Greetings...I am a science officer who was taken from the 23rd century just as we were about to be destroyed by several Gorn ships. I find myself fascinated by the new technology and choose it over refurbishing more familiar tech from my time. This "Ghost Veterans" Fleet has allowed me to pursue explorations and diplomacy in this new time rather than adding another phaser to the war effort. We take all kinds and Starfleet is stronger for it.

    Hi all,

TOS Veterans Fleet is still new and so we're open to suggestions and ideas about how we do what we do. It's the people who join who will determine which directions we go.

We're increasing our organization but there's always room for people who want to become involved in leading the fleet. On the other hand, we're happy to have friendly members on board who just want to socialize and play STO.

Ultimately, we're hoping to find mature (30+), friendly, creative people who have an interest in classic Trek and a desire to share that interest and have fun with STO. We have a TOS theme, but can make room for a lot of creative backstories within it.

See our blog for a little bit of the developing storyline behind our fleet:

    http://sto-tos.blogspot.com/

And our website is setup so you can come aboard:

    http://stotosveteransfleet.guildlaunch.com/

And, as always, remember, you monotone humans are all alike.

We're a small but growing fleet. There seem to be new applications to join every day. Even if we're getting bigger, we still want to remain friendly and open to everyone's ideas and suggestions. We have a fleet leadership, but not dictators.

A lot of the members have been with the game since the beginning and are willing to share advice and suggestions. Their experience runs the gamut, from PvE to PvP to The Foundry to fanfic/RP. We're nothing if not a welcoming crew.

I've been extremely pleased with the people who are signing up, thanks in no small part to our illustrious inspiration, Admiral James Bailey.

To see some of the growing backstory behind out fleet (and we're looking for people with active imaginations who can help us with it), see our blog:

    TOS Veterans Fleet

We wanted to set this fleet up where everyone is just as important as everyone. Since we needed to have some sort of ranking system we decided to set it up with whatever rank your toon is in-game. We figured that you have built them up in-game and they should carry the same amount of respect in the fleet. If a player wants to get more involved with the administrative and in-game planning then we will put you in a Fleet Admiral position.

Everyone has a say in the direction of the fleet and if you have any questions or ideas please let us know.

    Rank Structure:

Fleet Cadet – While Signing up on website and in-game (under a week)
Fleet Petty Officer- in-game rank of Ensign and all new fleet members (one to two weeks)
Fleet Lieutenant - in-game rank of Lieutenant
Fleet Lieutenant Commander - in-game rank of Lieutenant Commander
Fleet Commander - in-game rank of Commander
Fleet Captain - in-game rank of Captain
Fleet Commodore - in-game rank of Admiral
Fleet Admiral – Fleet administrative position (anyone is welcome to take on a job)
Fleet Council – No rank (just for fleet support)

For more information check out the blogspot with a detailed list of our Fleet Rank and Uniforms.

This is a new fleet! We wanted a mature relaxed fleet where our families came first and the fleet came second. We found a group of people with a lot in common and have a lot of fun.

Most of us are life members so we wanted something that will last a lifetime. Everyone has a say in the direction of the fleet and we are all equals.

The ranking system is based off of our in-game ranks. I figured if you became a Captain in-game that you deserve that same respect in the fleet.

We are a Roll Playing fleet where we are working on a backstory to justify older 23rd century uniforms in the 25th century and it is helping us to craft our bios.

Please check out our blog to read a little bit about us or check out the forums in our website. If you are interested at all please fill out an application in our website and read a little bit more about us and get to know the members better. If we are not a good fit then there are no hard feelings. Different strokes...

    If you're a mature (30+) player looking for a friendly, casual fleet;
    If you're a fan of TOS;
    If you want to join a group without lots of rules and regulations;
    If you're an experienced or new player, willing to give or need to get advice;
    If you are creative and like to write bios and backstories;

Then we might be the fleet for you.

We're growing daily and moving into new areas. We're talking about forming a Klingon fleet. And we'll start having silent auctions for the fleet soon. We've been replaying the featured episodes, too, and have been running internal PvP matches. And we should soon begin planning Foundry missions together.

We'll continue to grow, but right now is an exciting time. Especially if you want to take an active role in forming a fun, low-key, friendly fleet, you should check us out.

If you're a TOS fan (you bleed red, blue, and gold--or lime greenish), you're mature (30s+), and are a relaxed, friendly, casual player, this may be the fleet for you.

We're small but growing and have people interested in all facets of the game. We're also developing a TOS backstory collectively--everyone can contribute. And we're creating bios for are characters and sharing them.

In the year 2408 after the Klingon and Gorn invade Cestus III a Starfleet Committee chaired by Admiral Jorel Quinn passed motion to explore other options and possibilities in order to build up the Federation with commanders and ships. "We need to promote exceptional officers quickly. We need our captains leading away teams. Starfleet needs to look at our whole command structure and do what works now, not what worked 30 years ago."

A Starfleet diplomat was sent back to the late 2260's to speak with Starfleet in order to round up several possible exceptional commander candidates and as many star ships as they could refurbish from the decommissioned roster. This section 31 operation was known as Projct Christopher after the 1960's aiforce officer that was beamed aboard the USS Enterprise.

In order to not affect the time continuum the only way to choose worthy captains out of their own time and bring them to the future is to find all those that have no future. The captains must be about to die and taken from circumstances seconds before they meet their demise. They now have to accept that they have no past but have been given a new future. These are members of the ghost fleet.

The chosen captains were given ships that were pre programmed with precise calculations in order to carry out the light-speed breakaway factor to artificially-created time warp in order to time travel back to the 2408.

Once the initial five captain were sent, Starfleet would keep their eye out for any such qualified command personnel to join the fleet and to help fight the war in the future.
    You may be that commander!

Just a warning!! We may be a little nerdy and we have been doing some role playing and bio/fiction writing to justify why Captains in 2409 would be wearing 2269 uniforms. It all makes sense when you are willing to bend the prime directive (as well as spacetime) a wee bit.

Excerpt from The Socio-Topological Evolution of the Federation (2388)
    By Heinrich Schelton

“This is, without a doubt, the worst book I ever read.”
    -Ambassador Jean-Luc Picard

For all the reasons above, and many more, the proper response to the eternal question—Kirk or Picard?—must be, without hesitation or qualification—and without any doubt about its scientific certainty—Kirk.

I have met Jean-Luc Picard. I have been informed by friends that he was recently made ambassador to Vulcan. And I believe he will be an excellent, noble, and wise diplomat. On a purely personal note, I would enjoy a fine meal with him, and have the utmost faith that the conversation over after-dinner wine (perhaps from his own family’s vineyards!) would be spectacular. But he is no Kirk!

The modern-day Federation has become secure. Some say that we are on the verge of a new age of peace and prosperity. There seems much to lose on the backs of poor decisions or miscalculations. As it ages, the Federation moves more cautiously, more slowly, plodding along, increasingly unable to react to the dangers that will beset it. And those dangers will come. My own calculations suggest a crisis period between 2407 and 2413.

During this time, we will not need suave diplomats but men of action. We will need Kirk! The Federation of his day was more robust, more active, and more resilient!

To further demonstrate this point, I will now turn to a neo-Freudian decomposition of the foundational socio-mechanical factors, expressed in terms of Sykor interaction matrices, that have guided Federation culture over the last few centuries. (For an extended discussion of the renormalization problems associated with Bunk Zeitgeist manifolds, see appendix R.)

If you have played the game for over than a year.... looking for something a little different..... you liked solo play so you never really thought of a fleet...... maybe start a new caracter and don't want to grind him up the levels alone...... thought about jointing a fleet but never found one that fit you..... wanted to try to meet new people in similar work and family life situations....

Look no further! The TOS Veterans Fleet is a relaxed fleet for people over 30 years young with a need to be part of a social community where you can be involved as much as you like inside and outside of the game. We are trying to cater for every playing style and we have as many experienced players as newbies.*

Please check out out website at http://www.TOSFLEET.com and look at our blog where we are outing together a storyline to try to justify why we have so many captains with 250 year old uniforms on. Surely it can't be because we can't afford some modern outfits!!*http://sto-tos.blogspot.com/

Send me a pm or even just fill out an application and you will see how good a fit we are. We are more than a great fleet, we are fun to be with!!

    Stardate 82026.42 (10 January 2405)

    Dearest President Okeg,

Perhaps you have heard of me. My name is Heinrich Schelton. I have developed a powerful set of mathematical tools for predicting the development of societies based on a variety of cultural, economic, and psychological factors. I am certain that you have heard of my book, The Socio-Topological Evolution of the Federation. I have taken the liberty of sending a signed copy along with this letter.

I write to you today out a feeling of extreme concern. My calculations demonstrate that the Federation will soon enter an unprecedented period of crisis, one that will threaten its very existence! We must take action to meet this crisis today, before it is too late. The equations leave only one singular option. WE MUST TRAVEL INTO THE PAST and WE MUST ABDUCT JAMES T. KIRK!

I say “abduct” here, but that is perhaps the wrong word. I have no doubt that Kirk would relish the opportunity to come to the future and save us all, once again. My calculations prove—with no offense to you—that the Federation and Starfleet of the 23rd century were superior to those institutions as they exist today. Jean-Luc Picard is a perfect case in point.

I have nothing but the highest respect for Picard. But he would be no match for James Kirk in a fight! The events on Veridian III demonstrate this without a doubt. Kirk’s demise on that lonely world was a terrible tragedy for us all! Since we only have Picard’s version of what happened there, I cannot help but suggest that his death may have been avoidable.

Picard has already shown some hint of, shall we say, a sense of inferiority in his response to my book. Though I hesitate to make such accusations without firm proof, I do not think it impossible that Picard himself was responsible for Kirk’s demise through some subterfuge. I do not know if you are aware of the nature of Earth ethnicities, but the French are not to be trusted. However, I digress.

KIRK IS OUR ONLY HOPE! I believe that Starfleet must have multiple means of time travel at its disposal. I have it on good authority that the starship Voyager made incursions into time every other week on its long journey home from the Delta quadrant. Surely, Admiral Janeway must have brought knowledge of new temporal technologies home with her. I find her career speaks to a level of resourcefulness that is nearly equal to Kirk’s. And she is a handsome women to boot!

Do not believe that my busy schedule will prevent me from responding to any invitation to meet with you personally. Given the seriousness of coming events, I will certainly make the time. And do please alert me if Admiral Janeway will be in attendance at any of our conversations. I could not let the occasion pass without some token of my respect for her. Do you know, does she happen to favor Rigelian orchids?

    Warmest regards,

    Heinrich Schelton

    Dear Kathryn (if I may),

I have been following your career for several years now, ever since your return from the Delta quadrant. You were willing to do anything required to save your ship and crew. Now the time has come to save the Federation itself!

My name is Heinrich Schelton. I do not know if your busy Starfleet schedule—who could not benefit from your advice or seek your audience!—enables you to keep up with advances in social mathematics, but I am well-known in that area. I have sent you a copy of my book, The Socio-Topological Evolution of the Federation, signed, of course, and with an inscription especially for you. I am excited at the prospect of further discussing my ideas with you. I am sorry to say that I meet so few women who combine such high intelligence with such a lovely visage!

The aspects of my work that I must bring to your attention today involve the future. My calculations show that the Federation is in grave danger from multiple sources—almost too many to be plausible! It is as if we are puppets in some twisted game! There are enemies lurking in every quarter of the galaxy, some known and some as-yet unknown, and within the Federation itself! I have recently solved a high-level Asimov equation that suggests the return of the ancient Iconians!

Yes, difficult to believe, I know. And yet we must! The equations do not lie! And there is only one way—equally unbelievable and yet absolutely certain—to rescue the future. We must turn to the past! We must rely on the strength of a Starfleet that was more robust and willing to take chances! We must travel back in time and retrieve JAMES T. KIRK! I fear the delay in doing so has already made matters far worse. My current calculations indicate that a single Kirk will no longer be sufficient.

Once we have the original, I am confident that he can be cloned. Only FIVE KIRKS will be able to save us!

I write you because I know that you are a woman who is willing to take risks. In many ways, you are closer to Kirk than any other current member of Starfleet. You are certainly no Picard! I have approached other members of Starfleet and Federation officials with my proposals, but none have been able to understand either the urgency of events or the mathematical certainty of my calculations. In you, however, I see a soulmate, one who is able to perceive the boldness of my ideas and their rightness.

I have cleared out my schedule for the next several days and eagerly await the invitation to talk more. If do not object, I know of a lovely little place in San Francisco were we could meet and enjoy a fantastic meal at the same time!

    Completely Yours,

    Heinrich Schelton

    To Whom It May Concern,

I, Heinrich Schelton, have decided to take the salvation of the galaxy into my own hands!! After years of showering warnings onto unhearing ears, I now realize that only I have the knowledge and the ability to SAVE THE FEDERATION from the tribulations that await it.

I should have known. My work in socio-topology demonstrates without a doubt and with absolute mathematical precision that the modern day Federation is in a state of rapid moral decay from within. The lack of attention to my warnings is CLEAR EVIDENCE of this DECAY! OUR ONLY HOPE IS TO TURN TO THE VETERANS OF THE PAST! Only in this way can we meet that challenges that await.

I have thus chartered a private shuttle and have made the necessary calculations to execute a gravitational slingshot maneuver that will being me back to the 22nd century, when the Federation was more robust and resolute! More accurately, to 2269, where women were women and men were KIRK! There, I will rendezvous with the USS Enterprise and convince its illustrious Captain, the only, the one, the immortal KIRK, to return with me to the present. If rational arguments fail, I will do WHATEVER I MUST to bring him back with me.

I do not make this decision lightly. But SOMEHTING MUST BE DONE! And QUICKLY!
FAREWELL! I go to save you all, most especially my dear Kathryn. BUT I WILL RETURN…WITH KIRK, OUR SALVATION!!

    Your Humble Servant,

    Heinrich Schelton

And, as always, remember that, given the size of their ships, the First Federation is probably compesating for something.

If you're interesting in joining us or even if you just share our love of TOS, you're welcome to come celebrate out two-month anniversary on May 31 at 9pm EST at Quark's on DS9. They'll be socializing, dabo, and some TOS trivia.
