So following news I understand that this module is for PvP. How I supose to play this game if I want just PvE? I can't support (to buy) this game for next module because is nothing for me. Why they can't make to same maps for PvP and PvE?
but yes, PVP gets a lot of improvements in next module, to be honest, pvp systems arent very good in this game at the moment... 1 mode, 2 maps, at least matchmaking a leaver penalty after last patch, not so impressive, it really needed some addition im very excited for PVP campaign and open world PVP hopefully we will get lots of different objectives to do there ^^ capture points, flags, loot from monsters or enemy players, maybe some siege weapons? it would be awesome
Hopefully there will be things to do in the new area that don't require you to sign up for the open-map PvP. If everything in Icewind Dale requires you to join a faction (signing up for open-map PvP), then there is literally nothing coming in Module 3 for those of us who just want straight PvE with the exception of a new Paragon Path if you happen to be a HR.
I don't mind the pvp focus, as long as the permanent stat upgrades (like the boons from older campaigns) arnt gated behind pvp. This would be a huge dis-service to the pve community. I hope VERY strongly, this black ice thing you have to pvp over is not a 'requirement' for maxing out your character.
I also hope either a new race, or new class will be introduced. As one should be every module.

Well every other permanent stat upgrade is gated behind PvE content... just because you're a majority does not mean PvP players should have to do PvE for EVERYTHING. Forcing a PvP player to PvE is just as bad as the reverse, or nearly anyways.
There will be an open pvp zone as far as I know so yeah.
I just wonder if there are any other PvP sets are comming...keeping my SoT with me for now
As I'm reading it, offering "both pve and pvp contents" probably means that pvp is opt-in rather than forced. Cryptic won't risk to force people to pvp in a pve-designed game, especially with the current state of class unbalancing.
I wouldn't worry that much. I feel most content is pve based, aside from some special quests that will somehow temporarily "flag" you as a member of a faction and allow pvp.
no point of pve questes and bosses when we have to do it in pvp zone so i hope we will be able to go to pvp unlcoked or pve only zone and we wont need to go to pvp unlcoked to get black ice and other things for new pve gear

D&D is pve game and hope they wont ever change neverwinter in another pvp focused game
well, considering neverwinter is a PVE game with slapped on pvp, having a module so heavily geared for pvp, kinda makes me wonder if its gonna be worth sticking around.
it is a pve game, it was designed as pve co-op from way before even beta. pvp was slapped on. you do have GG, and 2 maps, more than enough IMO.
there needs to be much, much more PVE content.
and, so far, the ONLY thing we know, is PVP, PVP open world (instance, or wuteva). PWE has only mentioned lightly pve, and heavy pvp by the way i read it.
if, it is heavy focused pvp, i am out of here. if i wanted pvp; i would go play a PVP GAME.
pvp does not belong mixed with pve, there has not been a game that succeeds in acomplishing it, the reason, 2 different play styles, 2 different motivations, 2 different goals, and last, balance, you balance for pvp, and screw over pve TIME AND AGAIN, in every game.
separate them, and hire different developers for pvp. let them do there own thing and leave pve for pve.

that's my 2 cents, can i get change for that?
i agree new zones should have been pure pve but how much i read what they posted both new zones are pvp unlocked ;( i still hope we will be able to chose to play in pvp unlcoked and pve only version i do not see point of feeding pve players to pvp trolls being forced to play in pvp unlcoked zone to progress pve is just bad
1) mod3 has already been (mostly) completed, they won't go back and redesign it from scratch, so there's little we can do to influence the big picture
2) mod3 should be on preview soon, let's wait and check what happens
You could say neverwinter is PvE based but there is also a very large PvP community. You could also say if they aren't continuing to update PvE you will leave. Personally, I only play the game for PvP. If they weren't going to be interested in updating PvP, I would leave (and did for a period until the most recent updates got rolling and new ones announced). Look at all the PvE content that was added compared to PvP over the course of the game since its release. Do you not think its fair that some attention be given to PvP after all the PvE focus? This module isn't even entirely PvP they have said.
Another thing is that many of the PvP players are the ones spending the most money on this game. In PvE you aren't going to need max artifacts, full rank 9-10s, perfect weapon/armor enchants, where in PvP it makes a much more significant difference when you have these. A lot of PvP players are willing to pay for these kinds of things if it means significantly less time spent grinding away at PvE. Also, people who play the game for PvE are likely to end up more wealthy than those who PvP just based on the reward system between the two in this game and the fact that PvE players generally don't mind grinding as much. This means PvE players will have less need to spend money to get things they want and be more willing to grind for it rather than pay.
This game is developing fast and there has been lots of PvE content added since release, but PvP hasn't gotten much attention. I don't understand why there is so much venom for taking notice of the large PvP community for this one (of many updates) despite the fact that the common perception is the PvE community is larger. I + many others play the game for purely PvP content and wouldn't stick around if PvP wasn't getting this recent attention. Since people tend to think the PvP system is lacking, this will also draw in more PvP oriented gamers, but that doesn't mean the game will completely lose its PvE focus. It just means after many PvE updates they decided to use one to expand the game's capabilities to appeal to a wider audience and maintain/create a larger player base.
In any reality, virtual or common, the biggest monsters are always the other people around you, for me, open pvp areas would only add to the excitement of the game, and up the difficulty in what is a far too easy pve arena.
Devs have never said that Neverwinter is PvE focused game.
D&D is not balanced for PVP. That's mostly why D&D based games are PvE games. In PvP games, like DOTA-clones, characters are built ground-up with balance in mind and with no constraints. In D&D classes have very specific perks, if you mess with them people will get upset, grab pitchforks and torch buildings on their way to Cryptic/PWE headquarters.

This. In the 15 or so years my spouse and I have been playing MMOs, we have seen easily over a hundred games come (and many of those go), we've tried dozens of them (hate to admit), and rarely if ever does any game get both PVE and PVP right. I don't know what makes the creators of this game, think they are going to succeed where everyone else has failed, because there's nothing substantially different here than we've seen many times before - and they already have a poor track record of managing and balancing both models. The more you enhance one model, the more the other suffers. And then nobody really wants to play either style.
Like many, I'm here for the PVE. And not interested in all in PVP in this game, at all. There's nothing that would make me change that. I play other games when I want to pit myself against other players that are designed entirely for that purpose.
They don't have to. The acquisition of the D&D content license speaks for itself.
You can go better then that. You don't even have to use D&D. Simply look at ANY Cryptic game to see PVP has NEVER been a central focus to them. Unless someone honestly feels the vast desolate emptiness that is STO and CO PVP is simply the result of unintended flukes.

I can even remember one certain developer (not giving any names), openly stating that PvP has no place , at all in mmorpg's (CO, in this particular case).
Luckily NW seems to be going down a different road, at least for now.

Did you even read the Module 3 announcement ? there is some pvp but there is also a nice amount of pve stuff , I doubt they will force players to pvp who don't want to , it all comes down to how they have decided to separate the pvp and pve since they both use the same maps , it is hopefully going to be patched onto the preview server this week so not long before we can find out but to be honest I wouldn't worry about it.
People are assuming waay too much before knowing more about the new module.
We know for a fact that it will have both PVE and PVP content, how much of each one we won't know untill the devs give out more info.
Well every other permanent stat upgrade is gated behind PvE content... just because you're a majority does not mean PvP players should have to do PvE for EVERYTHING. Forcing a PvP player to PvE is just as bad as the reverse, or nearly anyways.
This is primarily a PVE game. Although I like the idea of a PVP-focused module being primarily a PVP player nowadays, I understand the argument that every vital boon shouldn't be gated exclusively through PVP
The more you enhance one model, the more the other suffers. And then nobody really wants to play either style.
Yep. If you don't focus on one model, chances are that you will break both. Or at best, have mildly uninteresting content that doesn't really appeal to anyone, because most people who like pvp will look for proper pvp games, and those who want a coop pve experience will look for games with solid pve content as well.

While I understand your concern I find it Ok to give the PvP community more playground. And honestly I'd like to fight regular PvP matches more than doing repeatedly the same quests over and over again. A PvP match is always different and alot more challenging.
IMO its ok to get certain boons only by PvP.
Suggestions to improve NW:
- Dualspec
- Better rewarding foundry and foundry pvp maps
- Custom PvP leagues with leaderboards instead of the current 'matchmaking'.
- Armory
- make jumping cost stamina (to reduce hopping in pvp)

Then there was Star Trek Online, another Cryptic game, where a dev stated that they could remove PvP completely from the game and it wouldn't have a major effect on the game.
I hope those are PvP focused (+tenacity, %chance to penetrate tenacity, effects that proc only against other players and such). Another "Blood Crystal Raven Skull" would force even more disgruntled PvE people into pvp...

This is not true. I have found games that equally incorporate systems involving both PvE and PvP. One in particular that even was PvE focused but still spent time on PvP with a large PvP base much like neverwinter. The game is still going strong and has been around for many years as a popular mmorpg. The reason Neverwinter is developing this content is because they have seen a significant portion of the population spending their time/money on PvP. People, like myself, enjoy this game's pvp. We aren't out like you say "looking for proper pvp games". If that were the case the PvP player base wouldn't be large enough for them to want to focus some on PvP. Neverwinter PvP may not be perfect now, but its fun and we have seen it getting attention it needs to help balance it out. Things like the recent updates involving new gears/tenacity do not even impact PvE experience. Perhaps this is the direction they will be taking with regards to PvP balance from now on, in which case you wouldn't need to worry about "breaking" the models either. Also, I know many people who enjoy both aspects of PvE + PvP in their games and get involved in both. There is no reason why a game is required to be defined as purely PvE or purely PvP.

I'm both a PvE and PvP player and I'd just like to say it's really nice the PvP side is getting a boost to add more variety to this game. I would like it if the low level skirmishes were available to higher levels though since I miss a lot of the old skirmishes. Maybe make them a little harder as it doesn't feel challenging when playing PvE as it does in PvP.
