I think there are a couple things that could easily fix this problem:
1) REPLACEMENTS!
People disconnect. It's kinda not fair if you come back to not only zero rewards but also a 10 minute penalty just cause your internet had a short drop in service. People quit cause their opponents weren't the guild they were trying to fight against. That would really discourage any type of guild vs guild coordination if people had to wait 10 minutes between failed attempts at finding their opponents.
So, if people quit, why don't we fill those spots with other players? Many matches are simply about composition. Your setup is simply just fodder for their setup, cause of certain class imbalances. If one team is losing badly and has one or two people quit, give them a chance to be replaced with a possibly better player and/or class for the situation. I really don't see why this wasn't implemented from the start. There are no loot ninjas in pvp (and that's a poor excuse for pve as well).
2) End matches early if there aren't enough players
Who here has been in a premade or good pug and had to endure multiple games in a row in which 2 or 3 people on the other team quit? Some would say that's a good problem to have, but it's actually kinda frustrating and boring. We just have to stand there wasting time waiting for the match to end. I often prefer to pug instead of asking some of my guild members to come, cause at least then I'm less likely to deal with that, lol.
If 2 people on either team quit and no replacements can be found within a few minutes, end the match. There's no reason to drag it out, ESPECIALLY if they're still gonna not implement a replacement system.
P.S. Replacements will only work if you fix the "you're not a member of a party, leaving the instance in 5 sec" bug that happens whenever someone reconnects or que puts them in a match that's already started.
Interesting about "fresh 60's", I just got my gf to 60 tonight and the little bit of epic gear I had bought in the ah, barely brought me to 9500 gs. None the less, I jump right into pvp once I level and put the new gear on. Level 60 pvp is far more fast paced and intense. I love it. First match a come from behind win, second match win ...and its almost time to turn in for the night. Both matches I came in second on my team. No teams in either match had any bots or trash talkers. Maybe I just got lucky with a couple good teams. Quitters and bots are problems I am sure, but maybe not as extreme as some people make them out to be.
About a ranking system- yesyesyes.
I would also really be behind a ladder and tourneys for premades, complete with an investment from the toons. An initial 20k per toon/100k per team AD buy in. A six game, 32 team, bracketed tourney, the sixth game being the "championship". NWO would donate some t-1 and t-2 gear for this. Semi final winners each get a piece of t1 gear. Final winners each get a piece of t2 gear. The players on the team that wins the championship each get 640,000 AD (from the buy-in), a piece of t-2 gear, an iron crown transmute item, and a special title only available to pvp champions, which of course would be "PvP Champion". There would be a new tourney every month where either new champion would be crowned or the old champion would retain their titles. The crown transmute would only last for as long as a players team remained champions.
