I'll tell you how you fix this HAMSTER once and for all...
stop making POS instanced based, gear chasing garbage themepark FREE TO PLAY mmo's and go back to decent mmorpg's with monthly subs and all the current useless young people from the handout generation and Chinese bots that follow them will go infest another game and leave the rest of us the hell alone.
All posters which want a penalety for leaving are just aiming on easy kills.
As a support specced DC I heavily rely on the support of my group. I get killed repeatedly because my team mates running around drooling for kill instead of protecting me, I leave.
Look, I haven't played in a premade in NW; I don't have the best gear/enchants and when levelling in pvp I never even bother getting more than the green gear you can buy from a vender at level 20/30/40 etc and any blue drops I might get from pvping.
My posts supporting some kind of leavers penalty come purely from a desire to better the game. I have no ulterior motives for my views, I just like playing NW pvp and would like to have more games with full teams without people leaving willy-nilly at the drop of a hat.

The problem I see is that there is just no good way to communicate with teammembers. Going to chat takes you out of battle, it takes longer if the channel isn't set right, and one wrong move of the mouse and you can do it all over again.
Yes it's very annoying that I have to set it to Party every time I start a match. No idea why it keeps getting set to Say. And if I forget then yeah I have to stop and click it to set to party and usually get ganked in the meantime. I created a custom tab so you should have the ability to set a default there but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Type "/p <message>" and it will automatically change to party chat.
You can also use the same concept...
"/s <message>" to change to Say
"/z <message>" to change to Zone
"/g <message>" to change to Guild
"/w <charactername@handle> <message>" to PM/Whisper
"/r <message>" to respond to the last Whisper
There have been several threads up about this matter and still nothing has been done about it. The same goes for other matters such as spawn camping in Gaunt, the CD of enchants not working as intended, etc. Therefore, I am going to take a long break from this game. Whether I will come back at all or not will be the question because this game doesn't have much to offer at all once you hit level 60 (as it stands atm, doubt module 1 will add much longevity to it). If abovementioned issues would atleast get fixed in a timely fashion then this wouldn't bother me as much, but yup yup...
'Tis a shame.

I left my first match the other day. After getting stuck with a bot the previous match, which our team lost, I requeued for another match and got grouped with the bot again and as soon as I saw that I immediately left the group and queued up again and actually ended up in a decent group.
I really hope they don't implement a "leaving penalty" without addressing the reasons why people are leaving in the first place. If so I'll probably be done with PvP altogether.

This is EXACTLY why Cryptic must implement leavers penalty. I'd even suggest turn it into achievement - after you left 100 matches you're unlocking a new title, "The Deserter", which disallows you to participate in PvP, and your char is stuck with it until you do a special tedious PvE quest chain which requires you to grind half of the epic dungeons for a special BoP components which bosses or a certain mobs in the mid-dungeon may (or may not) drop, and after that special cleric NPC will "clear" your "sin". The same thing must be required for those who tend to AFK during an active match.
You see, this is how PvP works, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But trying to "fix" it by leaving is only makes it worse for those who stay, which is extremely selfish behavior. I've never left an active match, even when losing, even with bots. Because it takes about TEN MINUTES and nobody promised me that I will win with a PUG.

Voice chat is just bugged like all hells, people sound like being exorcised at times.
If it were better, I'd be a lot more willing to try and coordinate. Pre-mades do this very well, most likely because they are using a 3rd party comm.app.
normal chat mode upon entering is an absolute pain to switch over to party/zone mode, it takes awhile to do and if you try to do it after a match starts you are often attacked while attempting it
without the ability to leave at will without penalty I'd likely stop playing domination PvP as I wouldn't be able to find and play many balanced matches (I leave at the start when the balance is off unless I think I scored high and am on the winning side to which I'll be bored but think that perhaps a blue item and decent but low glory points would be nice things to have)

Well bully for you. Luckily you don't dictate my decisions. For one thing the match wasn't yet "active". The timer hadn't even started it was still "waiting for players" so it's not like I was one of those people that leave when their team doesn't take mid first. For another.. I don't care if you think it's selfish or not. I'm not going to waste my time by staying on a team that I KNOW for a fact has bots. If you want to waste your time on a more than likely hopeless cause be my guest.
And as stated I left my "first match". After doing them daily on 3-4 characters pretty much since the game has began. I'm just getting tired of the bots and that's what they must fix before even thinking about a penalty for leaving.
If I randomly queue and get stuck with bots that's one thing but I'll be damned if I'm going to stay if I get grouped with the very same bots the very next match. No need to penalize me I'll just stop playing PvP and I'm sure I wont be the only one. Which will mean longer queues and even more bots on peoples teams. Yeah that sounds like an AWESOME solution. Have at it.
I totally agreee, there should be a punsihing system for leaving matches, but first they need to adress why people actually leaving.
- no gearscore matchmaking
- people explioting bugged enchants
- classes not being spread out for ques making it totally random if you get a good or bad team setup
- class ballance
- no crowd controll recovery time
If you want to waste your time on a more than likely hopeless cause be my guest.
You meant: challenge? Just one bot won't harm the game for the team this tremendously, while bot+deserter sounds like a "hey, team 2, here's your easy win".
Which will mean longer queues and even more bots on peoples teams. Yeah that sounds like an AWESOME solution. Have at it.
At least bots don't quit and they tend to try to capture mid point XD But seriously, YES. People with such a mindset are not a healthy addition to PvP in any game, they just leave/AFK for a variety of reasons and screw their teammates (e.g. Aion's PvP). And it will be nice of you if you'd consider not leaving your group in the future - bots or no bots. Stay and make a difference!

Actually those things usually come after the basic rules have been established, if they ever come at all.

You make a great point here. I will still do domination its just I will still leave and then just be farming a lot more. Lets talk about the real issue which is.......
Penalty for staying.
Till there isn't a heavy penalty for staying there should be no penalty for leaving.

Read a book afk at the campfire. No leaving penalty + tangible reward for staying. BAM.....
Use the <removed exploit lead-in> to interact with the auction vendor.
I think we should be free to leave a PvP instance and join a new one. In the last few days, for example, the games have been really unbalanced. One side or the other is walloping the other side. If I don't need the glory for anything, and there is absolutely no way to pull out teamwork and a good fighting game, I often leave. Of course, usually that happens because others have left. But often the winning side is ruthless is smashing and dominating the losing team without mercy. I got better things to do.
In a way I am happy with the fact that PvP has no consequence besides the actual competition you are in. After you have your gear, you are doing it just for the fun, at that's it.
I will say, when it so happens that the two teams are closely matched, it is **** fun!! I see less and less of that these days, but at least 3-4 times a day it does happen, so I continue to PvP hoping for that.
