There should be a PvP achievement for Poking Stick kills, or a Poking Stick leaderboard.
Also, a spell-checker would have caught two of the three errors in the new Poking Stick's tooltip.
"an plain" -> "a plain" (would not have been caught)
"catapaulted" -> "catapulted"
"disasterous" -> "disastrous"
I think this will be a big outlet to grief players.
This is very confusing to me. They spend great lengths into making the icewind pass instance meaningless and grief-free as possible by making the rewards garbage, not being able to change instances and not having exclusive sought-after resources in the PVP area. In fact all you get from it is a title really. I do not agree with it, that design pretty much killed open world pvp but I understand that design since they want to protect casual players.
Now they introduce this humiliation stick that broadcasts grief over the whole network? What if I don't want to see any of those? The devs are going through the 2 ends of the spectrum with this one and I think they are seriously out of touch with the playerbase.
I'm not real sure that the choices of wording used in the blog entry were the best choices given the current climate of PVP. I get the humor, though....just not really keen on the thought of selling it as "a great way to humiliate your opponent"....

I killed a dude in IWD with my stick, but didn't get any announcement...he did fly up in the air and make a sound like a firework, pretty darn high, too. But I'm sad I didn't get a screenshot of my announcement.

It's almost like it should of just been called the Greifing Stick. I love that we got new stuff, but not sure this was the best idea to put out in the WB. But I did buy mine so will be greifing tonight.

It's not a poking stick. It's a humiliation stick. It's terrible.
I'm not real sure that the choices of wording used in the blog entry were the best choices given the current climate of PVP. I get the humor, though....just not really keen on the thought of selling it as "a great way to humiliate your opponent"....
I agree and was just arriving to say that. Kind of hypocritical to block any/all aggressive posts on the forums, but encourage players to "humiliate" others, it seems. Certainly contrary, and just one more reason I'll pass on PvP then.
Open pvp in IWP is going to be ultra amusing now , the level of abuse and arguing there was already hilarious but wait till one of the psychos gets killed two or three times in a row with this thing , ZONE chat will literally form a supernova .

After all the posts trying to make life easier for people that just started PvP and encourage them to continue and gear up...
... we get an official endorsement of humiliating adversaries in PvP, instead of acting in a civilized manner.
This is really sad to see. I am not sure they get it that losing and being also humiliated is the worst thing one can experience in a game.
Yeah, adding my voice to the pack of those who think this is a bad idea and will only further contribute to the mean-spiritedness of pvp.
It's bad enough getting incessantly roflstomped by op pvp guild teams, unable to score a single node or kill, and they just jump/dance on top of your corpse.
It never feels good when someone jumps on your head or humps your corpse with their mount.. but now they can kick you and let everyone know zone wide as you fly through the air with the greatest of ease =P

unfortunately, from what I've seen of PvP in several games. It should be very popular with the usual suspects.
<tactless remark removed>
if someone wants to try it. use it on a dragon and see if they fly into the air.

Reminds of the Doom days with god-powers and stuff. Even with a set trap between two of us, some guys just couldn't be beat and made sure we knew it. I like a balanced PvP OK enough, but not slaughters with humiliation-sticks.

I'm not even going to mention the irony of who you chose to quote . Still it's just a bit of harmless fun. If you're going to die, you're going to die regardless, so why not go out with style ^_^

I'd suggest correcting the grammar error and leaving the system wide announcement broken.
I don't need to hear about it anymore than I do which players got items from lockboxes.
Did you really think anyone could steal the power of the god of thieves?
Adding to the group vote that this was a bad idea. But, more than that, am I the only one that was more than a little peeved that this was supposed to be a reward for the ENTIRE community for our participation in the "Season of Dragons" and then it comes around that it is ONLY a reward to the portion of the community that PvPs? Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against pvpers. I pvp in many of the games I play in. Just not this one, for various reasons. It just annoys me to no end that every other "Season of Dragon" reward has been for everyone..... EXCEPT this one. Oh, and again, ENCOURAGING the community to humiliate one another is NEVER a good move on the part of the devs. Never.
Telling us about upcoming content updates, and getting those updates out the door BUG-FREE, is *AWESOME*!! Know what's even *MORE* awesome? Fixing game breaking bugs (and/or undocumented "features") that have been in EXISTING content for months/years!!! Guess which one makes me want to spend money on a game much more than the other? Hint: It's the "more awesome" one.
I'd rather be able to jab someone in PE with the stick since I don't have water balloons on all my toons. Make that happen and I'll buy one immediately.
I'm disappointed. When they said they'll be adding a poking stick, I was hoping for something more in the lines of the water balloons- a out of combat item that can be used to troll unsuspecting people in PE. Maybe have a nice tripping affect when used on someone.
(As in they trip, not you start hallucinating :P )

I'm inclined to agree. It's already sufficiently toxic, the levels of casual racism, homophobia and misogyny in your average PvP match are quite enough to leave most reasonable people wincing. A new way to "humiliate" opponents would seem to cater to an already over-served demographic.

might be beneficial to give murderer and victim a 60 second zone/tell mute after every stick encounter

If you know something to be broken, stop using it.
Otherwise, you've got no right to be speaking of 'balance.'

it has the same function of thrones
At least this gives you a way to put those kind of PvPers in their place. I think this is a great idea - and funny as hell!
I can't wait to get home today and search for some YouTube videos of toon fireworks in NW . . .
