Just a rough guess but I think it may be a directX issue. The reason being the other mmo I play Dungeons and Dragons Online has a long standing bug with the intel chipsets and directX 10/11, to get them to run you need to edit the prefs on that game and run it in 9. This may or may not be possible with this game. If it isn't I'll just wait till my new computer comes but ....

I can't say offhand what exactly causes the issue, but I can say that the issue is solved in the next patch.
I have an Idea. I was wondering if looking in STOs game prefs and changing it to those will fix it. I can run STO so...
Keep me posted please, I've been trying your little ideas too. It doesn't yield any results but it makes me feel like I'm doing something other than hit refresh. hahahaaha

Im looking in the Live folder and dont have a localdata folder at all in there. The closest I have is a localdata folder in my Cryptic Studios folder and the gameprefs in that one dont even have any of the gfxsettings lines.

If you are experiencing the blue screen issue, try out the settings I posted. Frankly, I haven't seen anyone try them so I am not sure they will make a difference. However, our programmers believe it will. If you are not experiencing the blue screen, then I wouldn't worry about it. To be clear, the min specs for Neverwinter include an ATI or Nvidia graphics card with 128MB of Video Memory.
ok, thanks for all your help, couldn't wait for patch...got itchy, so i replaced stupid intel chipset with new card and psu, i am in game now and running smoothly...however i can't access the materials from the founders pack...lil' Help maybe?
Yup. I uninstalled and reinstalled too still nothing. Im guessing that Im not going to be playing in the beta.
The \Localdata folder is not created until you run the Game Client. Running the Launcher/Patcher is no enough. When you first run the Game Client, it does a couple tests to estimate the power of your system.

I don't believe the founders pack items are available yet. You will get them once they are released.

Unfortunately, for some it isnt making the folder, and for others it only has one text entry in the file

Hmm... well I think I'm out of ideas. Tweaking the perfs file was the last possible option we got from the programmers other than waiting for the patch. If the file isn't even being properly created, then we either need to build the files manually (which has not had good results) or find pre-built and working files from someone who was able to get it to work (which we have not seen yet).
Sidenote... while I am not sure, I have heard chirpings of a possible patch tonight. I'd give it a 50% chance of happening. If it does happen, it'll be later in the evening... maybe midnight or 1am PST.

yeah it was just a guess on my part as in DDO it has the same issue with black instead of blue screenage.
Remove this line: Prefentry GfxSettings.LastRecordedMSAAPerf 1.00188
Change "Prefentry GfxSettings.LastRecordedPerf 3500.00" to something lower... say 2000.00. So...
Prefentry GfxSettings.LastRecordedPerf 2000.00
that is the only line of text in the neverwinter/live/localdata/gameprefs file
i added your lines to it anyway and it didnt work.
very cool, i'll have to wait for it as well, thanks for your efforts...meanwhile i'll begin searching for a larger psu and better video card, lol.
same with me. Maybe try the other gameprefs file

You're sure that the patch will fix the problem running with Intel Graphics video cards?

That's a very good idea. If it works, could you post what your STO's game prefs file looks like?

Our graphics programmers are convinced that they found and resolved the bug. So, it seems extremely likely that the patch will fix it.
