the Neverwinter Devs are screwed no matter what they do.
I know its just sad. I mean i know where your coming from where was the testing of this event. Its so frustrating so now people should just expect nothing but filth from these Dev's. Its like nothing they ever do gets done right. I see what your saying.
I was like stupid me kind of excited whats this event thing Woohooo something cool something new. Then i get into it. Just a huge mass of toons spamming AOE and then the hp of the whatever they were sooo low i couldnt even tell what i was attacking? Seriously what are the monsters in that event i dont know what the hell they even were. I killed 20 of them i know that from the acheivment thing after you kill 20 somethings.
And its also no surprise the devs havnt responded to this thread yet either. Oh sure they listen to what people say about the game.
Well this afternoons events seem to have been a bit more fun. Less people and less lag. Was actually not to bad. I lagged a tiny bit at the end but nothing to really rant and rave about..
Hopefully they keep it up with the minor tweaks and fixes. Am glad they are tweaking it as the hours pass at least. last night it was unplayable. Today it is passable. Hopefully tomorrow it is even better.
Mobs still need some more hp though.
I think the devs are trying. If you played the event last night and today, you can notice a huge difference.
Yeah, I don't really care if I get runestones - if I was really getting them that is. It SAYS you're getting them, but in reality there's nothing in your bag - lol.
Worst event ever... its like the devs had zero experience doing games.
Even if you happen to be lucky enough to have a CW or DC with some decent AoE, you dont kill anything, since it gets just instagibbed. You have to actually start casting your spell before the mobs spawn and hope you timed it correctly, because if you hit the button when they spawn, your spell hits half a second after everything is already dead.
From the storytelling point of view its also quite amazing... is this all Valindra could manage?
Lets invade USA guys... Cool! What do we have? Well, we have hundred thousand soldiers that should do it. Cool! And what equipment they got? Well, theyre armed with sticks and stones mostly, some of them have helmets made out of old pots. Weve got a few BB guns as well, one car thats not running, but can be pushed around and we have one paddle-boat to attack from the sea.
Scary isnt it?
Its literally the greatest fail invasion in the history of universe.
It doesnt take an Einstein to figure out that 100 players divided into 5 spawnpoints equals carnage. Even if you have the most recent computer and graphics, the game goes flatline from all the AoE spamming. Youre lucky to have more than one frame per second and quite often the game crashes completely. If you suffer through all of that, then you can enjoy the event by witnessing some mobs spawn only to die 0,1 seconds later and occasionally collect one or two rank 1-2 enchantment drops.
And yet the solution would be so simple... Actually there could be more solutions:
1) make more instances of Protectors Enclave with lower max player limit
2) make more spawnpoints across the city
3) make mobs have higher HP
4) make mobs spawn in a wider area, not just one spot where all the DC can place their Blazing Chains trap thingy
Solution number 3 is a bit etchy though, cos it would prevent lower level character from doing much, so i would probably opt for number 1.
To sum it up... game is few days before release and theres still tons of stuff thats not finished... Buggy quests, buggy achievements, buggy pve content, nowhere near balanced pvp content, exploits everywhere, economy system thats quite weird and trading system that allows scamming.... And to top it all off, we got this amazing "event" which turned out to be the biggest disappointment in my personal gaming history ( and Ive played a lot of ****ty games ).
Well done, well done. If this is the way this game is headed, I would probably recommend everyone to go back to good old World of Warcraft... its not perfect, but at least Blizzard has a clue about what theyre doing.
actually, my computer has been doing just fine in the events, and my computer is minimum spec, playing on low graphics.
I got a slight stutter when the portals close, but nothing as bad as most of the people in this thread are reporting. certainly no freezes, though I do see when other people freeze. they kinda stick in place as I run past them.
I know it can be hard to get just one blow to a zombie before it gets obliterated by 5 wizards at the same time, but you just have to focus on the REAL targets: the Hulks (they are the only ones that drop bags of bones, sometimes, and the rest of the trash enchants, and i think that you can get a hit at the big guys before they die if you follow the time pattern in which they spawn, maybe 1 out of 3 or 4 waves <- focus on that people). By the way I'm a GWF lvl 38.
I skipped it..and Im glad I did..they supposedly optimized in the last patch and the rubber banding is still horrendous..I expect its even worse with this "farce event"
Ya i forgot about that also. My computer didn't crash it bogged down a hell of a lot and i am running crossfire 6950 2gb cards with 16gb ram and i7 cpu. What the hell is happening wasn't this tested? Oh ya i forgot this is cryptic no it wasn't tested. My toon even ended up on some arch after the computer got back to normal speed. I mean like what the hell. For **** sakes man get it together people what ever happened to testing something first.
Isn't this now not a beta or whatever the Soft launch was. So is this the hard launch now.
In complete agreement. The event was clever thinking and much appreciated in the way of adding an entertaining element to the game. However, this event is highly in favor of AOE attacks of which the TR has 3 and none of them are as fast or devastating as other class aoes. It would be better to throw a single target high hp boss with lower than normal damage output so people can earn rewards based on the amount of damage they do to that single target.
The problem is. ME, just as a gamer. Would have thought.
"You know...the AoE classes will just stand on the portals and AoE the mobs before anyone really has a chance to hit them for enough to get loot. And this will cause a lot of lag."
So it begs the question. Why didn't the Devs think this through.
It's easy to ask questions and complain.
How would YOU, as a gamer, design it instead?
Keep in mind, due to the weakness of the monsters, that it seemed designed so that virtually all players could participate, regardless of level. Also, given that the spawns were placed out in the open, the event seems to have been designed to let any number of players, regardless of class, join in battles at their whim.
So, given what appear to have been their goals, how could you do it better, so that AoE wouldn't do during the event what it does in every other combat situation.
Personally? I would have had more variety of mobs. Lots of weak ones so every level could participate, but lots of stronger ones too so that they do not die with one or two AOE moves to give melee players an even chance. I also would have them walking throughout the city coming up from everywhere instead of in just a few locations where too many players all congregate fighting for scraps.

Add an event to the cycle where you get put into a 5 man group, skirmish style, on the tutorial bridge fighting invading undead.
No new assests to make, no laggy aoe fest, etc.
Hell make it timed and put bonus waves in if you clear it fast enough.
Use the <removed exploit lead-in> to interact with the auction vendor.
so yes lets give rogue massive aoe, better cc, self heal, perma stealth, invincible, damage reflect, block with weapon, all the buffs, and shielding
coz obviously rogue is suppose to do everything beside been the highest dps class already, screw all the QQers, they know nothing

Humm what would i have done as a game designer. Well lets see test it out first. Maybe testing the events first before hand would of been on my top list. After testing would of seen humm mobs are too weak. Arnt spaced out enough spawning in small tight groups is a stupid idea in the first place. Use the whole city would of been better with more spawn points. Have stronger elites so the melee toons have something to take care of. I would of added at least some kind of end boss also.
Having everyone at one spawn point is stupid and lazy. The devs knew this would of happened why they did it like this is really lame and lazy.

Take the event from PE and put it the leveling zones instead. Put one event in a low level zone for the low level players. Put a few more in the medium level zones for the medium level players, etc. Have like 6 zones host the event, one zone for each level bracket.
Spawn a level/zone appropriate elite mob with each pack so it doesnt die too fast but mobs dieing too fast wouldnt be the huge problem it is now if the event was split up as stated above because you would have the player base split up by levels/zones.
I understand why they choose PE for the event, an attack on the main city is cool and all, but they had to have known it would cause massive lag.

Calm down and point to where the rogue touched you.
Play the event before you make up your mind, you'll soon find out calling the current difficulty of the monsters in the event more your cup of tea is a pretty grave insult, no offense.
Well, I have played the event, I couldn't really tell you what the difficulty level of the mobs were because, well, I never, really, got to tangle with any of them.
As soon as the mobs began to spawn, the world lit up with AoEs and they either died outright or were so close to death that a hit or two finished them off.
While I did manage to kill a few, I don't know if it was my Uber Skills (level 29 TR here) that let me beat them down. Or just the fact they'd been soften up the aforementioned AoEs.
PS: To say "no offense" and the proceed to insult pretty much everyone tends to lead to people taking offense. Even if you do add a smiley to it.
Edit: This event is also the only time I've had my PC freeze. Funny thing is, I wasn't even facing the portals when they closed . . .

Stop talking out of your ***. Rogues are not the highest dps class in the game, not even close. They may have the highest single target damage per attack in the game. They do nothing unless they have single targets with high HP to attack and even then the more targets there are the less damage they contribute.

This is cryptic your talking about come on get with the times. They dont think about issues like that they dont even test stuff like this either internally. Yes an assault on the city is nice and everything but get real as it is right now sucks and lazy and pretty much pointless. I do like your idea on the spawns or attacks in zone areas but then your going to get idiots that are lvl 60 just going to lower lvl zones to lay waist in that zone. BUt alas you could also say if idiots that are over certain lvl in the lower lvl zones dont get anything at all. Still think the zone spawn thing is a better event.

We were asked what would we, the player, wouuld do in Cryptics shoes. That was my answer.
And youre always going to have the idiots that just wanna watch the world burn in any MMO. No way around that.

Yes and thats why i liked your idea the lvl zone events. And your thought they should of known about the lag issue also.
I have from the beginning wanted this game to succeed and still want it to. When the dev's plop out stuff like this it shows how bad of a job they continue to do. This event thing just wasnt thought out at all. Also it doesnt even feel like they tested it at all really. This is sad. Its a few days to full launch. With all the exploits, bugs and issues known, paragon classes still not active or more then likely not tested. I have been in lots of beta tests, this will be the first one that never fixes the KNOWN issues before full launch. Yes i been in full launches and yes some issues or alot more pop up but never ever have they not fixed the KNOWN issues first.

This is the worst and most bland event i have ever been a participant of im sad to say. Its a mash ur face on keyboard event, nothing epic about it what so ever. 5 min waves? come on really? with 25 min downtime you cant really do jack in between them so but that is what im coming to expect from game. I love this IP so much and they keep trashn it and dumbing it down. hmm k somthing constructive lol Instead of portals opening every 30 min for 5min, make them open once per hour for 10 min. At least you have time to do somthing in between. Increase the HP of all that lame sad trash and have a boss spawn at the end of the waves and make that sucker 20 ft tall and when the portal closes dont have the mobs left dissapear half way through combat and screw us out of the final chance for drops. No wonder this game is becoming a ghost town. I want to play this game but the people designing this weak faceroll hold ur hand <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> is getting harder to tolerate.............SIGH........
It is seriously pissing me off that they aren't addressing this. One or 2 classes are dominating the event while everyone else looks on getting screwed up the *** and Cryptic won't even say anything.

I know of another game that hasn't been fixed before official launch. It's called Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Memory Leaks, bugged GTN, bugged dungeons, bugged raids and list goes on.
But this game of course excels SWTOR in that regard.
Just had an update in another F2P game. And guess what? Bugs and lag in a small update.
It's just life, I guess.

I was getting Dark Enchantments yesterday when the events started.
the Bags of Bones have been dropping off mobs for me.

I guess it's finally rewarding playing healer.
Guild Wars 2 wasn't much better at release and it's events were a built in features.
Thanks for trying though Cryptic, keep it up and things will sort out.
