If Arc could do these two things, I would consider it quite useful.Desdi wrote:There are people that want to play while having a shop up on another client and others that want to solo instances for Nuema and don't want to bother faction/friends every 5-10 minutes to reset.
Then there are people that have two different toons in two different factions and want to be able to talk in both at the same time.
People that share gear among toons and need to trade between two toons without risking to hand said gear to a "friend" so said "friend" can trade it to them. Why should I risk trading my gear to someone or have to wait an hour for my mail to arrive?
There are many reasons people use multi-clienting. You're right, we didn't have this 5 years ago and we did fine but that's precisely the point; that was 5 years ago. It's been around for a long time and it has been part of the game.
Desdi, I don't know what your situation is like, but you still have options. You can install Arc/PWI on multiple computers, or in virtual machines. Of course this isn't ideal or desirable, but it would still make multi clienting an option until it otherwise gets sorted out.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

JYUUU - Harshlands wrote: »All we see are nubs bitchin for something u have to use once a week for an update.
Now, if PWE/ARC has been making tweaks in the background programming somehow so that ARC will run the game smoother than it has been running since the New Horizons expansion, that would be GREAT! But given PWE's record on the way they go about everything, I am quite sure this would be delusional to think it is the case. IF it is the case (sparkie, rest of sentence for you ), it would be VERY wise to let us know.JYUUU - Harshlands wrote: »Just get over it & quit, lowbie not even dropping 1 cent in the game are always the one complaining.

I'm not talking about myself here but I'm fairly sure I'm talking about a number of people that use multi-clienting every day, for various reasons and not having this option would be very bad for them.
It does affect me too yes. I have only one laptop I can use (other devices do not belong to me) so installing it on multiple computers is out of the question. Virtual machines, I don't know how these work.
As far as I am concerned though, I don't care too much. I was going to take a break either way, been busy, RL stuff. However, I think it's only right to point out to Mr. Soft that multi clienting is a big part of playing PWI nowadays, a lot of people use/need it so they need to focus on it. Yes they mentioned they are but...looking back at the company's history...can't really say they are reliable.
As stated by another poster, Arc doesn't seem quite complete and it's still missing important features (DQ page, multi-client, recognizing already installed games etc.).
Am I against Arc? No. Am I against making Arc mandatory when it still needs tweaks? Yes.[SIGPIC]http://i.imgur.com/MtwcqjL.png[/SIGPIC]

You are forcing a BETA VERSION of a **** program onto a MASS OF PLAYERS THAT DONT WANT IT. What you are doing is single handedly KLLING PWI. This is a HORRIBLE IDEA. Can i stress this enough? I mean seriously how many threads are there complaining about how much people dislike Arc? Or about how people are quitting? How about the fact that most people cant dual client using it....which means that they cant play and have a cat shop open? Seriously the very fact that we are being FORCED to use this **** program proves how little care that PWE has for the players or our wants. I will laugh when PWI goes to hell and most people just quit playing all cuz you people at PWE refuse to listen to a freaking word we have said. Dont force some damn beta version down our throat. Finish the program first work out the glitches THEN make us use it. NOT BEFORE!

It wouldn't surprise me if this was partially a measure to prevent people abusing multi clienting. Right now I don't think (though I could be wrong, as I haven't been paying a lot of attention to the forums for the last few months) they really have any way of enforcing their multiclienting rules, short of threatening to ban people who break them.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

lol,
I used too be one who spent between $20-$100 dollars US every month in this game for about 5 years, but being a computer minimalist, I refuse to run any unneeded frontends such as Steam, Arc or any other gaming frontend, some may say that in some ways I am nerfing my own ability to play some games online, but I see it as they just do not want my money, and because their usage statistics come from the net they have no way to accurately work out how much income they are really missing out on from us computer minimalists.
In some ways I am glad you are doing this, since I decided to leave and take my money with me, my gaming now actually costs me less in total $15/month and I do not have to use your unneeded software to play, thank god.
If you are still having problems understanding where I am coming from think about it like this:
When some people buy cars they want all the addons that are available for that model including Fuzzy dice on the rearview mirror, CB radio, Bullbar and Fox tails on the radio aerial as well, but some of us think that all that stuff is just garish rubbish and just want a plain no options car.
At least car manufacturers are smart enough to recognize this and give us the choice, plus when a newer model with a different body shape comes out they do not immediately cease to offer the old models and support for the old models as well.
I actually love Arc its introduction has saved me a lot of money since I have stopped playing PWI, I did dream of coming back if Arc remained optional, but this has just put the nail in the coffin for me.
Goodbye and goodluck to all the wonderful players I met in this game, I may keep an eye on the forums still, but am unlikely to post again unless PWI does the seeming impossible thing and actually thinks about it.

You're completely giving up because you will have to download an extra program that will use about 3% maximum system resources (and we're going on the minimum system requirements to enjoy the game, to to actually play it) and in the long run will actually provide you with better services that they PWE sites have so far.
God forbid you might have to re-download 8GB of data again. (Though by the time they force it, I'm pretty positive that that issue, along with a couple of other issues will be resolved. It's a known fact that the abilities are already being developed.)
If it's going to take something that small to make you give up, be gone already. You should have left a couple of years ago. Talk about a complete failure. In this instance, it isn't Arc.
And just to re-iterate, if your system can barely play the game, or if your internet sucks so bad that you have trouble just downloading a client, give up and go play outside.
All you will ever accomplish is frustrating yourself and those around you by expecting to get something out of a pile of ****. It's your pile, deal with it. You don't like it, upgrade or find something that better suits what you have. Leisure Suit Larry still works great on a lot of those systems, and it wouldn't surprise me if it were available on Steam for you.
Oh, wait.....
If you can't run Arc, you most definitely can't run Steam.

But, ARC will be good for the people who own PWI. It's a way to gather user information. Everything you look up on the browser? Sold as information to third parties. This is how the internet makes money, and PWI wants a part of it. Even things not on the browser are going to be logged and sold.

Im guessing that as long as they have a handful of peeps left willing to give them 15K+ or more for the next new gears release, they will be okay with everyone leaving. Just think of the profit! Will only need 1 server to maintain for the same if not more income. Need cash - release higher priced gears every 3 to 6 months. Could be a win-win for them. Might even see a GM on their 1 server from time to time again. Last one I remember seeing was Bearclaw, and that was only once.0 -

First off, i will voice my dislike for arc. it sucks. there are several threads on here regarding how much everyone hates arc. i even saw a polls saying flat out get rid of it. I do not like it as now i have to redownload everything on multiple computers thus eating up my bandwith. When i put a ticket in on this at one point i was told to just "copy and paste it from one computer to the other and put a shortcut on the desktop. it will work that way." well, sadly, no it didn't work. ended up having to do a fresh download to get it to work.
Now they are pushing arc on us to where we either use it or leave. i was of the opinion i would try it until i saw the following forum post on the Star Trek Online game forum (which is also owned and run by Perfect World International)
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/352/view/forums/thread/393580/Do-not-install-ARC-on-your-pc-.html
For those of you that do not want to click the link, i will copy here.
As many know, all PWI games are making it mandatory to install ARC to download and play any pwi game. Read the over 60 page discussion about it on the sto forms and you will find out. ARC installs into your brouser and spys on you from the browser even if no pwi game is being played. This is not anti **** code but spy wear pure and simple. It adds several processes to you pc full time as well. Stay far away from any gaming compony that's stealing your info and reselling it. This has to be illegal. Theirs a lot of talk in the pwi community about a boycott to get pwi to remove ARC completely. Fleets in STo that have survived the pwi buyout and years of gaming are all ready planning to move to other games.
This is as bad as SWG when the 100 thousand patiton was sent in asking sony to not nge and sony did it anyway.
Sorry my English not so good .
now, i realize this may just be one person's opinion but it is still a PWI game.

It doesn't have any more tracking in it than 80% of the websites you visit, and you can even opt-out if you want. The password saving ability is also an option and it's got a damn strong encryption on it. Even knowing the method used to encrypt it, I haven't cracked it yet.
please Sylen, Clarify why you say there is NO spyware in the arc software when it wants to install tracking cookies (as stated in another post)

Torrent files/programs in and of themselves are not illegal. It's only illegal if you're using the torrents to download/upload material that infringes copyright. There is nothing illegal about it when a game publisher distributes its games via torrent.
Torrenting sites, on the other hand, often do contain material that isn't authorized for sharing. Those are what tend to get closed.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

If you had any real programming experience you would know the problems between software and hardware compatibility that date to the dawn of computing. There is no magical API that will work on all hardware.
I had the very same problems with another game launcher. It would run on one computer and would not run on another. In that specific instance they used an obscure API within WMI that would break on some hardware because it was not fully implemented for all hardware. It is a known issue that has been around for a while and there are work around's but most just further complicate the issue. This same issue is not only in games but other types of software.
You act like this is something new. There are plenty of posts of people that cant get Arc to run on their computer and I bet the issue is tied to the same problem. Comparing the specs of a nearly outdated game engine to newly written software is pretty poor on your part and I would expect a bit more from you.Marine - Marshall - Raging Tides - Retired
