Hey dezstravus.
Another Critical problem that needs to be handled asap is people abusing the report spam thing. Apparently it only takes 20 people to report spam falsely and that mutes people for 24 hours. This feature is completely and utterly obsurd to trust in the hands of gamers. If you don't understand what the problem is go play league of legends for a couple games and listen to the hostile immature chatter that never ends. On top of that a mere 20 is just a ridiculously low number. Handle your problem with real active gms or your just creating a bigger problem. A functioning company learns quick that it doesn't have the time to baby sit its community.
The obvious first step fix is putting a 1 or 2 minute cooldown to zone chat. I've never seen any mmo that doesn't have this basic function.

Will this maintenance also address the issue of being unable to mail items at the mail courier? Are these issues related, or are they separate? I can see how a database issue might affect both the auction house, and the ability to send items through the mail.
Wait, was there actually an issue? I was having difficulty earlier, and then realized I was just trying to mail something that was bound!
Just make sure that you make your minimum bid = BO for small auctions or 0 for large ones that way there is no bidding just buy outs and your more likely to just get items returned. though it would be nice if fees could be waved during downtimes.

Excuse my ignorance, but I never new the AH was ONline after the mighty exploit a week ago. Not that I was getting any interesting loot anyway. A couple of level 35 blue items I promptly donated to the guild bank and that was all of it.

Very sorry to hear about this circumstance. I wish that we were able to change this behavior, but unfortunately it is how the system works at this particular time. We will do our best to minimize occurrences of this in the future. Thanks for your patience and support while we work out the issues that were escalated today.
I would suggest keeping it down then, until such a time that you can code in a way to take a "snapshot" of the AH and restore it when you bring it back up (obviously it's too late for this one). Assuming stuff happens (and it always does) would make for a handy fix to literally everyone's ills.
Why is it any of your concern what someone wants to spend THEIR "AD" on? I for one like to grind easily, so to do that you need the proper stats... the gear that drops is not always the right stats... so I fill in with AH gear.... is that bad?

While I think that the person above you who posted their issue is stupid for doing business the way they want to do it, and then an issue arises and blame it on Cryptic... I think your post is just as stupid and displays your lack of knowledge.
"This is how the system works"... really? Did you read his issue?

Thanks for voicing your concerns! This is valid feedback and we are aware of it. Very sorry to hear if you were muted unfairly. Our current response in regards to the automated chat mute system is here in our extended FAQ.

...and apparently is being misused by others to "silence" their competitors that are selling items via zone chat. To clarify, this wasn't spam, but from what a couple guildies said, the report feature was being abused.

It's too bad, this game plays really well... but management of the game is complete HAMSTER and is driving away the customers... My entire guild is getting to the point where it's not worth it to log in. Hide behind the beta flag all you want. The fact is you opened your doors to the public...... I'm tired of the apologists screaming that it is still a beta so they don't have to make it work, but they sure don't mind taking money like it was a free game. And the apology box of dung that I will never wear... that just makes me madder... You devalue the currency that comes with the founder sets, and then wonder why no one wants to spend any more money on the game. Then you give me the same I'm sorry note that you gave to the guy who hasn't spent a dime on the game, just for having a toon created.
At this point, the only way to make the cheaters suffer is by wiping the game in full and refunding AD/zen... at least you will have some credibility for trying to take care of the people who are actually spending money on the game. And all the bogus AD will be out of circulation.

I wonder what Wizards of the Coasts think about your so-called "Successful Launch."
If I were PWE I would actually be concerned and hope they don't yank the D&D Neverwinter name from them.

History is repeating itself.Yeah it will be fast maintenance.
2 more hours 2 more hours 2 more hours.
No rollback guys don't worry.
We are almost done!4 more hours.
Finally give up and go to bed
Wake up find that you are 9 levels rollbacked.
And AH will be out for a week again.
HAMSTER
Pretty sure they never said there would be no rollback. They said no wipe (as in back to square one).

Two large exploits in a little over a week... that's totally acceptable for a game in open beta. Betas are about finding the bugs and fixing them. I think it was a great idea to let people know you didn't plan to wipe the servers after the open beta; but in light of the economies on these servers.. is it really such a bad idea to do a wipe?
You don't lose any revenue, people are buying strictly digital goods. Replace the Zen with what people transferred, hell you could even take the game down an extra five days before real release and let your 'Heroes of the North' have their head-start.
Like most people on these forums, this MMO isn't my first rodeo. If you care anything about the longevity of this game, or even just the longevity of people tossing coins into your coffers, you'll consider a wipe.
I'm not raging, I'll keep playing this game whether or not you wipe the servers. You know its a niche game, worry about keeping them rather than the Zen selling hit you'll take for a few weeks.
Alternately, merging these three poisoned servers and opening a new one would be pretty well received by most, even some of us who have thrown copious amounts of money at your Zen Store (Wouldn't require Zen refunds in this scenario, unless you guys are feeling really charitable).
Thanks for reading Cryptic.

Wipe would be the smartest thing they can do. As it stands, tons of currency has been generated via hacks, bugs and cheats. It essentially devalues all the people who actually gave them money in the first place, because the market is flooded with counterfit AD...

Totally agree... but you said with much less rage than I.
Wiping everything would drive a lot of people away. The last thing I want to do is level both my toons up again. It's not like the questing was fun or anything.. I'd count my loses from Zen purchases and chalk it up as a lesson learned. I would stop playing this game which in turn means they'll stop receiving money from me.

Someguy313, I agree that wiping would turn away a lot of current players. Look at it from the other side though, how many new players are going to want to start playing a game in this kind of state?
A merge and a new server would probably be their best bet from a marketing standpoint. You keep your current characters and they sell more character slots on for the new servers for all the people who would rather play with a level playing field. I for one, know that I wouldn't be deleting all the toons I have now.
Since you didn't inform if there will be rollback or not, just misleading "no plans on...", I've made screenshots of gear I found in dungeons and so as an evidence I really, legitimately got them.
The questions is: am I naive to think I'll get these items back after possible rollback?
I think I know the answer.
_
Yeah, I finally found item _for me_ after doing ~10 dungeon runs. (Convert it to spent time, please?)
They've already said over and over that they won't wipe the servers. Now if they decide to wipe them, the outrage will be extreme. Look how upset people are over the rollback last week and the potential that it's about to happen again. They need to fix the problems as they arise and not let them linger. Word is they were told of the first issue 10 days before they decided to take action. The ball is in their court to make this game something that people will want to come play.

Before you re-enable the AH you could simply update the end-time of all the current auctions by the length of the downtime. One simple database statement should do it... that is unless the code which closes auctions continues to run even when the AH is disabled.

Really? If they told you, hey, we gave you all your zen back... so you have an account sitting with all that currency, you would just let it sit?
And it takes about 2 to 3 weeks, taking your time, to level to 60... Let's not act like it is EQ1 and they are rolling back 2 years of work.
Wotc runs the biggest and most successful money sink online game (almost at the level of poker/casino sites) on magic online... i doubt theyre concerned of this release as long as they get their moneys...

I like how they say as soon as possible. While in every sane persons language that means around 1-3 hours, in PW's language it means like 15-20 hours + a rollback.
Oh and pls spare me your comments on there will be no rollback cuz that's the exact same shieet they said last time and after 15 hours of server down ... BOOOOM, HEADSHOOOOT!

Exactly, this is nothing like EQ. That game was actually a challenge and fun to level up toons. The only reason I play this game is to PVP. So for me I'd rather not level my toons back up again. So yeah I'd walk away with all my Zen sitting there. Just like I walked away from my EQ, WoW, Aion, and Rift accounts.
