Is there ever going to be a fix for this HE farming in Mod 3?

ayrouxayroux Member Posts: 4,271 Arc User
I farmed my bracers and weapon really easily on my GWF. Got 350 rep and was one of the first players in the game to have full BI gear (including weapons) when mod first hit. It wasnt THAT hard to get the gear with a few good days of farming HEs.

Now weeks later, Ive been trying to play on my GF gearing him up for module 4 and its incredibly hard to not only FIND but complete HEs and get decent rewards.

I log in, zone back and forth between the two zones until I see a major or Minor HE. I have probably easily done over 100 and the only epic was a Remo Fang. It seems I either find an HE that just started, slowly do it myself then are joined by 5-6 players by the end of it.

OR! I chance upon a Major HE like REMO with 20+ people there and walk away with greens...

The random encounter + random drop thing is really killing it for me... I dont know if either the timer just need to be bumped up ALOT or what, but it seems like anytime I do an HE I end up with alot of green HAMSTER, sometimes get some blue mats, and ONCE have gotten 1 epic item... That sells for 2k AD on the AH (remo fang).

Its getting a little ridiculous... and since module 4 gear sucks, it doesnt really leave me with alot of options...

i feel ya man also as a GF i've been doing these for a week straight i have gotten 2 epic ingredients in that whole time i have more than enough green components to make prolly 2 sets lol but i still have not gotten my mainhand or gloves.= most likely to never happen unless i do it for months and the RNG gods deem me worthy. the only other alternative is the profound preserver gear which also is pretty decent with the right mix of neck rings and belt along with artifacts. i would prefer BI but i dont think i can run anymore HE im well over 100 i just dont think it's worth the time investment.

I understand the grind effect, and how it shouldnt be easy. We already DO have to do dailies for 35 days, farm black ice AND continue to do that to empower it.

I just think the random events + random drops is really lame. Its not like a dungeon you can keep running over and over and know the drop should come... Its some arbitrary "guessing game" on "where will the next one be" and "I hope I got enough 'credit' to have a chance to get something decent"

This is not just some "QQ its too hard" its just flat out dumb... Id rather have the MH from from Kessels that you can farm alot with a decent chance or SOMETHING!

like i said i gave up on it sure it would be nice to have but with no guarenteed way of getting them like you pointed out these arnt dungeons im sure if i ran the same dungeon 100+id probably have multiples of the same item i was initally going for but thats not how this works so now after 100+ HE's and nothing to show for it except a half completed set it's not worth the effort and no one is going to be farming these come mod 4 so you best look elsewhere i guess. so i stuck with preserver guess im up the creek on BI gear as they say

Yup... I dont even want a guaranteed way, I just want something I can reliably farm... I mean even farming rep is just really frustrating. Log in for 5-10min do the quests and log off. wait 24 hours and repeat..

These HEs though, its just pointless. I cant control when they spawn, I cant "que" for them, I cant control if its a minor or major one, and I cant control how many people will compete for the CHANCE at getting drops...

Sometimes I start an HE by myself, and halfway through it, nobody has showed up so I quit... Sometimes I also start one and by the end there are 8+ people on a minor.... Well Im guessing its a pretty low chance epic drop / 8 people....

To be frank, ALL pieces of the base gear should have come from the skirmish, then people could be farming the skirmish over and over with a reliable method of farming...

How it is now, is just MADNESS!!!! I just did a black ice motherload HE, I literally was the only guy there and farmed 50% of the node myself. Literally 50% by myself with noone around. Then more ppl come, we finish it and I get greens....

personally i think all the gear should be purchasable from the vendor once mod 4 hits this would allow everyone to gear up easier
or have the main hand and glpves cost like 50 dwarf coins each or something at least that way it's guarenteed but you have to work for it

it took me 30 days of killing beholders to get one main hand. I was not fortunate to get one during the first few days before the drop rates were patched.

This is a GREAT suggestion... Im really getting frustrated man, I dont know how much more Ill keep farming. I told myself id do atleast 6 a day, I did 5 today and just dont want to anymore... Ive been doing this for 3 weeks now.... atleast 6 a day... somedays ill do more than 10.

30 days is an ungodly amount of time to farm for just 1 item

these items should be added to the shop where you buy the other pieces but for campaign currency I.E tears and coins at a good amount this would make gearing easier and you would still need to do the encounters to get the required black ice and crafting components.
lol i get why they patched it in the first few days but now that it's been months maybe they could reverse this because god 100+ is mind numbing and lol could you imagine doing this on 5 toons its horrendous.

I don't have a clue what I have to do to get the stinkin weapon or gloves to drop.

Honestly they should have just something like as you gain rep, every like 50 rep you get a quest from the merchant guy to complete an HE.

Like "Kill Beholder" and the reward is it unlocks an item for purchase in the BI shop. Once your at 100 rep, another HE: Kill Remo. And it unlocks another item.

    50 - Off Hand Quest
    100 - Helm Quest
    150 - Boots Quest
    200 - Bracers Quest
    250 - Chest Quest
    300 - weapon Quest

These could all be for various HEs, or multiple HEs.... Like at 250 the quest could be to complete 5 HEs... WHATEVER!

You still need to farm them for materials, and still would require alot of work to get, but it would be farm able and reliable.

Thank you so much for starting and maintaining this thread, ayroux. I am so sick of farming the HEs as well... I used to use all my spare time doing pvp, but now all spare time is spent waiting and grinding for something that seem so far away from me... It's getting extremely frustrating by the day, and I found myself go through the five stages of grief -_-

I would rather that the content is so hard that only a handful of people can clear it. I would rather that it takes a fixed amount of time to grind it, like when we unlock the boons or do CTA to gather the coins. But this... the drop rate now is completely incomprehensible and there is absolutely no way that we can work toward it.

Please do something about this. In addition to the suggestions by many others posted above, we can perhaps also have a coin system: minors drop 1 coin, majors drop 7 coins, epics drop 25 coins, then put the MH and arms up for 1200 coins each. It still a hell lot of grind but definitely doable.

BAsically everyone agrees. Look, I did this once on my GWF as well, I have the gear already and everything on him. It seems to me now people fall into two camps. Those that got the BI gear within the first week or so (when I did) and everyone else, its a pretty small population that have received their items after the fact, which is why there havnt been as many complaints probably. I have seen this complaint a few times and almsot posted it in the BUG report because I dont believe its WAI...

something needs to change or else players will skip out all together on even trying for this gear because of the droprates no new players will ever be able to get it especially with less and less players going to IWD sort of how Dread ring has become. all items should be accesible with a little work the coin idea is the best way i can think of also the other coin idea on completeing encounters.

haveing to do the 30 inital days to get to 300 rep what good is being able to craft these items if you can never complete the set, i have more than enough black ice to complete the set and recharge each piece several times just from trying to get these items and doing the dailies its preposterous to expect players to grind out the campaign in a month and then spend 3-4 months trying to get 2 pieces of gear just to complete a set.

where as if everything was available in the shop but for black ice and and a normal amount encounter coins or tears or dwarf gold then people would gladly work and farm these encounters.

as it is now with the lowered drop rate and even lowered chance of enchants no one bothers with these encounters because the time/investment is 1000% not worth it.

I have a full set of BI gear with my CW. And it wasn't too hard to get. I decided to branch out and try to make a useful TR for PvE. The conundrum is that I have lousy gear and am playing a bad PvE class so getting gear is hard. Icewind Dale, I figured, would give me a great opportunity to get my hands on decent gear. That way I could improve my character and get him to the point where I could be useful in dungeons and wouldn't need to be carried through T2's over and over just to get to the point of being useful. Boy was that a mistake. If there's one thing more pointless than trying to earn a main hand and and gloves with a TR it's trying to earn them with a bad TR. I gave up on that long ago. I'd have a better chance of winning a Domination match when my four teammates go AFK and I'm facing 5 roar-spamming GWF's.

LOL I feel your pain man. As a GWF, I can just run into an HE and throw down a massive IBS crit and get tons of "contribution" even when the boss is lower HP GWFs deal more damage.

On my GF, its SO much harder because all my AOE encounter give me agro, and since block sucks on live, I cant tank it. So I kite around and spam fighter recovery with aoes that heal me for 30k+ every time. Its all I can do to stay alive... Its rather pathetic TBH...

But needless to say its REALLY hard to feel like I can "contribute" very much right now. I dont quite know how the contribution system works, or if you get above X level you have a chance for the epics, or if you have to be the #1 to get a chance....

Its all really unknown and arbitrary and really frustrating... Id rather have a system that you get 1 "coin" each time you do an HE and have each weapon cost 100 coins... Atleast this way I know im getting something at the end of 100 HEs. Currently, there is no hope.

Each time I see a major HE, I know there is no luck because there will be 20+ people doing it...

I gave up on BI gear for my main (HR) because the bracers wouldn't drop. My HR is now wearing Profound Archer. I will be getting PvP or t2 dungeon gear for my other characters as well. I have found IWD to be a colossal time sink and disappointment and I'm not expecting much better from the mod4 content based on what I'm seeing on PTS.
@Venture-1 @Venture from City of Heroes if you remember that far back. Yes, *that* Venture. Yes, I probably trashed your MA arc. For me it was Tuesday.

I like the idea of being able to purchase it from the vendor after an "unlock" of some kind. Give us a goal, not a punishment for sticking around.

My HR has completed almost 80 epic HEs and my GF has just over 50 epic HEs - no main or gauntlet and very few of any other purple items. I only had my HR in IWD before the first Mod3 patch and I remember getting several Hammerstone drops (none of which was for HR) but post-patch, I'm lucky if I get a blue item; most of them are green profession materials (if at all) and raw BI.

I have never gotten a main/off hand drop from ANY dungeon so perhaps a rework of the entire drop rate system needs to happen. I had to resort to buying some of my stuff after about 45 MC and 40 VT runs.

If the goal of the devs is to get new people in the door and keep veteran players interested, I would have to say that neither goal is being met successfully. I already have a job that pays; I don't want one that doesn't "pay".

I like the variety in IWD but if the drop rate isn't fixed or the mechanics of getting the items gets changed, I doubt if I will visit it once Mod 4 comes out.
    I aim to misbehave

Its not just the GF class, all classes are finding it ridiculous hard since that patch, the lowered drop rate wasnt justified, I too got one MH on gwf and one bracers on CW(BEFORE that patch).. dozens of epic hes since then on 4 difference classes and I got one ELK tribe talisman on my DC..

The playerbase has all but demanded these be moved to a store based purchase of some sort or moved to kessels or anything besides this, they could leave IT, if they wanted to , as its not a viable way to get them for any class atm. If you just luck out and get one.. good for you.

I dont see how my current ALT im running through the HR is ever going to get any, as basically there is no reason for most poeple to do it anymore since the refinement point nerf.

Sadly, even for those classes that this armour was viable, they wont be able to experience it.

GO try to even hunt for these.. the dwindling population of IWD has made it all but impossible to even do that, I spent a hour flipping maps on my HR , found 1 beholder, ran to it , with 20 people there and got a green.. ya..

I like a token based system over RNG all day any day. Make it incredibly grindy, I don't care. At least I know that I will eventually get what I want.

    It's gotten worse progressively.

Mod1 only the Off-Hand and Profession was RNG
Mod2 added some parts of the new set
Mod3 added more limitations on top of RNG (HE rotation and that point system)

With the new dungeon keys you are able to get your M1/M2 gear relatively easy while still being forced into heavy grinding and repetition. I think that's a good tradeoff.

The sad thing is it isn't IF you can get other tasty treats while you do it. At least in a dungeon you have multiple roll opportunities and a chest at the end. These HEs are just pathetic and depressing in that your chance for any satisfaction is probably less than 5%. On top of the fact that you are just running around waiting for them to happen. I'm done.

That's another good point. The armor sets in MC/VT are not the top loot and there are weapon sets, crafting, Off-Hands, pets as consolation price. HEs offer nothing on top of the gloves/main. Yes, crafting stuff, but it's dirt cheap anyway. Nobody grinds HEs because you are missing that one last resource, you just buy it.

    Yeah...

Honestly id rather have ALL the pieces of gear purchased via "tokens" you get from the HEs - almost like the profound gear is purchased.

So I would suggest if they are moving this way, to make black ice gear purchased via these tokens that have a HIIGH drop chance (maybe not guaranteed, but very high - for the minors) and a guarantee drop for a token on the majors would be fair.

Keep the BlackIce requirement to them as well. So each piece requires blackice+X number of HE tokens.

This would be fair, still take alot of grinding to get, and be a good system for players who want to farm the gear. Again, much like profound gear.

    To add my voice....

Took my GF 180 HE (non minor HE, add over 100 minor HEs to the mix but I am sure they don't drop the bracers) to finally get my bracers.

I had high hopes for the patch that started counting damage taken toward reward. I got my main hand first beholder fight after that patch. Proceeded to poke eyes out with sharp sticks trying to get bracers :(

this needs to change i see no reason of doing these encounters at all i would much rather them be put into kessels or the store at least i know with some grind i will eventually get them.

doing HE's is like hopeing to win the lottery it's a terrible time sink and will never keep players interested due to an unreachable goal.

One more point, even when I had my full set of Black Ice weapons and armor I would still run around doing HE's with my CW because it was a reasonable way to farm enchantments. Many times I was able to jump in and turn a failing HE around because there weren't enough people around initially to complete it. Now that the enchantment drop rate has been nerfed I have no reason to go back at all. Anyone trying to earn their black ice gear can do so without my help. My efforts in HE's are no longer rewarded so I won't bother.
