One very simple reason: To avoid faction splits in guilds so you don't end up with 50 people on one side and 5 on the other.

That would make no sense because there already is a Caturday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Caturday, Caturday just wouldn't work.

You mean the Forum Community, which are the Vocal Minority of MMOs. The majority of the player base doesn't even visit the forums unless they're looking for something specific and they don't post or participate on the forums. There aren't a million+ people actively posting on here.

There's a simpler reason why. They said there wouldn't be and breaking their word would be a bigger PR nightmare than this is.

A less harsh solution would be to wipe out all existing AD and perma ban all parties that exploited the bug leave everything else alone. It's not fair to eliminate everyone's progress after giving assurances there would be no wipes after Closed Beta ended. It's one thing if they have to unintentionally punish everyone, but…
