As a certified fanboy (at least that is what I'm constantly called ) I can say that is BS, I know for a fact that the finger has hovered over the ban button for me more than once, so I stopped calling those I disagreed with dodo birds and walking abortions, keep in mind I have been a paid mod for a MMO's when Dinosaurs walked the earth. Mods are human and yeah they have opinions and they always aren't nice Just ask my pal tweety at undead labs. ;)

You can do that really fast and trust me some of the bridge dwellers would level fifty characters just to act out on the forums.

Well, it is quite easy for a fanboy like you to post, troll and curse with immunity. Your nose is so far up the mods butts that if one of them were to actually talk, your head would pop out. Not to mention that you should have been banned LONG ago, just looking at your past posts. Many people were banned for FAR LESS, yet a brown nosed fanboy like you is still around? Wow, extremely biased forums.

BTW, do you pay them to allow you to keep posting with immunity? Or is it that your nose is that good?

Wouldn't it be really sad if that email address was signed up for a whole bunch of HAMSTER subscriptions ;)
Tragic, also if it was added to NAMBLA mailing list?

So we can quickly stop spammers here as well.

Is it ironic that the very next post is just the type of spam mentioned? In fact twice so far in this thread.

    more like moronic.

anyway there's very easy ways to block spam without the tragedy(??) of mistakenly banning a few trolls/flamers (as if that would be bad).

say 5 reports = you can't post for 1 hour
10 reports = post is removed and banned for 24 hrs
    more than 10 = " " " and IP ban for 72 hrs

    etc.

As we can see by this thread, banning doesn't stop them.
Even by IP it could be bypassed.

sure but it would be something, it's a lot harder to change your IP block than create a new email/forum account.
    it's better than doing nothing.

There are really only a couple of solutions, it's not a new problem. "Paying customers only" works. "Can't post on a new account for X days" works. Both end up making a bunch of innocent people feel like second-class citizens though.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev

I agree I say the hackers in our community trace his IP so we can find out who this ******* is and go to his house and kill him therefor ending his incessant spamming

They could have access to a couple of forums and once they've paid or been there long enough, then they can have full access.

It's all moot, I doubt these changes will be implemented.

You probably just made him soil his pants with glee. Seriously. Stop feeding the troll. User CP -> Edit Ignore List and done.

As the community grows, we will see more moderators. Hopefully soon!

I can say without flinching that the ones we have dont get paid a dime but work very, very hard to keep this a happy place.

Forums spam software could potentially be modified to do some "moderating" but you tend to see it used on blogs much more then you do on forums...

Humans do this job the best, there's just too much grey area, too much interaction necessary which software could not handle.

That is easily the worst idea that I have seen in a while, sorry. The whiteknighter fanboys with the huge, ugly, pretentious graphical sigs already flock to try and drown out all dissent, if they could act in concert to exploit the forums and stop anyone else posting, then it would soon be like talking to one of the overly-chatty NPCs on a loop ingame :)

Reporting works fine. It may take a bit longer than insta-ban, but the mods get the job done.

Yep. Current report feature works just fine. The mods here are pretty good at trying to stay on top of things.

and? so what if that did happen? I'd rather read 1000 overly-optimistic "fanboy" posts than one of the ridiculous over the top, self-entitled hateful rants (like the people who think they have a basis for a lawsuit... lol that is not how the law works kids).

report bugs, make suggestions, sure. cry and complain about every little tiny thing you don't like - eff off, be happy to see those numbnuts banned.
