One of the things I like about Champions Online was how solo friendly it was; I never felt like I needed to be part of a guild/supergroup there, the majority of the content could be completed solo, and the times that I did need a group there was either a fast n handy queue system to take care of that, or the group was easy to assemble via zone chat since we didn't have to spam "LF1M NEED HEALER" for three hours.
How is it in NWO?
1. How much of the content can I complete solo?
2. Is there a good queue system for instances?
3. Do parties need to be balanced ala the tank/healer/dps trinity?
4. Is there large raid content where you need to spend time assembling 10, 20, however many people before you can start?
5. Are there a lot of "unspoken rules" when pugging, like "We skip 90% of the mobs in the instance" and "We kick anyone who doesn't have a conservative playstyle"?
6. Is there an endgame gear treadmill?
Champions Online: Be the hero you wish you could be in a better game.
Sadly (for me) you can quest quest quest all alone just fine. So far as I can tell the quests were done very well, are entertaining, have the best voice acting I've heard in any game ever pay or free. You should enjoy this game a lot if you are solo minded.
1. All of it except the endgame content Gauntlgrym. You need to be a member of a faction-aligned guild to play it but there are guilds out there for everybody. It's not hard to join one that won't affect your solo play at all.
2. Good? Debatable. There is a queue system but my experience has been long (45+ min. waits) to join dungeons and such, not so bad for PvP, which solo players aren't always interested in. There is also question about its intelligence and some players say there are serious problems with it. I wouldn't know as I don't run dungeons or queue for PvP very often.
3. Not necessarily; it depends on the scenario. Probably subjective.
4. No. The largest PvP content is handled at the endgame and can be queued for as well, and it is only at specific times of day. Some players complain about this as well.
5. I would suggest only among those players who are actively trying to put together parties. Don't worry, you'll see this in Zone chat.
6. Sort of, although many players claim that you have to buy T1 gear to get through T1 dungeons, rather than earning it by completing T1 dungeons etc. There are only two tiers of gear though."
P.S. Prepare to see the spam in Zone chat. It is ridiculous.
Leveling up to 60 you can solo the whole thing with the exception of skirmishes and endzone dungeons that are designed for 5 players. Endgame? Not so much. You need to queue for all Epic Dungeons. I don't think any of that content is soloable, unless you are insanely geared.
Soloed all the content, except skirmishes and final dungeons, playing as a GF. Can't comment on other classes, but I see people are gathering groups for some quests from time to time.

You can happily solo the content right up until you hit level 60. There is a five-man instance that caps most if not each of the quest zones. You don't have to do them if you don't want to.
Once you reach sixty, you basically are going to want to make an alt and do it all again, or join a guild. The game can be pretty miserable otherwise. There is really no more solo content beyond 60, unless you consider pugging group content soloing. Maybe one day... Champions spoiled you. (And me.)

I think your questions have been pretty well answered, but also consider that you can with help (requires 5 players to start a guild) make your own guild for convenience purposes. This is basically what I have done. I have a guild that was started with RL friends and we pretty much do whatever whenever. PUGs here are the same as anywhere...sometimes you get crappy groups, sometimes you get good players.
Foundry - Fight Club? (nw-dluqbofu7)
- JailBreak (in development)
Its not all that different from CO. In the sense that as long as you follow the main quest chain you really wont be put into an winable situation. The main quest line was meant to be soloed with an npc companion. That said there are a few differences.
Every quest hub is broken into three parts. The quest line, a skirmish, and an end dungeon. The quest line will have you doing open world type missions with three personal instanced dungeons.
Skirmishes are basically alerts. Minus the level scaling. You can only enter them if you fit into the level range. If you miss it, you miss it for good.
The end dungeons are fairly similar to lairs. They are scaled for a team of 5. And unlike CO. There is really no soloing these. Unless you out level it greatly. The health and damage on the mobs scales up pretty intensely.
However, unlike skirmishes dungeons have a fixed entrance. So you can bypass the queue system and enter manually if you like.
In addition each dungeon has a level 60 epic version. Its the same dungeon, same mobs, just scaled up much more. Unlike CO, expect a bit of snobbery here. You will be judged by gear score. You will be passed over if you arnt a trinity player. Some unpopular classes have been known to be passed over. Just ask a GWF about that
Soloers will not enjoy epic dungeons. But with a good guild or friends they can be fun

Solo all the content except for the skirmishes and the end of zone dungeons,
until level 60 at which point there is, currently, no solo content outside the foundry.
On the plus side, the upcoming Module 1 / "campaign system" update (date: tba), looks like it'll add a good bit to do at level cap for people who aren't interested in grouping all the time.
(As mentioned, you can solo the quest zones to the cap. That said, the last zone & a half can get pretty hairy - especially the mindflayer areas.)

The game is extremely solo friendly until level 60 at which point the game becomes very dependent on Dungeon Delves...which are fun if you give them a shot.
*Note as per the new Preview Patch Notes Level 50-59 content will become even more solo friendly.

. . . . . Indeed, due to my sporadic and downright bizarre play times, I play mostly solo and have a blast! Then, when I am able to get in a group, it makes it even better!
its awesome to level to 60 - give it a shot - played to 60 with 3 toons and i loved it.. after that: not so solo friendly anymore, as its about dungeons and what not
1. All of it, or very close to all of it.
2. Yes
3. Yes (Tank isn't completely necessary)
4. No raids at all. What's an mmo without a end game raid?? What were they thinking... (20v20 pvp doesn't count)
5. I'm sure there is. Queue system wait time is horrible if you're a dps. Never really enjoyed pugs myself.
6. Yes but it's not very hard to get gear and once you have it there is little to experience other than the imbalanced pvp circle jerk.

Shouldn't you be encouraging more (Group Play) for an MMO as apposed to playing an MMO like a single player console game? Get in there and promote Ambi, promote this to the developers. Let them know we have plenty of solo content, they could even adjust the difficulty of the solo content to be a little harder, and throw together a few more group activities why they are at it.
Thanks,

While most of the replies to the OP are quite good, this is definitely one I don't agere with. Some of the voice acting is the worst I have come across since undergraduate amateur dramatics.

I almost exclusively solo. I don't like PvP and I generally don't like groups. For me, it's because I don't have a lot of time in contiguous blocks. I frequently get interrupted and need to go AFK for 15-20s, so grouping can be frustrating for myself and others.
Thus, I do a lot of solo. I've soloed all the content (up to and through the last dungeon with the mindflayer priest guy) with a TR, a CW, and a GWF.
The TR was the easiest (could perma-stealth most enemies). The CW was pretty easy (could perma-control most enemies), the GWF was a pain in the butt (but it was also pre-patch where they lowered all the cooldowns). All were doable though, I never needed another player to finish any of the quests.
Since capping I bought a bunch of epics off the AH, which is super easy to do due to the low prices, and then went back and did all the non-epic dungeons solo.
Soloing the non-epic versions of the dungeons is a lot of fun, although some are a bit frustrating due to insane amounts of adds (temple of Idris took forever due to infinite adds, plus adds that summon adds. Whee!). The first few are super-easy, but the level 40 ones get fairly challenging.
I've run some of the epic dungeons as a solo queue, but generally find them not all that fun. A lot of it was pushing mobs off cliffs followed by bosses with enormous hitpoints and crazy amounts of adds. I got some good gear by running them during delves, but there wasn't a lot of challenge or fun. It was more of a grind than anything else.

I have no idea what your basis of comparison is. The VA on the Lich's Lament quest is fantastic, for example, and I do rather like Knox and Linkletter, but many quest NPCs sound pretty stilted, like they're reading from a script and haven't given much thought to where it would be natural to pause if they were actually saying their lines to someone for real.

No, I don't think I will. You clearly love the voice acting in this game. I do not. I am not going to start a full argument/debate here because of a secondary comment that I now regret making. If your original comment was only about F2P games, then I am sure I would have said nothing. But to make the claim against all games of all types, is way way over the top as far as I'm concerned.
To conclude though: I'm happy for you that you like it, and if the majority of my fellow gamers agree with you then there is no case to answer anyway!

Thanks,
I don't try to dictate any player to do something they don't enjoy.
In fact I despise that some people have taken the original concept of MMO's and twisted it into "you must do things with other people." Originally the idea was to throw a bunch of people together simply so that you could find like-minded people. Those players could be the ones who love 40 man raids or people who enjoy solo/duoing content and players would happily enjoy the game the way they want to.
Bottom line is there is no reason to force group play on a player side except to dictate your playstyle on other people. Here's a secret, the only reason group mechanics became encouraged half as much as they are in MMO's is because, factually speaking, players with friends/guilds in the game are more vested in the game than solo players and are less likely to leave/quit. Certainly some players like large groups but that is not the reason why it is encouraged so much by MMO Content.
Sure people should try group content...I enjoy having at least one person with me much more than soloing...
But dictating group play (especially 5+ players) isn't something I'll ever tell Cryptic to do. You can. I won't.
And in the end Cryptic will decide.
This is a good list of better VA, though you have to admit that some of the D3 acting was pretty bad (really, Diablo? do I need to hear about my 'tear-orr' anymore?). Half the fun in killing the Primes in D3 was getting them to finally shut their yap.
For NW, my favorite is the 'ditzy blonde' in the sky pirates zone. "Boy, the swamp sure ate those buildings!" and "Shaban's been gone for a long time; he must have found something interesting!"
At Level 60, you can solo standard 5-man dungeons.
And, while you have to be a member of a guild to enter the Gauntlgrym raid, you can effectively solo Phase 1 and Phase 2 of that content.
GG is raid content for max level characters.
The upcoming module, Fury of the Feywild, will also be soloable.
Dragon Age 1 and 2
Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3
KotOR 1 and 2
I could keep going. Most of the voice acting in Neverwinter is average and accents are thrown in for the sake of having a funny accent instead of structure of language, race, and culture.

(I actually haven't played D3, about which I am alternately pleased and embarrassed.)
Just to get back on topic, the majority of my time spent questing in Neverwinter has been solo and I've been pleased with how well it plays so far. I've tried TR, GWF, and DC.
Oh really? Give me a list of games with better voice acting.
Seriously? Dozens, possibly hundreds of games. I hate the voice acting in Neverwinter. Mass Effect series, Diablo series, or just about anything is leagues better. Even SWTOR and GW2 have better voice acting.
Don't get me wrong though, I am enjoying Neverwinter very much, but NOT for its voice acting. As from the other forum posts in reply to your statement you'd be in the minority on that opinion.
