Yeah, but this is yet another Gold-should-be-capped thread, which means at least 58% of replies are going to be by people who don't understand economics, and the other 42% are going to be by people who think they understand economics and like using fancy terms they hear smart people using on Fox news and CNN. b:chuckle

I highly doubt you have a firm grasp on macroeconomics from opinions you have expressed on your blog entries. You have flat out said you liked a market (high gold prices) that would eliminate a large number of potential customers. Anyone with a firm grasp on economics knows that inflation is bad for business when it comes to luxury items. Which is what merchants peddle.

depending on how you are using "blame"

if you mean that they dont influence the value of gold relative to coins, even if they dont control the buying practices of individuals, then you are wrong, as both warren and i stated on the last page.

if you mean blame in the sense that they arent doing anything wrong by using that influence to increase what gold buyers get with their money and decrease what can be accomplished by the average non-merchant player, in an attempt to stimulate more people buying gold, and raise more profits, then you could be right, but in the long run i dont see it paying off, but i think PWI is approaching the end of its life-cycle so milk it for all its worth, and god bless america, or china, or whatever.
"Influence" is an ambiguous word, but let's just say that gold is not a necessity -- hence why it's so elastic.

Perfect World does not vicariously spend people's money through their own brains. People make very conscientious choices on what to buy and Perfect World acts in accordance to what is likely to net themselves revenue. It's not unlikely they run into sales that get them nothing as it's not what people want in that case. In this one, people want rep, they want rank gear.

The only reason I give any credit at all to PW is because it's both they and their developer's fault they put gear in the cash shop demeaning the value of farming gear outright and diminishing almost all of the content in their own game. Other than that, Perfect World acts out of it's own interest to make money but by no circumstance twists people's arms or dives into their wallets to force them to charge for it, nor forces people to fork over the coin, create the markets for merchants, and drive coin upward by continuing demand of elastic product.

Erm generally cash user doesnt raise the price of items, it is the merchants (usually non cash players who buy and sell) who rip profit that does. Cash user could just sell gold on AH or WC (to avoid the fees) and are generally instant bout getting the in game coins with real money. I dont get why everyone is fuming cash user.

The gold prices are out of control in the auction house. I understand its a persons real life money being put into the game. but there is a point where the gold prices should be capped. On Dreamweaver I happen to know who causes the gold prices to be so high but i will not name any names all I can say its greed behind it. Greed will eventually lead to their destruction and eventually they will get bored of the game as a result of their own greed. But yes a cap on Gold prices is definately needed.

People will buy/sell gold out of the AH if there is a cap. Let me repeat, gold cap is not going to work, and gold price will keep going up you believe or not.

which is not to say that PWE could not influence gold prices downwards if they so wished. they very easily could, as Warren among many others have explained. my own conclusion is that --- since i'm not willing to assume the company is utterly incompetent when it comes to making money --- they ARE doing so, and gold prices are exactly where they want them.

I believe this guy speaks the truth. Gold wouldnt be as high priced as it is now, if only normal users would buy gold theyd need. Greedy merchants keep pushing the gold prices until "normal" users cant even afford to buy gold from AH anymore. I have nothing against merchants, its just a way of making coin too, however, it does **** over people that try to farm to get CS items. Greed took over entirely i guess.

all merchants do is cater to people who are lazy, and would rather pay a premium to get something immediately

dont look to blame it on one group of players.... if you want cheap +10 orbs for the good price, take the time to get 100 gold, and buy it from the boutique

people dont want to do that, so that is on them, not the merchants

Trust me, I hate current gold prices, but... Better get used to it. 1.6mil is probably cheap for what future gold will be. Do the best you can to adjust, it isn't going to get better. My first reaction was "**** that Im not buying any gold this time!". But my second thought was, Oh **** its just going to get higher. So either I should give up on my goals, or I need to adjust. I chose to adjust.

As a farmer, i do make money out of the lazy people too xD
Thing is, being patient just doesnt pay off anymore. If you take your time to gather, on next sale the same thing will just be more expensive while the income stays the same. Thats why people tend to rush to buy things nowadays, which is understandable. Cant wait to see what happens to gold prices once packs are out of CS b:surrender

i'd not mind seeing that myself, but i don't expect to ever do so. packs are 18 gold for 50 of them, the only thing about that fact that might ever again change is which packs they sell at that price.

this worries me too. i've never been a farmer in any game --- don't have the patience for it --- but i can see how farmers are important to the game economy, and they're really getting shafted by this hyperinflation. it'll end up hurting everybody, and i can't help being concerned.

short of not letting best lucks be exchanged for 10 mill notes, and adding some coin only items to the game that are worth buying, i dont see how gold will ever go down much again
