Well there was a reason for that modpocalypse to happen...

Not really. People were just being douchebags, forgetting that mods are humans too...

Humans being humans about other humans being humans.

It wasn't even that much due to the new moderators themselves, just appointing new moderators right out of the blue was the last straw for a lot of people. Lack of communication, a game being tipped out of balance... and then that.
And so people gathered on MSN and fun things were just bound to happen.

I wonder if Frankie is still a little skeptical about appointing new moderators due to the great modpocalypse of 2010 b:chuckle

Nothing to do with it, since the last time mods were appointed - the community itself chose them.

Correction; the GMs picked the people that the community could choose from. It's a good start, but still...

And the reason they did that in the first place is because of the ragesplosion that happened when they just appointed moderators as they saw fit. As seen in the very first line of this thread.

So I guess it does have something to do with it, just not quite as directly as you'd suspect.

They chose them out of the people who applied, and met the requierments as well. Kritty and Fuzzy were then chosen, and with a huge lead on other candidates, so the community was pleased with the decision.

@Salari - Raging Tide - I do, and I do that all the time. What does it have to do with the post you quoted, though?

Yea, that's also the common method used on Aeria when they choose the mods.
Based on my experience, appointing new mods out of the blue will only bring chaos even if the new mods are actually mods or ex-mods from other games under the same company/publisher. People just need transparency in mods selection.

Well, since Shelly really needs help in fighting the spammers, PWE could actually choose temporary mods until they have a more effective and permanent solution to destroy the spammers instead of relying on the mods to delete every single spam post and spam topic.

Indeed it was a success, not going to argue with that. Just saying that it still traces back to the big forum community backfire.

On that note, I wonder how the whole voting shebang would work out, since we kind of want this to happen in a more timely fashion.

It has to happen soon, and fast. I might not be as available in a few weeks, due to some personal things - and that would mean there won't be any mods available for the forums.

I'd like to see a push for new and more moderators. I've been an active member of multiple forums for quite a few years. From what I've seen most of these other forums are quite dedicated to moderation and it's application on said forums because they understand that they are essentially communities.

I can say that the general "health" of a forum puts a vibe on the community itself. At least for me it does. When you see content that that isn't moderated and spam threads/posts, How does it make you feel about posting and being a part of a discussion community? Does it make you want to add positive content and discussion?

I've been lurking these forums and playing this game since the fish market opened in Dec of 09. I've watched this forum wax and wane in many different ways over the past few years. Five years ago I took a position working for a local ISP that specializes in High speed wireless broadband. After working in both Technical support and Customer service for five years, I feel like I can say, The relationship between a company and it's customers is crucial, whether it's face to face, over the phone, or via the internet/websites/forums. It's a multi-headed machine that must be kept well oiled. It sounds like an obvious statement because it is. The devil is in the details and its how you go about sustaining it that's important.

I feel like they should just appoint some temporary mods then and then a couple of weeks when the spam dies down, they can screen moderators properly. Just a few forum regulars that can be trusted to mod spam threads and only spam threads. No other special privileges or anything like that. If it's a regular poster a threat of a ban if they break the rules would probably be more than enough to prevent any kind of abuse.

Or the GM's could just ad a captcha when posting... A few years ago we had major bump for gold spam on Gaia as well... Now we have to enter a captcha every few posts and there aren't any botting spammers left (we still got some annoying trolls though)...

You'll get used to it eventually... And if it's for forum posts they could probably just install the simple version (gives ppl a laugh every now and then too with silly phrases)... And maybe they could just do it like Gaia around every 4 posts or so...

Sadly as much as i feel this is a lost cause this is not only the case on the forums but also the case in game.

More so the GMs have a job to do with helping players i guess but these are items that other PLAYERS are and would be willing to help out to improve the game. Myself I have suggested this over and over again. To improve the game and its experience is something most if not all would want to do... To be fair this needs a rethink now... When was the last time you saw a GM in game.

As for the forums communication has been parity poor over the last few months as well sorry Frankie im sure they have you up to more than you have time for. A big part of this could be eased by a few people. Hell I would even help out where I could, I do now when people ask for a GM in game "Sorry im not a GM but can I help may be I can point you in the right direction". Several occasions getting the person to the right result or that person in the right direction.

Its not about the time it takes as much but getting it right first time!!!

Perosnally I want to push for new moderators. I believe fresh blood can give them team what it needs at the moment. Even if Kritty will be back in the team, it would be just him and myself doing all the work, so clearly more people are needed to maintain the forums at this point.

    I'm not here? b:surrender

That's why we're asking for more of them, so that the ones we already have don't feel the need to sit in front of the PC 24/7 to keep the forum clean.

What? Did you not read all the posts here?

No one criticized the mods because we already knew they have done the best they can, and we appreciated their hard work.
No one asked them to sit in front of the PC 24/7.

All we ask from PWE is extra help for the current mods to fight the spam so that the current mods don't have to stay in front of the PC 24/7 just to fight the spam.
The current mods really need help to fight the spammers.

Thus, some of us here offered their help to fight the spam.

Some others, including me, suggested PWE to get more mods with different timezone or schedule so that the mods can cover up each other until PWE has come up with a better solution to keep the spammers away. The spammer won't have a chance to spam if there is always one mod watching over the forum.

I know exactly how miserable it is to become a panda, due to unable to go to sleep, just to watch over the forum because no other mod is online to substitute you.
    Been there, and it really sucked. >_<;;;

Well, if the mods from other PWE games have the ability to delete posts and topics, maybe you can borrow one of them to watch over the forum so you can sleep.
