You are likely experiencing frame rate drops based on what you are describing.

That is not lag. That is a graphics and optimization issue.

The devs are aware or the optimization issues which occurred along with the release of Module 3 and are actively trying to improve it with almost every patch. It's still far from perfect but the issues are being resolved as they are found.

For now the best thing you can do is lower your graphics settings. It won't make it perfect but it will most times make it far better until the optimization issues are ironed out by the developers.

No it's not. Why is everyone spreading false information regarding graphics? It has happened to me too - Sometimes a simple relog can magically fix my lag problems. Most of the times it won't. This form of lag has been introduced since after Mod 3 and was very common in the IWD area. There have been several times where I entered GG pvp and the rubberbanding was so awful that I had to relog 3-4 times only for nothing to get fixed and I didn't get to score. Even the timer I was seeing for it was like 2 minutes behind than the actual timer the rest could see.

Bottom line: the lag is REAL, at least for many of us Europeans. The game has never been as laggy as it is at the moment. Many of us have almost stopped playing while waiting for this to be fixed, only to realize that this is being treated as separate cases and not as a known issue?

That's right is server lag, nothing related to graphics, I keep receiving "Server not responding" for many minutes with min/max graphics, this doesn't matter. I used to play perfectly since September with 0 lag in GG, PvP, whatever. Since the mod 3 is live, I'm unable to play as I used to do it.

my netgraph never improved, since co it is 250ms+ on a VERYGOOD day lately since one week before launch of m3 it was 350ms+ usually hitting 500ms, been this way every time I log to talk to friends, do cta or whatever.

That said, they really should improve the game for users of Intel HD graphics 2500/4000 as it is a big part of the users I am sure since it is on most laptops and low end PCs. also neverwinter really dont play well with win8 and thats neverwinter fault, win8 sucks I agree but microsoft cant really patch your game can they? so yeah... please do what you can to make it more playable on low end machines and win 8, you can only get more players this way.

Ping and netgraph are WORTHLESS for determining lag.

Run a traceroute to identify the EXACT servers that are causing your lag.

    +1

the day before the patch was good. two days after, the lag back and today once again became impossible.

"Lag" from Cryptic servers would be where the RED response time below is >150-200ms. And ONLY the red one below. ALL the other servers are NOT Cryptic and Cryptic can do ABSOLUTELY nothing to improve THEIR lag problems.

Usually it's that #13 hop (te4-2.ccr01.bos06.atlas.cogentco.com, God I have that address memorized by now -.-) that causes latency spikes...I can run two traceroutes one behind the other and get vastly differing results on that hop alone. That's been a thorn in Cryptic's side since before NW went live (go take a look, for instance, at the STO tech forum....loadsa complaints there).

They've been at Cogent for well over a year and nearly two now...alas, high speed, high volume data providers don't exactly grow on trees.

Traceroute doesn't show anything useful - it shows response time of the internet routers between you and server. Believe me, responding to your traceroute is last thing these routers do, so if they do anything else - like forwarding traffic, they will respond when they can.

Traceroute will eventually give you some info in case you have network issues like disconnects or unable to connect to server, but lag in neverwinter is not network issue. It is obvious for anyone with some brain, that lag is caused by server overload. And I don't mean network overload, but CPU/memory overload.
It is obvious that group instances of each dungeon are running on separate server. Sometimes when you get into dungeon with "not so overloaded server" it works perfectly, if you go to different instance on same dungeon, it is lagging badly.
The least Cryptic can do is to introduce some payable service which puts you on separate, not-so-overloaded server, where you can play normally if you want to spend some money.

Rubberbanding is lag. Frame rate drops are not lag.
That's not false information. That's the truth.

You said rubberbanding. The OP did not. The OP specifically said they are experiencing lag in dungeons. Almost every players who complains about "lag" in dungeons say they are experiencing low frame rates.

Even my monstrous computer has been having frame rate issues within dungeons since M3 but in talking with players about this they tend to see a frame rate drop and say "OMG I am lagging badly." As such I can say it is more than likely you are talking about apples while the OP is talking about oranges.

However eldarth has given some stellar information on how to investigate any lag you are experiencing.

Just remember, frame rate drops are not lag. If you experience a drop in frame rate and you call it lag you might as well be complaining the cake tastes bad while you are eating pie. While there's no question it's a problem it is a completely different cause.

At first, sorry for my bad English.

    I am from Greece too.since last week,GG PVP is UNPLAYABLE!I end up having 2-3 minutes delay,i can't move,i can't do anything!
Domination PVP,has also issues,i can't play either there, but the problem there, isn't so big as in GG PVP.

Now,i tried to log in,and in PE i have the same problem as in GG PVP,i can't move.
My ping is 30 ms.I know exactly when something is wrong with my network, and at this moment, everything works perfect.

I wonder know...it's been one month since Module 3,and you are still trying to fix issues. In 2 months Module 4 will launch...what is going to happen then?

    hi!
I don't usually have problems with lag (EU), I also have "new" pc (with new HD R9-270), but ie. in Karrundax playing is almost impossible, like client is overloaded, everything is delayed for about 3-5 seconds, even opening chat window and informing fellow party members that I don't know what's happening around me.. I've tried to switch to EU proxy but that does not help.. same result.. cannot trace why, but I did have feeling that this problem start when ash-disciples show on screen and start attacking.. in the same time 2 of five party members didn't have problems at all.. and we are from same region.. all that started after mod3 release..

Not possible? The game would be timing out with that length of delays.
However saying you can't move sounds more like the game is not rendering. Lag typically allows players to move but 'rubberbands' them back when the client synchronizes with the server.

Can you open up UI? If the UI delays that, again, is not lag but issues with optimization.
Have you tried looking at the stickies dedicated to checking your internet connections?
    snip

What you are describing is a low frame rate. I had the same exact situation occur the other day in Spellplague caverns after the first fight. The delay you see is actually what happens when you play a game at 1-2 FPS. Lower your graphics settings and relog. That reduced the problem for me.

As I said, the developers are aware of optimization issues which arose with the release of Mod 3 and are continually trying to improve the situation. For now lowering your graphics is the best recourse.
    zacazu wrote: »

That's to be expected. With computers you will always only have the potential to run fine. The specifics of your hardware, your ISP and the route you take to connect will all behave very differently on every piece of software you use. You may not notice it most times but it occurs all the time.

The graphics issues are being looked into. The lag issues...well the internet is a complex beast. Saying you have lag issues without a trace route, though, leaves absolutely nothing for Cryptic to do as the issue is not with their ISP but rather various ISP's we traverse through in order to connect with the servers.

    tnx ambisinisterr,
my settings are already on low, except screen resolution (22' monitor), and that's funny for gpu which can easily swallow 4k resolution.. I should also mention that, in example, today i have problems in Karrundax, my friend does not.. next run/day he have problems, and I don't.. something is fishy there.. I'm glad that team work on issues..

I have a GTX 780. In short my graphics card scores about 8 times better than yours in various tests and I have frame rate issues in certain dungeons. I went down to minimum settings and still only had 30 FPS in SP and often dropped to 10 during intense fights.

In the mean time I run through PE on max settings never dropping below 60 FPS and goodness knows people complain about the frame rate in PE.

Issues with optimization cause hardware to work harder than it should. Cards like mine should be able to play any game on the market and never break a sweat running only at 60Hz but since M3 there are situations which result in almost complete stalls.

Next time you see the problem occur type "/showfps 1" without the quotes in the chat box. Your FPS will show just above the minimap. I had 1-2 FPS in SP Caverns. It's on Cryptic to fix those issues but it is not network related.

And each piece of hardware works differently. Just because you have a better card does not ever mean you have the better performance. It only means you have the potential to have better performance. You could have the best card on the market and be outperformed by something as horrible as an Intel HD chip if there is an issue with the code either from the software developers or with the hardware drivers.

So yes some people are effected more than others. Usually more powerful cards will experience less issues because they can "beast mode" through optimization issues but that's not a rule. It is entirely possible that somebody with an inferior machine on paper does not get effected by issues that superior machines are being effected by.

EDIT - I played a game a few years ago where all AMD users suddenly got stuck in an unplayable 1-10 FPS. People running Intel HD or NVidia were happily enjoying the game as ever but if you, like me, had an AMD graphics card the game was unplayable.

I get server not responding up to as long as 5 minutes during switching of zone. During play time of any skirmish or dungeon, especially 'Master of the Hunt'. Right from start when I run to the camp fire and got server not responding for 1-2 minutes, the next moment I see my toons back again from starting point running to camp fire again for 2 to 3 times. Also during fight everyone seems to stop there (including monsters) but those that are running were running on the spot (obviously not graphic problem), the next moment I found my self dead already.

Lastly games are suppose to entertain not frustrating you.

When the launcher starts (the place where you initially type in your username and password) click the word Options at the top.

Make sure On Demand Patching does not have a check in the box next to it. Then the next time you log in the game will have a large patch but you will no longer get the micro-patches when switching instances. Those micro patches are more than likely the cause of your woes in zone switching.
