Why is my bf so weak?

missaniteemissanitee Member Posts: 38
edited September 2013 in The Moonstone Mask (PC)
I have a Drow lvl 30 TR and my BF has a Human lvl 60 TR in comparing the 2 the drow is far more stronger then the human TR at lvl 30. My bf asked me what seems to be the problem. I have played his char and he is right he is weak and cant stand up to anything without hitting potion after potion. Ive included a pic, maybe yall can help tell us what needs to be fixed on him. If you need another pic of something else let me know and ill upload it. Thank you for your help

This is not quite clear, but they are pretty similar. Playstyle and the way you built him is most likely the problem. When levelling a rogue, my personnal suggestion is to run with cloacking stuff as much as you can, because as levels goes, monsters start to hit hard on your tiny pool of HP

The difference in you and your bf would most likely be the way you placed your feat points. My TR was great up until 60 because I feated for PVE, but against other 60s I can't cause any damage. The trick is to spec for damage if you want to cause pain or stealth if you prefer to attack from the shadows. His "weak" TR might be a good build for team play though.

nope...he is not good in PvP or in Pve. In PvP he lasts around 5 seconds and PvE he can survive but barely and thats hitting pots constantly. So no 1 sees anything wrong with his build?

You may get more detailed responses to your question if you post more detailed information. You should post the normal and heroic feats each of you have. It would also be interesting to see the detailed combat stats located beneath the gear score for the two of you. Then posters may be able to tell you specifically why there is such a disparity between the two characters.

If he's getting worked like that. I think he just cant play all that well. Everything looks good enough.

He simply must not be dodging like he should or keeping good perception.

Also monsters are tougher at 60. Than they are when leveling.

He's geared better than both my rogues with a more offensive focus than mine for that matter.

The only other thing I can think of, is that there has been some talk about people's gearscore being oddly low than it should be. Though I thought that was a visual bug. That is the only thing I can come to terms with.

Its one of those two possibilities. He's just not that great at playing a rogue, or its that gearscore bug. cant say unless you reveal the gearscore.

There are all kinds of little things, like choosing to put a point each in wisdom and charisma instead of dexterity, and using First Strike as a passive power (great for that one hit, but does nothing for you the rest of the time). He has Blood Bath slotted, but only put two points in it. Not using Lurker's Assault (which is still a very good daily power). He likely has very slow Action Point gain, from what I can see.

I wouldn't say it's a bad build if played well (without seeing his feats), but the way he's set up appears to be mostly for very aggressive high-damage single strikes. He's got little by way of defenses, control, damage mitigation... which means that in a PvE group, he should technically be able to do the TR's job quite well, but he may not be very survivable on his own. And the need to chug potions when everything is hammering on you alone... well that's self-explanatory. In PvP, a rogue can't just walk up to other players and expect them to stand there and take it. He's going to get torn apart unless he's really good at unloading those skills on the unsuspecting and then getting the heck out before the retribution rains down. Kill it before it kills you. Again, he's got no defensive capabilities. Theoretically good offense. Poor survivability.

You'd probably have gotten more feedback sticking this in the TR class subforum.

Why did he waste a ability point on WIS at lvl 10? I see he has a respec available , maybe check out the Rogue subforum and look at possible builds , also maybe a good idea to invest in a full armor set to get a 4 piece bonus and also getting 2 epic daggers and a epic shirt wouldn't hurt , this is all I can say without seeing his stat tables , oh and also show us his feats , feats can make a huge difference .

Thank you every 1 for taking the time to help me. Ive posted everything you requested. But I do want to answer what some people are saying and that is "maybe my bf just does not no how to play a TR" The problem there is I play his TR too and Ive noticed how weak he is. Even killing a red cap is a big job and Ive been killed by them unless I hit potion after potion. Some 1 else said I am due for a respect...is it free? and where do I go for the respect as putting a point in Wisdom was a mistake.

I like how you scrolled down so we couldn't see his gear score. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but methinks this is some elaborate meta troll.

I wouldn't go that far. I don't see anything glaringly wrong. But i'm hardly an expert. Id suggest, as others have, to try to get more directed and knowledgeable advice from the Rogue class forums. The pro's there know all there is to know about the subject. They might be more helpful.

Absolutely not. theres nothing really wrong with him at all. He's actually in pretty good shape. I really dont see what the problem is. Its pretty much like I said before, he's probably just generally not that good at playing a rogue or something.

His gearscore is a whole 1k higher than mine on one rogue, and almost 1.5k or so higher than my other.

    His offensive stuff is good.

The only conclusion is that he's just not good at playing. There could be small adjustments, but those adjustments are so meager that its not going to be that much of a difference. He's in good shape stat and equipment wise. Doesnt seem to be any bug affecting his equipment/gear score. So that only leaves the conclusion that he's just not that good at playing rogue.

If he's having that much trouble staying alive, I would advise him switching to a more defensive way of playing than offensive.

    This is my observations:

He appears to have made a few common mistakes.
    1. All over the map with the powers: It is best to only level the ones you are going to use instead of putting points in almost every one. The powers are most powerful when fully level 3.

    2. All over the map with attributes: The three main ones for a TRs are Dex, Strength, and Charisma.

    3. Mismatched gear: Gear sets require at least 2 to get the first bonus stats.

    4. Low quality gear: Blues are not great for a level 60 rogue and its best to work toward full epic gear. Battlefield scavenger's armor is beginner lvl 60 gear because there are much better pieces. The Ancient rings are a start.

    5. Feats: They actually seem ok.

    Suggestions:

    1. Respec and adapt one of the main builds to fit his play style. I personally adapted Banelorne's Stealth-Based Executioner TR Build to work with my crit/power gear and it works good. The build and what your bf currently has is very similar.
    http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?295232-Banelorne-s-Stealth-Based-Executioner-TR-Build

    2. Run dungeons to get better gear or buy it from the AH.

    3. Practice at playing his rogue. Ignorant players make the false claim that rogues are easy mode and take no skill. Rogues just take a different skill set like every class and a player needs to develop their skills.

    4. Augment companion for PVE: These can be a life saver and help tremendously. I currently have one setup to provide extra regen, armor pen, crit, and power.

Hopefully this helps and it is just what I learned playing my 13k GS lvl 60 TR. They are common simple mistakes I made myself that can seriously hurt the survivability of the character.

    Good Luck!

It's not that bad, but the base damage increase from epic daggers alone would make him stronger. And for the feats I suggest http://nwcalc.com/tr?b=cn4:2hwcg:5m9s,1xi3i3i:60000:6u000:b55z1&h=1

Everything about his build is horrible. Both gear and feats/paragon feats are done haphazardly. It's like he had a brain <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> while he built his character. The conclusion? Your bf isn't very smart.

The constructive version: get him to respec with a standard but good executioner build. He's all over the place everywhere (powers, feats, ability scores, all were done in a very bad way). Then once this is done, grind some gauntlgrym for some real gear (the weapons and the full epic set). That should do it, but if he's just a bad/stupid player in general, it won't save him.

Thank you all for your imput and a special thank you to Kingculex for giving me the outline that was needed and a place to start.

Since I am only lvl 30 What is an epic dagger? the purple ones and they have higher damage then the ones he has?

Yes, any purple items fall into the category EPIC. I think the best ones in the game currently are the Ancient Spymaster set (Castle Never). Note: The ones crafted from the acquiring items form Castle Malabog are a little of an upgrade I think, not verified read in the forums, but not worth the trouble.

The Gear: Remember to have at least 2 pieces per set on the left side of your character sheet to unlock the first set bonus. I use a mix of the master assassin set and the sinister shade set. That is 450 bonus to power and 450 bonus to crit. I use a mix because the full set bonuses for these sets only last 6 seconds each and in my opinion it is not worth it compared to the constant +450 set bonus you get by having two pieces of gear from the other set. The gauntlgrym set is pretty good if your bf wants to rely on stealth. Your bf has to pick which set will best fit his play style because each set has different set bonuses and full set bonuses. I think any that gives a +450 set bonus is currently considered to be the highest level gear.

The "Banelorne's Stealth-Based Executioner TR Build" has a better explanation of the attributes, feats, and powers.

You are welcome and I hope it helps.

I'd just like to note that your drow being level 30 and your BF's character being level 60 would account for a lot of the different feel in playing them. It's not entirely that his character is weak, but that everything he encounters hits a lot harder than it does for you.

I'm not going to pretend I've read the whole thread, but just wanted to add my little input. I'm a big fan of Marvel Heroes, and I ran into a similar issue there. I met some guy who were playing the same character as me, but even though I was a few levels higher than him, he had a higher Defense-rating than me. Even so, he complained about dying all the time, and I hardly get hurt at all. Don't underestimate player-skill. I'm not saying I'm a good player or anything, but I do know a thing or two about staying alive, and building the character the way I want to play. That's very important. It doesn't matter how cookie-cutter your build is, if it doesn't suit your playstyle. Cookie-cutter builds only go for the min/max thing. They don't care at all about different playstyles or having fun.

I don't remember if you've mentioned how long you've been playing. If your character existed prior to the most recent big rebalancing, you'll have the option to respec once for free. There's a button on your powers tab that will be clickable if you have a respec available. It will reset everything: paragon path, powers, feats, and stats from levelling.

If you are not having any trouble playing your character the way it is, I suggest hanging on to your respec until the next time major class changes are in the works that warrant handing out another free one, as you can't have more than one freebie on a character. That's the time to use it even if you only need to tweak minor things.

New paragon paths will almost certainly entail a respec for everyone who didn't have a choice but to pick the one that was available.

On the bottom left of the second picture in your original post on the first page you can see where it says 'Respec powers' ? that is lit up so I assume that is the free respec all players got when the module 1 patch came out , when you have looked through the rogue subforums and settled on a build you like click the respec button and you will be able to reallocate all your stats , skills and feats to match the build that you like the look of the most.

Before you spend that respec. Be sure to test it out first on the preview shard. You can try out all the content and builds you like without any cost, loss, or expense.
