Lol massive fail with new lockbox mount

Making the new mount BOP?

Lol, so due to the drop in players, and needing an increase in revenue to make up for the loss, you make the new mount BOP, hoping more and more people buy keys to get one?

I can understand as a business why you thought it might work, but you failed to see what players actually want to keep them entertained and what makes them want to spend money.

Enjoy, because it won't actually make people buy enough keys to make up for the loss, try investing some money in content, thats something i would pay for, but then it's doubtful you know that, as you are so far out of touch with what players actually want!

    This has already been confirmed to be a bug.

    That the mount is currently BoP.

    As for what you got or didn't when opening 75 boxes, you're hardly alone. Opening boxes is always a gamble.

    We'll be converting all existing Owlbear mounts to BOE during our next maintenance, as well as making sure that all future Owlbears start off as BOE.

    So all mounts will appear in people's bags as BOE

    And you can also inform players Ingame?
    A simple notification when they log in would mean you made the effort to correct it.
    As they spent real money!

    As heyrogers stated all existing Owlbear mounts will be made BoE. This means when they go to (re)equip them they will be warned that the item will be bound upon equipping them as they normally would be if it was obtained as a BoE item.

    Even if the players don't see a post on the forums or get notified by a friend they will still clearly be able to tell when the item is no longer bound to them.

    I gotta say: you may find some people who mindlessly click past that warning when it finally shows up (especially if it's going to be days from now) and re-bind their mounts before they realize what they're doing. A short in-game notice/email seems like a very reasonable request to me; I sure can't see the harm in it.

    Or worse, get a second one and delete it. Thinking its useless. The longer this fix takes, the higher the likelihood of that happening.

    I'm not in charge or aware fo the technichal requirements lest I would do one. All I can pass on the feedback...

    But in all truth if somebody is going to mindlessly click past a warning like that then they likely won't pay attention to their in game messages. You can't always save people from themselves.

    Beyond that the amount of people this will effect is a minute portion of the population. Doesn't seem pertinent to spam everybody to prevent a handful of a handful of people from being their own worst enemies.

    ambisinisterr, I know it's not in your jurisdiction, but spamming everybody with one admin message intended to at least help even a very small minority probably would not significantly bother anyone. Not to the extent they'd complain about it.

    You know what bothers people? The un-disable-able admin spam when people get these items in the first place.

    The onus is on the people who screwed up to make sure everyone who has an owl is aware (and they can most probably make sure of that) but it definitely isn't down to the person who might of been distracted by something else etc, whatever the reason, it isn't their fault.

    This is why games company fail, they ignore common sense and don't listen to player feedback, which is what they always claim they listen to.

    Well 99% of your players don't use the forum, so make sure they know of your screw up and how your fixing it!

    Sadly I've gotten quite numb to it.


    In any game whenever I see something strange or unexpected I go to the forums or talk to friends who go to the forums to find out the details. That is the location to find out information.
    Not every bug has to be spoon fed to people and it really is quite shocking to me how much the Neverwinter Community expects there to be a news post telling people what to do.

    I personally am a huge advocate for common sense. Use it. If you don't then you are at fault.
    When I hear that some bozo bought an RV and decided to put it into Cruise Control thinking she could then leave the driver's seat and make a sandwich which resulted in a few million dollar settlement because the manual didn't stipulate there was a difference between Cruise Control and Automatic Pilot I screamed with outrage at the justice system.

    I'm the same way in games. If something is odd ask or look it up before you act. If you act without doing so, most poiniently by checking the Forums for official information, then it's your fault.

    But I'm a heartless jerk on such matters. If you want to see the minor news and information from the developers then expect to have to check the forums. Do not expect a massive notification for every single bug or to be warned that such and such is considered an exploit and you shouldn't do it.

    Use common sense. If you don't I have no sympathy.

    Common sense is all well and good. But, first its not really all that common. And second, it wouldn't help here anyway. There was nothing to say that the mount wasn't suppose to be BOP. Recently many other items were made bop, its not beyond reasoning that players might think this was intentional too. (I'm guilty of thinking the same, until I read here it wasn't.)

    People playing the game were already talking in trade about trying to salvage the mounts because they are bop. Though I hope not, I wouldn't be surprised if someone deleted one in anger already. Muchless the prospect of someone re-binding one after they fix them. Hopefully the word gets out that its a bug, and they are fixing it.

    This ain't some minor bug!

    This is a major problem where people have spent money to get something that is not what they expected.
    Especially with all the other BOP HAMSTER lately in game, how are people to know?

    Please, if you are going to post anymore, try thinking first and look at the bigger picture, most don't go to forums, just because you do, doesn't make them at fault!

    Wrong attitude for a mod! (And that's common sense!)

    Doing nothing would be no response and no action.

    They responded it was a bug - VERY quickly.
    They took action and already have it fixed on the test server.

    Pretty amazing response times if you ask me.

    Ofcourse they want money, they are running a business. its no conspiracy. The lockboxes are profit. Not exactly a secret.

    But they aren't doing silly things like this on purpose to exploit anyone.

    Seriously THIS!

    Mistakes happen. Its how they are dealt with that matters. They seem to be fixing this one pretty quick. There is already a fix going on the preview shard tonight. I'm expecting they might just roll it live tomorrow. That's a pretty solid turn around, by any measure.

    Edited: as I have now seen they are bringing the servers down tonight to fix this, so I give them credit for that.

    System message telling players though would do something though, or a mail to those who have got a mount already telling them would be good.

    I agree with these statements but a "public service email" is actually an excellent marketing opportunity. A perfectly justifiable reason to mention the Owlbear in a different context? As a former PR hack, that sounds positively delicious.

    And moments after they realize that, someone will be slamming the company saying that's the only reason they are fixing it so soon. I probably complain about more than my fair share, but some people will tear them apart for anything.

    In the other game from Cryptic, I have about 12 lockbox ships, 10 Zen store ships and 10 tourmalene bars equivalent shop ships. For a collector that just want the mount(/ship), if the item is BOP (which it isn't) it is not a major issue except for the centralised collection of tourmalene bars (/lobi ), all that one needs to do is switch to the other character to open the lockboxes. However, for players who want to profit from the initial high prices in the AH on the first few days after a new lockbox series is launched, they will dump the first mount they get into AH, get the AD and buy lots of keys to open more lockboxes again. So if it is not BOE, that will disrupt their plans and the delay means more people will get the mounts and demand will drop, so if they put them up at a exorbitantly high price, they may not sell, plus other sellers will undercut them. Having said that, while such motivation may be frowned upon, but it is totally legit, and if the buyer wants to pay the high price, it is a free market.

    If the devs have already apologised for making a mistake and promised to fix it by next maintenance, we should just take it easy and let it be. It is not as if the mount will disappear or something, just keep it in your inventory or bank. If you are upset over bug issues and decide to move on, then it is highly likely you will jump from one MMO to another because even the veteran MMOs have bug issues too (e.g. the other D&D game). If you are upset because of lost profits in AH, then you should be happy to know that the goldselling syndicates are cheering you for your ranting because it hurts their business too.
