Is Cryptic Trying to Lose Their Players?

Like many of you, I'm floored at some of the changes to the upcoming patch. Clerics Hammer getting nerfed. CWs, and GWF being nerfed. GF's Stalwart's set being nerfed, the list goes on.

(Other) People have spent hundreds of dollars on this game, getting the right spec, buying and transmuting the right gear, slotting the right enchantments, and... there goes their class/build/gear in one patch.

Here's my thought: People are going to close up their wallets fast (and maybe leave game). Perhaps Cryptic will get a wake-up call when the money stops rolling in.

Thoughts?

Developer team, especially Combat Designer team, doesnt know environment of this game. They dont know what they're doing from the very beginning. Look at the first class introduction of this game. Take an example of GWF, in video, wicked strike became the very basic attack, but the fact, sure strike is GWF very basic attack then we have Reaver which is totally failed and changed into mighty leap. These are proofs that Devs didn't know their game, so they keep changing everything from time to time, make new problems, without solving the real problem.

This is pretty typical for Cryptic. I dont expect its going to change. Old timers can remember the sweeping changes to CO days after launch and the months of balancing that followed. STO had similar issues early on. Escorts where king, then cruisers became unkillable, mixed with dozens of changes to science powers. I still remember the rage from the subnuc nerf.

The point is cryptics expectations of how things should be progressing in game, are often different from ours. They has access to data and metrics we will never see. They will generally make changes for the bigger picture, even if we dont agree with it. And often times they dont always seem to make any sense.

Experiened players know not to get too invested in any one build until several months after launch.

i think as they nerfed it they should of added new character levels, instead of being stuck at level 60, it is a pain as i do like to do some missions on my own and now my character has like no power to do it, and i dont like the way u cant unlock all of the characters powers max

No I don't think they are trying, I think they succeeded
3 Classes hit with a nerf bat so hard they reached orbit! (2 of which were already not much fun to play and the 3rd unwanted for most stuff)

The devs don't care as long as there are players spending tons of money buying freaking unicorns and singing the praises of the fluff.

Welcome to MMO. Expect your character to be nerfed. Then buffed in a couple months. Then nerfed harder. Then buffed again. Then nerfed. And nerfed. And buffed. Etc.

Only really bothers people who gotta play the Best Deeps Evar!™ and get annoyed when their flavor of the month gets changed. (Saw this happen over and over and over in WoW. As I happily just kept playing my OP/now it's HAMSTER/OP/now it's HAMSTER/OP/now it's HAMSTER Hunter)

You must be the only one who asked Criptic to nerf the classes? Because everyone else is up in arms but people like you are the ones used solely by the devs to say look one guy who says the game is too easy. Gimme a freaking break.

Been playing Cryptic games a while so Im used to this. I dont even get upset anymore.

In this game, all I play is a Control Wizard. I made adjustments when Cryptic nerfed our best spell against a single non controllable target (Ray of Enfeeblement), then they hard nerfed one of our best feats for defending ourselves in close range (Reapers Touch).

Now, another close range defense feat (Severe Reaction) is being nerfed.

I will wake up the next day and continue on.

I have two toons and both nerfed big time. I left Rift because of all the nerfs and grinding. Nerfing only causes problems. Why not fix the many bugs and broken dungeons and the bots reported? This nerf makes playing not very fun and will save me money in the long run. I won't be spending any more for screwed up characters. Have already started going back to my old games after this HAMSTER. Maybe they should remember STO and what a failure that is to NOT repeat the same stupid mistakes.

Not me.
I have my 50% mount, the different areas are so small, so no need for faster mount.
I have my crappy cleric pet

I havent spend a single $ ingame , you could do the same.
No one says that you need to buy your gear or have some rare pet or epic mount.

The GWF and GF set nerfs are very welcome to me. GWFs are too tanky in pvp, GFs do too much damage in pvp (and probably in pve). I know it, i play one. I don't mind about the changes to the CW class. Won't make a great difference to me. I'm annoyed by the hammer of fate nerf. I will just stop playing 5 vs 5 pvp with my cleric since i won't be able to get kills. But the PvE changes are insignificant.

He runs around in 14k Gs i gues. Of course the game is easy for him. The way T2 are suppose to be done after update, you need T2 gear and purple enchants to start farming T2 dungeons. /Logic.

That is the nature of MMO. The devs are looking at the metrics on what are most popular class, dps output, defense, spells, etc etc. They are trying to balance to THEIR vision (I learn this from other MMO in the past) sure, sometimes their vision and ours match and sometime they don't.

Long time players will notice a trend and go with the flow. In MMO, balance is important to promote "equal" play and longevity. People WERE complaining how easy is this and that and the devs are looking into the metrics and see what they can do.

Nerfing and buffing is easier to do while they are working on mechanic fixes (harder to do)
To grow old is inevitable, to grow up is optional.
Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.

Nope. My GF has barely 10k GS, and my CW hits 10.5k. Yes, with my cleric, it's a lot more, but i'm still experiencing "low" GS gameplay.

Its actually a pretty brilliant move on their part. Everyone has an awesome spec, then nerf it next patch so everyone has to respec... which as we all know costs money. Its a matter of business, and like it or not this game is business.

PWE have usually given out free respecs when major class changes have been made. ...

the changes and response from the players is par for the course for 99% of MMOs on the market...
A world to defend
A city to protect
innocents to save
"Why?" They ask "they hate you"

Hammer of Fate: This power dealt far too much damage overall...

We had one spell, and it's a daily, that actually did noticeable damage, and OMG NERF IT? Would it be too difficult for at least one person at Cryptic to find out what a DnD cleric actually is? Clue: Clerics are not healbots.

When reading over replies from players you would think that no one has ever played an MMO before. These balancing acts that developers go through regarding characters happens All the time in Every MMO Game. If I had a $ 1.00 for every (I quit thread) I've read on the World of Warcraft forums when Developers made changes I would be so rich right now.
