similar? Did you even read through the topic before posting a response?

Get the game updated? Get in the game? That's what's not working in the first place!

I guess everyone has already tried that. It's become like a universal solution when something doesn't work in Windows Vista or 7.
Uninstall, shut down or disable keyboard/mouse and gamepad/input device? The game is interactive, right?

Certain regions of the world are not allowed to play PWE games nor have PWE accounts.

The following countries are Banned Regions for Perfect World Entertainment:

China, Macau, Hong Kong, Vietnam, South Korea, Russia, and Taiwan.

This article on the PWE Support Website explains further: https://support.perfectworld.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1635

If you reside in, or have an IP address originating from, one of the above countries, you will not be able to play PWE games or create a PWE account. These countries are banned for legal/administrative reasons.

Not sure how this affects Cryptic's games, though.

Thanks for posting that, HOWEVER, PWE is working with Cryptic to get a 100% answer on this for Cryptic games. Hence why I haven't said anything definite because I haven't gotten denial or confirmation with the various Cryptic and PWE teams yet ;)

That is why I suggested players contact customer support.

Yeah, I thought about that about two seconds after I hit reply. That's why I added the part about how I'm not sure how this applies to Cryptic games, especially once PWE and Cryptic are fully integrated.

Dont worry we know its a Cryptic problem, the same exact issue happens ocasionally when trying to connect to one of their games, Champions Online, and has been happening for months. The only solution we got, and it was fixed by other users, is uploading the Champions Online.exe from someone who doesn't have this problem so the other users can download it and overwrite their's. Had to do that three times with CO and worked every time.

Im not sure if this will help here, but when i saw the same kind of error i couldnt help but think "oh hell, not again...". Anyways, i have to admit that im surprised (and pleased) to see admins posting in the forums so quickly since CO forums seems to be... deserted.

PS: The Cryptic Error program doesn't detect the launcher as a process so it won't let me submit any details using it.

WTF? Maybe I should just shut down Windows to play the game?

Seriously, I havent played STO for some days and logged in today. I was able to play 2 STFs. Then I got disconnected. Wasn't able to start the Launcher or Client since, cause they're unable to connect.
Good work this time. Even better than breaking the queues with every major update.
I wouldnt even care if TOR wasnt down. :(
