For everybody saying they want it to stay hard or be harder, I'd appreciate knowing how far in boon progression you are, and what your gearscore is. If you're saying it's fine as it is and have 21k gearscore and all the boons, well, duh. You don't need to do it daily anymore and you've passed it as relevant daily content. If you have only obtained one or two boons and still think it's appropriately tuned, then the feedback is more relevant.

you cant go icewind if you dont have 3 boon from dread ring or sharandar,if you do both after you hit 70 you will have 5 boons 3 from dread ring 2 from sharandar.also you get boons from tod campaign while you leveling.(maybe also elemental evil campaign to get boons from low level).maybe you will have already 5-6 boons before you enter icewind?
The important thing is not to panic. This is preview. Maybe the difficulty will be tweaked before it goes live. Maybe we'll settle in to it and it won't be so bad. Or maybe it will get tweaked after a few weeks. This is such a major addition to the game that there are bound to be bugs and imbalances at first. I am a bit worried about the difficulty level but some of the other changes have me excited. So stick with it in the short-term and see how it goes.

I mean, when people give feedback, it would help to know how many of the icewind dale boons they have. If they've already finished the boon progression, then claiming the difficulty raise is fine is either irrelevant or actively harmful, since they no longer need to do the boons. What does it matter to them if new players have to group up to complete the content, since they're finished with it? I may be mistaken, but I think a lot of the people who are saying 'harder is better, grouping for dailies is fine' just don't need them anymore.
Some points I'll attempt to clear up but obviously you have people that agree and then you have a bunch of unproductive people saying Learn2Play.
First off i've been playing since December 2012, I KNOW HOW TO FREAKING PLAY!
Second, I've been on and off the preview server near 2 hours a day since its been brought up, I might not have tested everything but i've been testing how "I" play and even tested an alternative to how I play now.
Third, My character is level 70, two pieces of Elemental PVP gear and 2 pieces of Eternal gear, that means I have 70k+ HP and still can get steam rolled by dwarves once my dodges run out.
Fourth, I have all legendary (will probably NEVER get any of this on LIVE but was able to copy enough to get this power level) newest MH at orange, newest OH is near orange, 4 active artifacts are at orange and higher, 1 is pushing mythic at 130. I have R9 - 11 enchantments. The whole point of being at this level is to have an "easier time" running through content. MY item level on my toon is 3100 which is over 1000 points higher than the current epic level dungeons and i'm just trying to do dailies.
Fifth, I am NOT saying heroics should be soloable ... i'm pretty sure I stated the opposite ... if you want to go around saying learn to play then I suggest you learn 2 play quoters "learn to read". I agree that 3 - 5 or 5 - 10 man encounters should NOT be soloable. However you need to be able to start some of these otherwise the vast majority of people just wonder by and so far my CW is the only toon I have that can start some of these and its not long before he is just beat down and defeated. Also the point that a "DAILY" quest relies on doing an heroic encounter, there are some my CW can still do, a bit tougher than in live but doable however my point was OTHER classes are not going to fair as well and personally my character I think should still be OVERGEARED and its tough on him. When was the last time you were in Caer-Konig and IMMEDIATELY got a group to do an minor heroic for a daily or even to do BT? I have spent all day and NO takers so my problem is with lack of players being cooperated and obviously forcing change on them won't work it will probably make them leave I don't see this getting much better. For some reason to this day you can run around Dread Ring and pretty much get a group to do a lair within 2 minutes of zoning in. IWD good luck in getting even a single person to say "yeah man lets party up and do dailies or heroics".
So if you have actually played on preview and have a character that can run through "dailies" in a reasonable amount of time and NOT die and re spawn every or every other encounter then by all means tell us what you have and what you do and what class, telling us "learn to play" isn't helpful nor constructive.
My opinion is that the open areas or at least "daily quest" areas need to be capped at level 72 so the base game players (you know the new people that are going to keep this game running not the people who have R10's now playing for over a year and on burn out mode) can actually get something done without having to call for help. Put the HEROICS and the LAIRS on level 73 mode, that is designated "group" content and if some of you "I want a challenge and be on the verge of death just to do a daily" types need something harder then run these level 73 group content areas (heroics and lairs) solo and just have a fun.
My chief concern is that average or expected average gear people aren't going to find these new areas appealing or very fun they will find them frustrating and NOT do them.
The game devs themselves said that 2 levels higher was to be challenging ... now they are upping it to 3 which for MANY classes is IMPOSSIBLE to do.
If you are a GF, if you are a Paladin, if you are some other class that isn't in R12 and running around in full elemental gear and mythic quality artifacts and legendary MH/OH then by all means give us an opinion or some insight ...
My point is you don't turn into questing zones into areas that cater the overpowered crowd just to give "them" a challenge ... you should be doing that on a totally NEW area a totally NEW zone that is enter at your own risk ... not turn existing content we have been running through and suddenly turn into "group required to adventure here".
As others have pointed out if you hit these areas at 60 - 65 you can pretty much do these with ease as the level adjustment does make you OP ... but once you turn 70 it seems your choices are to just hang round the drowned shores, firey pit, reclamation rock and spineward rise areas until you get uber gear and uber enchants to run dread ring or IWD again.
Also those dwarves in IWD and pretty much all mobs in IWD in general don't CC for HAMSTER. I've frozen, choked, stunned, mobs using cantankerous mage, orb of imposition and they break CC almost as soon as you apply it ... how is that helpful? They have always been breaking them faster than mobs in other areas but now they are nearly CC immune.
So to repeat myself ... YES heroics should be harder, sure content should be a bit challenging but once you reach a certain gear level it should also get easier and so far that doesn't seem to be happening.
IF anyone's argument is they want MORE challenge ... then strip off your enchants put on your green gear and go get some challenge. Challenge in this game is as simple as that. Those of us that spend time, time, AD and MORE TIME to upgrade our enchants to make life easier to do dailies and farming runs should have our easy time. Is that NOT the point of having HIGH ranking enchants?
Personally I think enchantments are wrecking this game, this game has a profit mechanic in it that is deeply impeeding its gameplay mechanics ... its trying to balance pvp in a NON pvp game, its trying to balance content for people that have in whatever manner gotten R10 and higher enchants and best gear, there is a HUGE gap in people in BiS gear and people in BiS gear with BiS enchantments, when i say huge I mean HUUUUGE. Balancing content for your gear and then the ever increasing madness of enchantment power is near futile. Its like everyone has been saying in PVP let us "normal" geared people fight PVP against each other and those R9 - 12 people queue separately ... you almost need to develop this game for normal geared players who might have at best R7 and then have the game set up for those in R9-12. Maybe a separate server should be made ... one for getting purple gear and then one dedicated to legendary gear and R 9+ enchanted people where everything in the world is scaled up so that all the people in purple/legendary gear with R9+ enchantmetns can have a challenge and spend 20 min to 1 hour a day just trying to manage one areas dailys cause its so hardcore.
well put. thanks for empathizing with us newbie, lvl7 enchant players..
It's more fun in the Philippines >:)

I think something needs to be cleared up. Are there new things to do in iwd for maxed out lvl 60 toons to get to 70? Like are there new lvl 70 quests?
or, did they just completely change all of iwd to BE level 70?
To me, they should have put out a NEW high level area to level up. A NEW campaign. Everything else should have been kept the same. That way, you still need to go through current campaigns to get to a place where you can do the new stuff. Seems to me they're giving it the tiamat treatment, putting all high level players with newer players in content that SHOULD be for high level players. But worse, since it seems they're telling people to go back to areas they previously completed in order to progress to the new stuff. That sounds super boring. Why would I want to go back to iwd, when I already finished everything I wanted from there? And why in the world would I want it to be more difficult when I did go back? If anything I'd want to go back to help people who were new.
and sure, they could have put out a cash item so that people could skip the lower areas if they wanted and be ready to tackle level 70 stuff if they chose to pay for it. Kind of like how you can skip sharandar and dread ring if you choose to do so. But they should not just make all the previous stuff harder all of a sudden. That seems like a terrible idea. Or a very good idea if you want money from your players. sigh

AFAIK they removed those limitations. Update: I just verified that you do not need any boons to be able to get into Icewind Dale.
Just did this with a mage wearing green and blue items, and rank 5 enchants. Guess what, instant death when trying to fight two polar bears.
The new BI gear is not required for IWD and will not help you in IWD anymore then the other lv 70 PVE/pvp gear they will release because the the BI resistance has been removed from the BI gear and BI damage is also removed from the game.
Bottom line, if you don't want to get the Black Ice Gear, you don't have to and it will not hurt you.

Or are hard-core PvP'ers. If I was at Vegas and was required to put my chips on something, that would be it. There is a reason why I'll never PvP, even with my 25k HR -- it has to do with certain attitudes and behavior. I don't want to play in a cutthroat, every-man-for-himself environment any more than I want to live in one.
I think the devs are being told the wrong information -- BiS PvP'ers are bored (and probably have a right to be bored, strictly speaking), but the devs are interpreting their need for more challenge as a need to drastically increase the difficulty of PvE content (*solo* PvE content).
We're hearing a lot about IWD and HE's, since that is part of the thread's title. Now, let me ask this: what will Cult Prison and Drake Pens be like? If they're hard today (and they *are*), will they be absolutely impossible to solo in mod 6? Inquiring minds want to know -- will grouping be *mandatory* for those two dailies?

I thought cult prison and drake pens was easy and I'm not decked out, my best is at 18.4k gs. All my toons, even ones at 12k were able to complete them on live without problems.
I did cult prison on preview on my trapper HR. You know what? I died 3 times, then I changed my toolkit and I beat it on the 4th try. It was a pain but it's possible and requires players to adapt to new strategies. I also did Briggin's Tomb on preview and it was no real sweat. I'm still wearing eternal gear, I've even started using green accessories because I couldn't find 70 gear. These zones got much more manageable once people ditch their level 60 gear. No one wants to wear greens and go from epics and legendaries to blues but we all have to swallow that pride if you want to succeed.
The new level 73 zones kicked it up a notch. It's going to be kill or be killed. Builds that kill slower are going to have a much more difficult time. More fine tuning is going to be required to find a happy medium for all classes.

If you're rocking all BiS gear and have 90K+ hp you can do it, if you take it slowly and carefully. Otherwise you will a) need a group and b) your group will all need to have excellent gear. Otherwise you're not even going to make it to the dungeon entrance.

at this point I am just crafting with alts because the grinding is so ridiculious. The game is just a neat dollhouse for my pnp characters now. either they will make the content less grindy and more engaging, or they will ramp it up more. my $ will either go here or other games based on the choice they make. plain and simple. I love FR so this is sort of a shame.
In order to accept this quest players must have two level 60 characters who have been to Caer-Konig. Once there, speak to Jarlaxle in Caer Konig to begin the journey. Completing the dangerous quest will reward you with brand new artifacts that will be specific to each class. Furthermore, once you have completed the quest with one class that specific artifact will be available to every character on your account via the Rewards Claims agent (It will not be restricted by class).
What this means is that if you complete the artifact quest with a Guardian Fighter, that specific artifact will be available to every character on your account so long as they are level 5. To unlock other artifacts from other classes, you will need to complete the quest with that class; however upon doing so, more artifacts will become available.

Sadly this is a byproduct of the new path Cryptic has chosen, which is to satisfy only the 1% of the game population in full orange and full rank 10s.
They are very easily bored, cause they have everything without having to work hard for it.
In my eyes trying to pleasure them is a bad strategy, cause if new Mod arrives they will have everything BiS in a day or two and they are bored again.
I find it hilarious, that the new artifact and other gears are already ready to throw into the bin.
Casual and even normal paced players (who are 99% of the players actually) feel like you do, in a tread wheel, you are like a poor rat as you stated, trying to cross the line, but no, when you reached it, the line has been moved further away.
Yep game should be more fun again as it was in it's first year, now it's like a job, if you miss a day or two, you will lose a tremendous amount.
Back to old school days, back to normal pace and normal game play, end the endless grind and make RP points available again.
I was actually suggesting months ago, that the constant thrive for newer artifact gears under current RP system will hurt many players. Once a normal player has his or her artifact, he or she can already throw it away, cause new is out and it is obsolete again.
Artifact gear introduces another huge problem, namely a huge power gap between players. That's why i say the first year was best, you could have epic gear, different enchants and basta, that was it, not perfect, but way better than now.
And i already fear, what future Mods will bring, artifact panties and all the silly stuff. I mean the player base will be very divided, not everybody will be able to keep up with 12 main and more optional orange slots (companions, mounts and so).
Building a Mod on only those BiS players and forcing all others to do the normal dailies together will be a pain in the finest, now multiply it with more toons, Jesus, what a bad idea, who invited this nonsense tsk tsk...
I was about to buy myself something for my upcoming birthday, but now i will keep my wallet shot until i can see, what disaster this will be, small or big.

man, matthias, you put some of many of our thoughts to words. i'm somewhat excited about some of the dungeon reworks to this mod, but the idea of going after more gear and starting with blue gear again, let alone having to refine new stuff when my old stuff wasn't even close to maxed out yet... it's daunting and makes me ready to say good bye for good.
mod 6 should have been new content in which we could use our great new stuff (with maybe some attainable new armor sets, since most of us are still running around in t2 armor). instead, it makes our great new stuff outdated and gives as a reward only new things to work towards that will probably be replaced too soon, so what's the point?
please, developers...please listen and read some of these posts. we like your game, but you are pushing us away.
Satisfaction in what? Reworked, mediocre content that gives lackluster rewards? They just dialed up the difficulty. It's not like we are getting some grand new experience.
Exactly!
If you guys take a look at the new gear for example, it is still like the ones we use, just a big boost applied to be able (as it seems not with much success tho) to handle the mobs on the recycled- reworked content.
Since Mod 3 we don't have a 100% unique Mod and since Mod 2 a rewarding one.

This.
Old gear with boosted stats/new skins. Old content with increased difficulty. Just harder-hitting mobs and more red circles/lines to avoid. Cryptic don't seem to have a clue how to create engaging, challenging content with interesting mechanics. All they know how to do is throw more mobs at you.

Yep, either back to old school or let's see some unique and brand new ideas, not just mobs on steroids. I can cry, if i just think about losing all my precious gear on all my toons for this. Feel kinda sad.

For some reason a big portion of the forum community demanded to have the old dungeons recycled. That really gets me as to why people want to do the same stuff over and over again that's been around for a few years.

Short answer is 'they are not'. But making the game harder thru artificial means is in itself an incentive to pay.

mod 6 should have been new content in which we could use our great new stuff (with maybe some attainable new armor sets, since most of us are still running around in t2 armor). instead, it makes our great new stuff outdated and gives as a reward only new things to work towards that will probably be replaced too soon, so what's the point?
please, developers...please listen and read some of these posts. we like your game, but you are pushing us away.

The human race is a herd. Here we are, unique, eternal aspects of consciousness with an infinity of potential, and we have allowed ourselves to become an unthinking, unquestioning blob of conformity and uniformity. A herd. Once we concede to the herd mentality, we can be controlled and directed by a tiny few. And we are.

The most important thing in life is to be yourself. Unless you can be Batman. Always be Batman.
Yep, either back to old school or let's see some unique and brand new ideas, not just mobs on steroids. I can cry, if i just think about losing all my precious gear on all my toons for this. Feel kinda sad.
Ideas shouldn't be really hard to find, DnD has one of the richest lore, game strategies in the entire sub-culture of role playing and fantasy worlds.

For some reason a big portion of the forum community demanded to have the old dungeons recycled. That really gets me as to why people want to do the same stuff over and over again that's been around for a few years.
