Official Feedback Thread: Campaign Rework

ontheriverontheriver Member, NW_CrypticDev, Cryptic Developer Posts: 71 Cryptic Developer
Greetings Adventurers!
With the increase in level cap we are taking this opportunity to adjust how our campaigns work. Our intent is that the Sharandar, Dread Ring, and Icewind Dale campaigns remain compelling high level content, while the Tyranny of Dragons Campaign continues to provide an exciting and challenging introduction to campaigns while leveling, and an engaging alternative to the regular leveling content.

The endgame campaigns have been adjusted to bolster players’ combat effectiveness to ensure the content can be played by anyone of level 60 or higher. The combat effectiveness of players in the Tyranny of Dragon campaign areas is adjusted to suit the level of content in that area.

The durations and earnings from campaign tasks have not altered and players should not lose any campaign progress they have already made. These campaigns should now provide additional leveling content for post-level 60 progression. Boon and Gear Score requirements have been removed.

Some item rewards from repeatable campaign tasks have been updated to be appropriate for the new level of the content. Drops have been updated to provide suitable gear for leveling from 60-70.

Tiamat remains as an endgame encounter. Players level 60 or above will be able to participate in the fight, and their effective level will be raised to 70 for the duration of the encounter. The enemies there will continue to pose a suitable challenge.

    Feedback: Boons
Boons have to be updated to fit the new stat curves. I already proposed +400 each to retain the campaigns as a vital part of the character's progression. ToD boons might have to be split 200/400 60-/60+ to adjust both stat curves. Especially Sharandar might be a campaign players want to skip, the returns from the hard-to-acquire T3-T5 are no longer worth it.

    Feedback: 4th Tier boons
This is a good chance to look at those 4th tier boons, who feature long ICDs and are for the most part worse than T1-T3.

    Feedback: Rampaging Madness
The boon has taken a hit with the new stat curves and needs to be adjuste

    Feedback: Endless Consumption
The boon has has suffered usefulness with how LifeSteal works now. Most classes don't need additional severity.

    Feedback: Shared Survival
    Has no viability whatsoever.

More info would be great here.

So a lvl 60 player who gets raised to 70 will have horrible stat curves and therefore be next to useless in that fight.

Old modules will still be limited to x quests per day? Or will there be a system allowing you do do more each day?

Will the boons see an increase in stats? +250 doesnt even give 1% now. Seems the boons should be upped to 400 stats.

.5% boost from a 200 point boon. How does the 2% action point gain boon work. Is it equivalent to 800 stat points according to the newly proposed stat curve due in next patch.

Foes at level 70 have been tuned for a character using the stat curves intended for their level. A character who has been leveled up will have appropriate stats and power relative to their equipment.

No changes have been made to the pace or frequency of campaign tasks, so the rate of progress through the existing campaigns remains the same.

    Feedback: Tiamat scaling
Mixing 60s and 70s is a terrible idea because of the different stat curves. People that are leveling and don't own as much 60+ gear have to be dragged through the fight by others and the *****ing about GS and elitism is already at a peak.

Please stop forcing people into randomized subpar teams and then call the fight "challenging". For ****s sake! Honestly. Please!

Make Tiamat a 70 experience and give it a ilvl + one finished campaign requirement. Leveling is super-easy and there's no need to include 60s in the fight.

Does it work like the CtA scaling? Because if you have good gear there, you are almost OP after scaling. But if you're wearing subpar gear there's nothing the scaling can do for you.

    Feedback: Mixing levels

Mixing levels has historically not been a great move. CTA's like battle for the bridge, helms hold etc were incredibly erratic. One CTA you would go in and demolish everything and the next you would go in and be severely undergeared. This was due to the difference in your teams levels. Personally I think your post works for everything up to Tiamat (as all the rest is solo and while we party for Dread Ring/Sharandar dungeons it's not necessary).

Would really really appreciate if you looked at the campaign boons and adjusted them to the new stat curve and levels. Sharandar/IWD/ToD was far too long and arduous a grind for them to become meaningless.

Completely agreed with this. All but Tiamat could be safely reworked like this, Tiamat would be made awful, more awful, awfuller(?) by this change.

Does this mean, for instance, that if I'm level 63, complete one of the Dread Ring lairs, and the drop is the Thayan Zealot armor, that it will be level 63 as well? If that is the case, will the epic dungeons have a similar level-scaling system implemented?

    Thanks.

While I know that this is a very new change, please evaluate how it is currently implemented on the preview server. A short time ago 13 players leveled from 45-63 were unable to kill Charthraxis as "fighting at level 30."

Would you please explain a bit of the rationale behind why the prior scaling mechanism for ToD areas, which seemed to be working, is being removed? Downlevelling players is NOT enjoyable.

Let me add that even if the scaling works correctly people will still be scapegoating lower lvl players, because you choose this one to be a pug zergfest instead of a premade challenge.

And if you plan to keep Tiamat as capstone content, please fix the ****ing bugs and the lag. This is not endgame, it's endshame.

at least they stopped calling it a raid. Encounter is much more appropriate. They will prob be releasing nice new dung that you can play with your friends.

Like others have said, the boons need another look. Also it would me nice if you could make any of the campaign progression more alt friendly, people that care about alts spend more money :)

Yikes. My "fighting at level 52" TR was able to whittle down about a third of Venfithar's health (mostly*) by himself last week.

*A random GWF showed up and got in a few licks but I didn't notice that made a whole lot of difference other than loss of battlefield control.

    Bug

When trying to enter a campaign area, it immediately teleports me to Protector's Enclave after loading in. The exception being Sharandar which isn't even on the map.

Wow, if they don't scale, think of the rage in Icewind. Now not only do you have to play against the randomness of it, but you have to do so at max level of run the risk of getting a gauntlet or weapon at a lower level.

Boons need to be updated to fit the new stat curves. Otherwise it might no longer be worth doing the campaigns, especially Sharandar.

Items will need to be scaled properly in some way... and I can't see how this will happen, unless the gear itself scales as you level up...

You might want to read the patch notes, especially the one stating that all campaign zones are put offline to force players to test new zone.

    Feedback: Tiamat
Another thing re: Tiamat. Since the need for decent tanks and healers will grow in the next module, that randomized group HAMSTER is even more outdated than before. Instances could fail solely due to subpar compositions, which would make the fight even more frustrating.
And Clerics and GFs might need to use these spells that cause plethora lack for some... so once again: Fix that!

boons need update in amount stats they give new stats curves will make them a lot worse then they are now ,can u pls remove icd from t4 and some t5 boons icd makes them very bad also think this would be great time to block ppl from well of the dragon zone(timat fight is the main reason for it) if they dont have specific gear raking or some specific amount of boons unlocked

Feedback: Tiamat include lvl 60 and 70?
This sounds impractical and like it might lead to many many issues. Characters may be Bolstered to 70, but i think its questionable, that you would list Tiamat at THE end game encounter, but make it available to lvl 60's too?

You Must make it so people have the option to group queue, as well as the option to make a "Warband" in order to group queue more than 5 people

I did read that, but that was the previous patch. I assume since they are asking for feedback on them that they put them up now.

Also, when they were down during the previous patch they were not shown on the map. Now, with the exception of Sharandar, they do appear properly.

That's actually a great idea. Make it so that any current T2/T3/Artifact gear will only be able to be equiped at lvl 60, but will level with you as you continue to level up!

    Feedback: Scaling
Currently the scaling is HAMSTER. I'm unable to complete Forged Fire with a ~17k Combat HR level 60. I don't think it should work that way, because the instance is now pretty much group content and you have to wait until you are in 70s gear to be able to solo it again.

If that's how lowbies will "scale" into the Tiamat fight, you have a major ****storm coming your way.

    Feedback: Scaling
Currently the scaling is of on both ends. I could easily solo Chartraxis on a downscaled lvl 61 CW in quest gear (17k on live). Especially the incoming daming is far to low. The bite and claw attacks only take about 1/5th of my hp. They take about 4/5th on live. In the Wispering Caverns ToD instance on the other hand, i was easily destroyed by trash mobs. The same mobs, the basic dragon cultist, that hit me outside (downscaled to lvl60) with their Acid Stab attack with an average damage of 690 hit me inside of the instance (upscaled to lvl 70) with an average damage of 6900.

Please eliminate this planned changed. It is exceedingly unpleasant to suddenly find your character abruptly weakened in ways that simply do not make sense. It is the opposite of rewarding players for their accomplishments in game.
