I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I'm unfamiliar with this version of Baldur's Gate that's implemented a mechanic to penalize death in such a way. In the game I know and love, if the player designated Bhaalspawn dies, it's effectively game over, since the story dictates you can't be raised (plot holes aside). Thus, you reload from whenever you last saved, potentially losing progress, but nothing else.
And you would be correct,..... in the single player version of the game. In the multiplayer online version of the same exact game death penalty is 10% gold loss, 10% xp loss. Now this is standard in most (not all) D&D video games. The reason its standard is the point though. Dying, losing nothing, is a ridiculous approach to any form of D&D. With absolutely nothing to lose of any consequence.... what then is really the point? The constant fight to survive (without dying) creates so much in terms of teamwork, thinking and all around higher quality gameplay..
Who here isnt for higher quality??

Imagine if this setting was in Dark Sun.. *grinz* my personal favorite campaign setting. Just surviving, not prospering, or even progressing, Just survival in that setting is incredibly difficult. Thats why its fun though. A land were a steel knife is worth 100 slaves, and water is more valuable then gold.. great setting.
Okay, so I've managed to get through the Tower District and Spellplague portions relatively unscathed. At level 22 now and into the Blackdagger section. I was able to successfully queue for the Orc Assualt skirmish and the Cloak Tower dungeon. Did pretty well. Achieved Immovable Object and Paingiver in both and got Executioner in Cloak Tower (just so you folks know I wasn't dogging it and hiding behind my group :P).
So, I've got my dog, Brutus, and I'm ready to beat on sme gnolls and bandits. The only part of this section that has given me potential trouble in the past is the Hidden Mine with Crag Foultooth. For some reason, he's extrememly effective at breaking down a GF's guard. If that happens at the wrong time and position (i.e. surrounded by his mobs), the health bar disappears fast. We'll see how it goes....
PS. My favorite DnD setting was always Ravenloft. I still have my original I6 Castle Ravenloft module tucked away. Best...module....ever.

Be forewarned that there currently appear to be some serious problems with crowd-control immunities not working, not just your block but other class skills as well.

Ive enjoyed Ravenloft as well. Lord Soth one of my favs.
Don't queue for dungeon delves after level 25-ish. The Randomness of PUGs will end up getting you killed more than once on the journey to 60.
Wise words, and ones I should have heeded. Last night I got my character to level 28 and was cruising through Neverdeath with no trouble at all. I decided to knock out the Storm the Keep skirmish and that went well. Got another Immovable Object. That success in mind, I queued for Cragmire Crypts.
Disaster. Absolute disaster. I'm not going to cast aspersions as I always allow for the fact that I may have screwed up smoewhere. But I wll say I burned 22 pots in the fight before I went down (started the boss fight with 40, died with 18 left). The party wipes and the DC quits. So the four of us remianing give it another shot, as in spite of my character death I didn't want to leave the others high and dry. But it wasn't meant to be. We wiped again. I was down to 5 pots and the GWF left after that so there was no point in carrying on.
Being the obsessive person I am, I'm not giving up. Half Elven GF Shane Morningstar (on the Mindflayer server) is the latest victi....I mean, iteration. But lesson learned. No more dungeon pugs after Cloak Tower.
So, after a little over a week that included a two day hiatus for work reasons, I have levelled my latest incarnation to 35 and made it through Helm's Hold. I did Cloak Tower but haven't PUGed the other dungeons. I have competed in the skirmishes, however. One of the things I've concentrated on this time around is my regen and life steal stats. Even at such a low level, it does seem to have made a difference through Neverdeath and Helm's Hold.
I have a question, if someone is kind enough to answer it. After Helm's Hold, Knox offers two quests, Ebon Downs and Company of Wolves (which, I believe is another zone). Should one be completed before the other, or does the order in which you do them not really matter? Aslo, if I do one, will I still be able to do the other if I don't accept both immediately? I've been into Ebon Downs twice (died there both times), so anything beyond is new territory for me. Any advice is most appreciated.
Knox just offers quests based on your level. At some levels you can end up qualifying for more then one area. This does not mean both missions are equal. It generally means you are a bit high for one area and a bit low for the other, but still within the level range.
Be sure to check your mission journal and check the level range of the area. Considering you are trying to avoid needless death it would be best to focus on the lower level area. In this case Ebon Downs (level 35-37) should be done before Vellosk (company of wolves, Level 38-41)
I don't recommend skipping Vellosk. You will want to be a bit overleveled before you hit the next zone, Pirates Skyhold.
