Solo dungeon queue dynamics

redrockls3redrockls3 Member Posts: 36 Arc User
I am very much enjoying the return of solo dungeon/skirmish queues. However, there are some dynamics in place that can make certain dungeons near impossible to complete regardless of skill/gear. I quite enjoy soloing Malabogs Castle or Valindra's Castle. However, in both instances, Valindra has the capability of locking you until you die--unless you are broken free by a team mate. In solo queues, it can render the dungeon near impossible to complete unless you get lucky and she doesn't use that ability, uses it on your companion instead of you, or if you're severely over geared for the content and just about delete the final boss.

Has anyone else encountered dynamics such as this that I may have overlooked and could perhaps be addressed by the devs in a future update? I understand that this is an MMO but, it is nice to develop strategies where you could best content on your own or to measure your progress. Situations like this make that difficult.

Yes, you can queue now with any number of people (even alone) for any dungeon as long as you go private (and have the right IL). In my guild for example we are doing 10 man tiamat runs to help the people finish the campaign and not have lag issues or wait to find 15 more. Even the 10 man dungeons like edemo.

You say any number but I suspect you mean any number equal to or less than originally intended for that content. I.e. It won't let you run malabog's castle with 10 people.

I really, REALLY hope this is as intended, it's fun to solo dungeons, but kinda annoying getting people to queue and leave...

So, this being a thing would be AWESOME!!!

Of course you can't exceed the No of players a dungeon is designed for, but you can queue with less.

Demogorgon still wants 10 bodies on the circle to start.

Ok... first off, I suspect they didn't mean for PVE queues to be entered solo, as this change was previewed entirely in context of PvP match-ups. (If rewards are disabled, maybe it's intentional. If not... well, they're not going to let that lie.)

Second, the challenge of soloing the dungeon includes figuring out a way to deal with those mechanics by yourself. Some classes have a CC break power. Some people kill them with reflect damage. Some just hope their pet can kill the hand in time. But if soloing the dungeon means anything, that includes coping with all the challenges it offers.

It is mostly just Valindra. I've managed to solo Kessels, ELoL, EToS, etc., just fine but, I cannot seem to avoid her grasp (plenty of pun intended). Especially as a TR, my defense/hit points are limited and even while using Impossible To Catch, I still cannot prevent her from grabbing me. My solution to this is to simply not run this content and continue to clear other dungeons/skirmishes on my own.

Hopefully this was an intentional addition, it was on the preview server before it went live. I have found this to be quite the enjoyable addition, especially because I can jump in and get some skirmishes and dungeons knocked out for AD on several toons without having to wait for a queue, someone lagging behind or just simply AFK.

You can wait for 4min 30 sec and you can enter without 10

Try this, you will notice that the grasp happens at a certain point (or points) during the fight. Cast a smoke bomb and stay in it, the ticks will kill the hand and you are good to go.

Thats what I did with my templock using Pillar and it worked fine.

You can solo Valindra easily with a Stormwarden HR. Just stay under your Split the Sky clouds and lightings will kill the hand for you.
    Le-Shan: HR level 80 (main)
Born of Black Wind: SW Level 80

I leveled an OP recently and managed to get a few of the skirmishes done only by using the private queue and soloing. I also did normal Spellplague, ToS and Karru which was nice not having to deal with the typical issues of running heroics.

I hope this is a permanent addition to the game. While soloing epics isn't my thing, a number of my friends and guildies are enjoying it.

I, too, love the opportunity to solo queue and hope it stays.

The pick-up-group queue for dps classes can be really long sometimes. When I only have 20 minutes to go and want to play something else than support, it is faster and more fun to solo a T1. It also gives me an opportunity to fall in love with my lesser played classes all over again, now that the playing experience with them isn't just dailies and more dailies while the queue look for a group 20-30 minutes and eventually coughs up a Kessell's Retreat.

It seems as if there have been a number of undocumented changes recently. The Invite to Queue menu option was fixed some time ago without notice. The Mod 12 launch brought with the Linu and Bryn Shander rep changes, both well liked QoL improvements and both AFAIK undocumented? I don't know that undocumented changes are a good thing but these have been good ones at least.

She (Valindra) yells "You are going nowhere" before using the grabbing hand attack B)

By the way @nitocris83 @mimicking#6533 and all the troop, I love you a lot for this change

Yes you can, did all T1 and T2s and CN so far solo and you get full rewards but it takes time, always better and more fun to do them in teams. Solo is for challenging yourself only. (specially on a healing templock :P)

The Linu change I spotted and have taken advantage off to enable the last of my characters to pick up the final Boon in the Tyranny of Dragons campaign. However, I haven't heard anything about any Reputation changes in Bryn Shander. Have they been reduced as well ?

Each quest awards double reputation, as far as I've checked. The original amount, and then the same amount as a bonus.

That will certainly help, though getting the boons will still take forever if they have done nothing to Secrets of Ostoria. Getting the Secrets was the bottleneck for me. As it happens, I got the final SKT boon on my final character....the day before Mod 12 dropped :)

I agree on the Secrets. I'm working the last 2 boons on my 3rd character through and have started the 4th.

There is one little thing that should be fixed:

In Demogorgon, instead of needing 10 people on the platform to start, make it so that you need everyone present there. So, if you queue up with 9 people, you don't have to wait and wait....
    Hoping for improvements...
