What is the problem with Arc? I don't use it, I had installed during beta.

If you don't plan on using Arc ever then somewhere down the line you will be out of luck. Their long term plan with Arc is to use it as a launcher for all their games instead of each one having their own. Details here

I think as long as I don't uninstall Neverwinter i should be good.
but I have all my other PWE games that I play in my Steam Library.

Short term fix only. They've stated that eventually they intend to drop all other launchers and require ARC.
I have the original client still from when the game was first released and don't have ARC , are you saying that sooner or later I will be forced to get ARC if I want to keep playing?

Yes. According to the ARC faq. Right now all ARC does is open the launcher for the game. Its a launcher for the launcher, lol. They stated in the faq that they intend to change that. Get rid of all their games individual launchers and just use ARC to open them.
*The thing is we don't know if that point is months away or years. Or if something could happen between now and then to change their minds.*

That's not what we're saying. It's what the developers are implying.

I have been running ARC since it was first talked about here. I have had no issues with it and it barely uses any resources. I even use it to post on the forums here.

Oh wow , I doubt a lot of people will be happy about that , I know I'm not , I hate being forced to download unnecessary stuff onto my computer , I just hope they leave it until mid 2014 by which time I'll be in ESO lol

Eh, great for you then. For me it lags when I use it to browse the forums. And the shortcut key to open it bugs out my chat. Making every item I click afterwards link to the ingame chat. (Well it did until I changed the keybind.) And because its not part of a specific game I've yet to see any place we are suppose to leave feedback or bug info about it.
Maybe should give it a shot again. I am using it right now using the overlay. And there is probably a spot over on PWE's forums for ARC if you are having a issue. Before I would alt tab out to use ARC to post but just tried the overlay tonight and it is actually working.

Doubtful, I tried it 3 hours ago. That's when it was lagging. And I already looked at the PWE site and couldn't find a place. It may be there, but I couldn't find it.
*I check out ARC from time to time to see if they added anything interesting to it. In the past it worked fine for me. Well besides the shortcut thing. But changing the key fixed that. The lag while browsing the forums I only noticed after loading it up today.*
Yep, still bad. Using it now. Slows down while scrolling. And is very jumpy. Add in the fact that it takes away functionality. No built in spellcheck, no opening stuff in new tabs or windows. I see no reason to use this when I could alt-tab out to my prefered browser instead.
Hopefully they'll give us a reason to -want- to use this before they require it.
Are you sure about not being able to open new tabs. I just opened a new tab and I am on here plus facebook. They did say it is a still a work in progress.

Not exactly what I meant. With any other browser you can rightclick a post and choose open it in a new tab. That isn't an option for me with ARC. Right clicking links in ARC doesn't give me any menu options at all. If it does for you then its another bug I would need to report, if I could figure out where.
Right click doesn't work but if you left click a link it opens in a new tab. I left clicked the link in your sig and it opened in a new tab.
Odd, doesn't do that for me. Changes the current page to the one I click.
*Doublechecked: Well the sig link works like that. But not the other post links. Not very useful if you can't control when it opens up in a new tab and when it doesn't.*
*Ok, I have a feeling we could go round and round about this forever. So I'm going to try to wrap up my end of this:
I see no benefit to using it. It has less features than my usual browser. Ones that I am use to using. And its still lagging for me. Nothing is going to change my mind until they improve their software. It just does nothing useful for me. I'll continue to check on it from time to time... maybe one day they'll suprise me and give me a reason to use it.*
I really don't understand why you want steam. Which needing you have of having steam?
I'll never install steam and in the past i already avoid to buy and play games because they run only on steam.

. . . . . I'd love it if NWO went to Steam also, just like most all other PWE games have. STO and CO are both on Steam, which are Cryptic developed games. Hopefully one day, Neverwinter will also be available on Steam for those who like to use Steam.
ARC is bad enough. If this game were ever Steam-only, I would have never even touched it with a bargepole.
No one likes bloat.
I'm not a fan of Steam, just as I'm not a fan of Origin either. Had to have the latter for Mass Effect 3 and the former for 'new version' Company of Heroes. If the presence of Steam makes the difference between good performance or bad, then your PC is not bleeding or cutting edge. Or close. I am using an old Core 2 Duo E8500 based machine, HD 5770 graphics card, medium sized monitor and this NW as the previously mentioned games run fine.
If you object to those platforms on some sort of principle, fine. But technically I think the term "bloat" is misused here....
Steam only, bad. Steam enabled for those who like it, good for them.

. . . . . I just re-installed ARC after re-reading this news article. I was a bit disappointed that it sounds like Neverwinter won't make it to Steam and that STO and CO might become unavailable on Steam, as I use Steam for many games already. However, after installing ARC, when I went and ran each game through ARC, it automatically detected my current installations of NWO, STO, CO, and FW and didn't make me re-install them. What's even cooler is three of those are installed through Steam and it allows me to use them without running Steam.
. . . . . The current ARC seems to be just what they say, light-weight and just a delivery platform. I see no CPU usage from it at all and in fact it uses less resources than Steam and I never noticed Steam being intensive either. So, all-in-all, while I am disappointed NWO won't go to Steam, I am okay with using ARC. I only hope they put Characters, Achievements and Guilds into the ARC profile and do something with them like they do with other PWE games. Like how Achievements award points in which you can then spend those points on in-game perks and items.

Until the Cryptic launcher no longer works because Arc does the patching for PWE games.
Nope. Don't think so. If you read through it, they plan on dropping the other game launchers in favor of using only ARC.
What we don't know is how long between now and then. Maybe a few months or it might get delayed for years. Who knows.
^^same.

not even gonna touch it with a bargepole ~_~
Somebody posted a link to the client without ARC a day or two back , unless it got deleted for some reason I'm guessing it won't be difficult to find.
Most of us do not have ARC, thankfully!
