    i dont use either. i use the Airbrush tool ( you can adjust the opacity etc) and also the Smudge tool. i use both on a SOFT edged brush.

    XD Sorry. I've never really used PS/GIMP to do coloring.

    In a digital photography class I had, we would use dodge/burn to lighten/darken areas that needed touching up in the picture. So yeah...sorta why I was confused. XD

    The short version is that Dodge/Burn are tools for subtle fixes to contrast areas, to retouch and improve photos or images - they're not intended as shading tools on their own and are no substitute for actual shading.

    The slightly more complicated reason is, light & shadow have color. Dodge/burn tools shift an existing color's luminescent quality, making it darker or brighter, but using them to shade effectively removes the color of the lighting source from the equation. I can't seem to find a proper image for it, but imagine a white ball on a green table - say the cue-ball of a pool table, that works.

    If you drew/colored that and then tried shading with just dodge/burn, the shadow on the ball would be gray. But realistically, the shadows would be tinted by the surrounding objects as they reflect light - a greenish hue from the table, maybe a smudge or two of other colors from nearby balls, a dusty yellow tint from the lamp hanging overhead (or blue if you prefer to imagine a fluorescent light)... you get the idea.

    I think so far I've done pretty good with just MS Paint Sorry to the original Artist for removing lines and changing some details.. Hard to color the small details when it blurs in zoom.. Just the one last piece to do.. and not quiet sure how to go about it...

    nvm i got it done in like 5 or 6 hours

    here it is :

    heres the steps i went through:

    1.i took a picture in the game

    2.though i dont have a pic of it i printed it off drew the lines then scanned it back on

    3. i went over lines in black on computer and took out some of the color

    4. i finished it

    during this entire process i almost fell asleep at the com twice
    new race the cursed.

    So many great artists in this thread!!

    Well this is mine i actually started about a month ago when I first found this thread, but then i forgot about it lol. Found it today and finished it off. Feel free to throw me some constructive critisism because this is the first time I have ever coloured anything. Please go easy, cos i'm in no way, shape or form an artist of any kind lol. I actually suck at drawing stick figures b:chuckle

    I'm not sure whether the green actually goes, I was having a bit of trouble with the colours of the belts. Bit of trouble with the hair too. Actually I had a lot of trouble with nearly all of it b:chuckle. But I feel like I kind of did ok for a first time, so feel free to tell me where to improve b:thanks

    xD oh wow. And 2 years later it is finally a sticky. Wewt.

    In celebration, here are some lines. Yes, I know they are pink but still colorable I would imagine. It's a character from my fanfiction and also based off of a friend's character before that hair style disappeared.
