It might sound stupid, but i just found 3 person, who does have the same exact name as my TR.
Honestly i dont know much about name policy in NW, but i really wanna know, why there is people out there in my server, that have the same name. However i tried to copy someone's name and make a new char with that name, but it just didnt let me, because the name was already taken, so my question is: If there is a name, which is taken, and u can not make a char with that name again, then why there is 3 people, who have same name as my TR ?

It is a link to the (old, Pre-5th Ed) Wizards of the Coast Website, and their name generator. You can select background, race, class, how the character is regarded by society....and then have a name list generated. I usually pick a first and a last name from the list, and combine them, that way, it is very unlikely that I EVER collide with someone else, name wise.
Is there any kind of block on some very disrespectful names? Saw some in Enclave that were very disrespectful to many peoples and minorities.
You'd have to report the name using the ingame function or the support website, and then that'd have to be added to the name filter. No guarantees that it would be, however, that's the procedure on how to go about reporting inappropriate names.

It can happen even if you don't have a name taken from somewhere else. My first character is the only one with a generated name and twice I've seen characters with the exact same one. Once in the Storming the Keep CTA, I was randomly grouped with a cleric of the same name, which made party chat interesting. (this was before I learned to turn on the @handle under chat options) The other day, I saw a rogue in PE with the same name as well.

Thanks for the info. Been playing awhile but usually don't watch what is taking place in zone chat. Saw a name pop up that made me angry. Will just report it next time.
The filter for non-foul names is pretty weak in this game. I easily bypassed it on a couple of companions for two of my alts. My names are not disrespectful to any person or group of people, just a little dirty for humor's sake.
I used to play another MMORPG that had a serious name filter - it even detected all the sneaky ways people try to create foul names, such as recognizing zeros as equal to "o" and $ as equal to "s" and so on. It also detected repetitive use of the same characters and a lot more. I was amazed by how well it was designed - run out of England.

The uniqueness of how names are handled in PWE games is what keeps me here. It was LOSING my names in SWtOR (names that as a headstarter i got within an hour of headstart) due to server merges that caused me to swear them off forever. If more games used the same system that is used here, i'd be a lot happier.
I am happy i can choose whatever name i want, even if it means i need to share it with many others. I however am not happy that people can choose racist names, don't care for it at all. you wanna be called uberlame***** you can name yourself that. you wanna say something racist to avoid the filter.. i'm not.
i've used one word names and two word names. Just depends on the character. (Some of them would never be willing to claim the name of their parents...) i see more one word names, though.
All them are in the auto name thing so maybe they are used by players who don't give a HAMSTER about rping and are too lazy to bother thinking of and typing another name xD
What I find odd are the characters that are using random-gen names but then actually have an extensive bio typed out, as though the player only got into the RP later, long after they'd quickly settled on a throwaway name.

Oh wow, I didn't know you could turn on the @handle under the chat options. It's always such a pain to have to go click on people or "pretend" send them a tell just to see their @handle. Thank you so much for this Learn something new every day.

I can understand it. My first character has a random generated name and to some degree that bugs me. However, the reason it bugs me is because I care about her and for better or worse her name is part of who she is. To date, I've renamed two chars. My sixth char got a random name because I couldn't make up my mind and wanted to get into the game. Then as soon as I did, a good name hit me. So I spent some Zen lying around and changed her name. Then later, I renamed my second char to make the name less of a joke, but kept her first name for continuity.

You're welcome. You can also hover the cursor over their name in chat, but going into options and checking the box makes it a lot easier.

I do get it, but still find detailed backstories with random-gen names slightly incongruous.
I paid for appearance changes on four characters, two to fix tiny details that were still sufficient to drive me bonkers and two that I had left at defaults because I expected them to be throwaways when I made them. I got attached and could not bear for them to be clones, so I fixed it all when appearance changes were on sale. I felt so much better afterwards.
I've done two appearance changes. My first char got a new hairstyle after months of her big 'fro clipping through the Ilithid robes she's worn since finishing the questline (as a transmute skin now). I also made a few tweaks to her face. My third character got a dye job. I wanted white hair but it ended up more grey. I changed it platinum blonde since white wasn't an option and grey hair made her look old.

Personally, I use names I came up with my self for characters I played in older D&D PnP campaigns. My CW, Calas Myrij was originally a sorcerer in a custom campaign setting created by my elder brother. My GF is based on my current Pathfinder Paladin. Other names, such as my GWF (Urdnot (As if it's not obvious where THAT came from.)) is based on things I like.
Is there any kind of block on some very disrespectful names? Saw some in Enclave that were very disrespectful to many peoples and minorities.
I don't know what you mean by "disrespectful", but we had a useless GWF in our party a while ago that had an really juvenile, obscene name that would be blocked in chat by the profanity filter. And might even get censored here. If not censored, I'm sure it would be deleted.
OOPS! I typed it to see if it would get blocked, and it wasn't!
I use completely unique names that hold some meaning to me. I will admit that my current in game name only came to existance about a year ago, but its from my D&D campaign that I am a player in (pen and paper version). I also have names from when I played WoW and other even older names that I sometimes use. I think I have like 5 or 6 names that mean something to me.

I use names that seem to suit the character - both here and in pen-and-paper RP games (which I have been playing for nearly 25+) - names that somehow feel appropriate for the race/class combination in question.
Hoping for improvements...

Just to be a bit clearer, there is a filter for offensive names but it can be avoided or certain words may only be offensive in context. As such please do report any names you find offensive.
However, as pointed out many times, Neverwinter uses an @handle system which is unarguably superior to the stereotypical MMO 'sorry but if you want this name add numbers!' system. Only one of your characters may have a specific name but players may choose any name they wish whether another person has chosen that name or not as long as it conforms to the naming policy which is nothing more than keep it...mature...and not mature as in vulgar.
My first character is called Refractions of Dawn. She's a Tielfing Healer of Amaunator. And she IS a Healer. My Dwarf DC is not; he's a Battle Berserker War Priest of Clanggeddin Silverbeard.
One of the games I really enjoyed in the past was Icewind Dale I and Icewind Dale II, Heart of Winter/Heart of Fury. The Heroes of Icewind Dale in my party had an Aasimar Druid called Contractions of Fate and a Tiefling Enchanter/Thief called Consequence of Grace. So I made them Refractions of Dawn's parents and she was born in Caer-Konig. And this was before I even knew there was going to be an IWD module in Neverwinter, so it worked out well. She is actually 1/2 human, 1/4 Celestial and 1/4 Infernal, but her Tiefling blood line seems to dominate. They relocated to Neverwinter when Refractions of Dawn was four as her father did not want to become Grand Mayor of the Ten Towns.
She hates the cold and Auril the Frost Goddess, while her father's elemental Druidic abilities drew her towards the Sun and it's life-giving warmth. She became a Priestess of Amaunator and has spent the last few years spreading his light to the darkened areas of Neverwinter, granting the gift of Peace Eternal to the Undead filth that pollute the shadowy places.
All my other characters have names and backgrounds equally detailed. It's probably 30 years of being heavily into AD&D, but I cannot even play a CRPG without having an actual character to play. I'd no more use a random name generator than stick needles in my eye.

It's the disrespectful racial slur names that get my goat. Those I find to be the most distasteful.

i personally like 1 word names so what is what I use. I also do not RP so that may skew my opinion.
Should be a few more of those by the the time you read this. ( If server is back up :P )
