WoW is down to 5.6 million subscribers, down from 7.1 million in the first quarter. Looks like Activision/Blizzard is having a hard time maintaining exisiting players much less getting more players. I played WoW back in '04 when it first came out but haven't been back since (too many kids learning how to type the F word in chat). For those that play or did play, what do you think is the reason for this plummet?
the big problem with this game is it has been going down hill sense mod 4 came out it was a rehash of old content only good thing was shores and lair of loud mouth oh and boons but content mah ,mod 5 was ok at best only good thing was tia oh and added 2 boons that take for ever to get and really dont do much for the amount of time it takes to get them and then we have mod 6 well ok its cool to make things harder but lvl 60 people can not do shar, dread ,wells and god forbid iwd! but were is any new content oh and the new gear we can use now ya its cr@p oh ya they took away how many dungons and the reg sot skirm if they need money ! dont take away content and make stuff so hard that only good groups can do and im not saying this as a newb ive played sense mod 2 and have well over 3k item lvl but new people that join my guild normaly dont last long after they reach lvl 70 theres nothing to do but one dungon and cr@p old skirms for them
Well these big corporations went from selling the full game or at least taking donations to now forcing a pay to win cash shop, or forcing a subscription. Why pay monthly for something that will never ever truly be yours?
I think if these game developers of today don't wake up soon they'll more than likely lose loads of money. I'm sure you can't run on just donations, but what's so wrong with selling the game at full price and be done? Or perhaps having a cash shop but not making it a pay to win sort of thing then again I'm not too fond of cash shops. There are options for them, a fine balance of sorts without milking the players dry.
People looking for something different, a new experience but almost every MMORPG is the same.
For example the combat system. As WoW showed up almost every following MMORPG had the same combat system. Followed by a lot of similarities.
But there are so much possibilities to create a difference experience and in my opinion people looking in something different, maybe more Sandbox like.
I just love when players think that WoW is like the first mmorpg and other ones just coppy all stuffs from it.. Well actually WOW coppy a lot of older games so please stop making nonsense like all games are wow rip or something...
On topic, players indeed looking for more active gameplay. Old classic style as Runes of magic, lineage 2, cabal online, even wow or perfect world or any other ones simply boring. You mark target and click skill button and thats it.. Kinda boring when u taste action based mmorpg. Even neverwinter is not pure action based, neither tera online.
After I try Vindictus I so what real action mmorpg look like and it where like .i.(-_-) yeah finaly game where I can do something. But still it where limited because it where dungeon based same as C9. Now new games are more like assasin creed. U are free to do anything. Black Desert online offer parkour feature, u climb walls and run of buildings, u have active dodge/attack mechanics and u don't have to mark any target.
Also players spliting between games thats why population in NW or any other mmo decreasing.. Have u all though how many games where like 6 years ago. And how many of them where F2P. Game world spinning faster and faster. New games appear faster and faster.. New hardware capabilities unlock new posibilities. DirectX 12/Vulcan api and Virtual reality apearing so either game adapt to new stuffs or will die.
