Leveling hercs on the spiders from the MQ "Tessa's Problem" is also an option, though I'd wait until you and the herc level a little since the boss that occasionally spawns from them has a bit of HP.

If you're not playing in full-screen, try increasing your resolution manually by stretching the corner of the screen outwards. The larger screen will reveal the missing buttons.

Having a zeal (with earthflame) isn't quite as beneficial to a veno as it is to other classes, as we can pull without it. Public quests are available at L60-80, but I started them around the late 60's and leveled through them until around L74 or so. PQs are pretty subjective; they don't offer much in terms of spirit and are a money drain (pots and repairs), but I thought that they were fun.

Yes, a glacial walker's stats at the same level of a magmite will be higher- there won't be a huge difference, but any extra def. on a tank is a plus. If you don't want to level off of staunch worms, you can level your flying pet on foxwing supremes- there's a spawn above the north end of City of Lost that doesn't aggro, which makes grinding a little easier.
